Energon Grid

Airdate: 7/1/04

This episode starts out great. Megatron’s sitting on his throne, gritting his teeth and grunting, while huge, turd-shaped chunks of metal start coming out of Unicron’s corpse. It’s some unsubtle, likely inadvertent fecal humor. Megatron’s plan is to hurtle these artificial comets towards Earth and destroy the planet before the Autobots can get the energon grid up and running. The discussion between Megatron and Demolishor concerning the plan has a pretty interesting bit of dialogue concerning humans’ sparks.

Carlos detects the incoming comets from his station orbiting Mars and warns the Autobots. Dr. Jones assures everyone that the energon grid will be functional long before the comets reach the Earth. The grid isn’t functional and they eventually pinpoint the problem to one of the energon towers but can’t figure out what’s wrong with it, so they send Kicker and Ironhide in to fiddle with things they probably shouldn’t even be fiddling with.

Kicker and Ironhide find two repainted Terrorcons inside the tower and the remains of some Omnicons. The comets get closer to Earth and the Decepticons start attacking the Autobots when Rodimus and hordes of repainted Terrorcons arrive and destroy one of the comets. As the other two are heading towards Earth, Kicker and Ironhide get the grid operational by taming the two Terrorcons with energon. After the battle, many of the repainted Terrorcons board a Cybertronian spaceship and leave. Kicker suspects the ship belongs to Rodimus, but this is strange because these Terrorcons are clearly still being used by Alpha-Q for recon and he can communicate through them, so why are they apparently allied with an ancient Cybertronian hero? Sets up the next episode: Rodimus Friend or Foe?
