MEGATRON

Personal Profile:  Megatron is considered by many to be the greatest leader the Decepticons ever had.  He transforms into an Earth hand gun.  In the cartoon he could fit in the hands of other Decepticons and in the comics he could fit in the hands of humans.  In both the cartoon and comics his robot mode was the size of a large Decepticon.  Megatron's arch nemesis is Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots.

Episodes appeared in:All pre movie episodes except God Gambit and The Gambler.  Transformers the Movie, *Five Faces of Darkness part 4 and *The Return of Optimus Prime. *Note- These episodes only contained flashbacks of Megatron.

Cartoon Bio:It is uncertain weather Megatron was made before or after the Great War started.  He was around during the Golden Age of Cybertron but it is also believed that he was built by the Decepticons to lead them in the War.  It is possible that there were two separate Autobot/Decepticon wars.  Megatron could have been built during the first and then in between the first and second wars Cybertron could have had its golden age.  Then Megatron may have been responsible for restarting it the second. The war lasted millions of years.  Megatron had the Decepticons follow Optimus Prime to Earth.  When the Ark crashed on Earth he was knocked off-line with the other Decepticons and Autobots and remained inside the Ark until he was awakened by Skywarp in 1984.  His Decepticons were active once again and he decided that he would use Earth's natural resources to fuel the Decepticon Empire.  Optimus Prime and the Autobots were also awakened and they vowed to stop Megatron and the Decepticons. Megatron built a Space Bridge to Cybertron and used it to transport energon cubes to Cybertron.  Cybertron was being held by the Decepticons led by Shockwave.  Megatron was openly challenged by Starscream for leadership of the Decepticons, but Megatron defeated Starscream easily.  Megatron didn't kill Starscream though, because he needed troops and Starscream was one of his best. He claimed to have created the Constructicons, but the origin of the Constructicons is not sure.  They were around in the days before the war so it's possible that Megatron just built new bodies for them or something.  The Constructicons were not Decepticons until Megatron used the robo-smasher to turn them into Decepticons. Megatron was responsible for the birth of the Stunticons when he went to Cybertron and used Vector Sigma to give them life.  He also took the key to Vector Sigma which turned all organic matter into metal.  His plans were thwarted by Omega Supreme and Superion though. Soon later Starscream had tried to make another attempt to attack Megatron.  Megatron defeated Starscream again and banished him to a deserted island.  Starscream reappeared with the Combaticons and tried to take Megatron's command.  The Combaticons formed Bruticus and he was strong enough to defeat Megatron, Devestator and the Decepticons.  Bruticus was defeated by Menasor though.  Megatron banished Starscream and the Combaticons, but they later reappeared and almost destroyed the Earth.  Megatron had to use the help of Optimus Prime and the Autobots to stop them.  He then reprogrammed Bruticus to serve him. Megatron conquered all of Cybertron over the next 20 years, but he controlled no land on Earth.  The Autobots had moon bases and planned to retake Cybertron from there.  Megatron struck first though, when he attacked an Autobot shuttle heading for Earth and killed the four Autobots who were in the shuttle.  Starscream recommended that they attack the moon bases, but Megatron wanted to destroy Autobot City and "vanquish the Autobots forever." The Decepticons attacked Autobot City and the battle resulted in the deaths of many Autobots and Decepticons alike.  Megatron had almost completely wiped out the Autobots when Optimus Prime, the Dinobots and several other Autobots showed up.  Optimus Prime plowed through the Decepticon ranks with his eyes set on Megatron.  The two confronted each other and began the greatest one on one fight in Transformer history. In the end, Megatron had been thrown to the ground and Prime had his riffle aimed at his head.  Megatron saw a gun in the rubble and tried to stall Prime to get to it.  Just before he reached for it, the Autobot Hot Rod jumped on his back.  He used the Autobot as a shield and picked up the gun.  He then fired four shots into an already open wound in Prime's stomach.  He threw Hot Rod to the side and aimed the gun at Prime's head.  Prime, with his last ounce of strength, punched Megatron off the side of the complex and Megatron fell two stories to the ground beneath. Starscream ordered a Decepticon retreat, kicking Megatron with the intentions of leaving him at Autobot City.  Soundwave, Megatron's most loyal soldier, helped Megatron to Astrotrain, which was the ship the Decepticons were using to escape.  On the ship Astrotrain said that he was carrying too much weight.  Bonecrusher suggested that they throw the injured Decepticons into space and Starscream was more than happy to oblige.  Starscream lifted Megatron to the door and threw him out into the abyss of outer space.Megatron floated in space, near death, with Thundercracker, Skywarp and some Insecticon clones.  In space he met up with Unicron, the planet eating monster.  Megatron reluctantly made a deal with him that said he would destroy the Autobot Matrix of Leadership if Unicron gave him a new body.  Not only did Unicron change Megatron's body, he changed his personality too.  Megatron was now known as Galvatron.  At first Galvatron acted like Megatron, but when Unicron was destroyed and Galvatron was thrown into a lava pit on Thrawl, all traces of the once great Decepticon leader were gone.

Comic Biography:Megatron was the founder of the Deceptions in the comics.  He led the Decepticons against the Autobots in an all out war.  The Autobots were forced to search for energy and the Decepticons followed them.  Just like the cartoon series, the Decepticons and Autobots laid dormant in the Ark for four million years after it crashed.  Megatron and the Decepticons were once again awakened first and they tried to plunder Earth for it's energy. Megatron used Sparkplug Witwicky to make fuel for the Decepticons.  When the Decepticons attacked the Autobots at the Ark, they were almost victorious, but then Sparkplug's fuel kicked in.  It turns out Sparkplug poisoned the fuel he gave to the Decepticons.  The Decepticons fell to the ground and the Autobots were victorious until Shockwave came to the Ark and attacked them. Megatron awoke from his fuel poisoning to find out that Shockwave had captured all the Autobots and claimed leadership of the Decepticons.  Megatron battled Shockwave when he was still in a weakened condition and Shockwave was able to defeat him.  Megatron made a deal with the Autobot Ratchet, who said he would destroy Shockwave.  Megatron tried to double-cross Ratchet but Ratchet defeated Megatron with the help of the Dinobots. Megatron was found in gun mode by a human gangster.  Megatron revealed himself to the human but Megatron had no recollection of who he was.  The human used Megatron to become rich and famous by robbing banks.  Megatron finally regained his memory and returned to the Decepticons. When Megatron returned, Shockwave knew that he was back at full strength and relinquished command to Megatron.  Megatron led the Decepticons and created the Stunticons and Combaticons.  He also used the space bridge to bring Thrust, Dirge, Ramjet and the Insecticons to Earth.  His Decepticons suffered a loss when Omega Supreme captured Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Rumble, Frenzy and Buzzsaw. He was with the Combaticons when he confronted Optimus Prime and the Protectobots.  They were about to fight when a human suggested they find in a computer game.  The loser of the game would have it's leader be destroyed.  The two factions agreed and they entered the game.  The Protectobots outsmarted the Combaticons by caring for the beings around them and the Combaticons were defeated.  They merged to form Defensor and attacked Megatron.  Megatron managed to defeat Defensor and was now alone with Optimus Prime.  Optimus Prime defeated Megatron, but he killed some of the life around him to do it.  When the game was over, Optimus Prime destroyed himself because he cheated. Megatron became very paranoid after this.  He kept seeing Optimus around every corner and began to go crazy.  Shockwave saw this a decided to use it to retake leadership of the Decepticons.  He got the Predacons to attack Megatron.  Megatron was able to defend himself and when the Predacons merged to form Predaking, Megatron was even able to defeat him.  After the fight with the Predacons, Megatron returned to the Decepticons.  He went over the space bridge and fired his fusion cannon.  He was believed to be dead after that. In truth Megatron had been sent to the "ghetto" of cybertron.  Slowly he regained enough strength and power to get revenge.  He planned to retake leadership of the Decepticons who were being led by Scorponok at the time.  He kidnapped Ratchet and forced him to build Starscream back into a Pretender form.  When Megatron left Ratchet alone, Ratchet used three vacant pretender shells to give life back to Grimlock, Jazz and Bumblebee.  The Classic Pretenders and Ratchet attacked Megatron and foiled his plans.  Megatron and Ratchet were believed to be killed in the battle. Megatron reappeared later, but this time he was merged with Ratchet into one body.  He controlled the body half of the time and they were found by Optimus Prime and Kup on the Ark.  Kup wanted them to be destroyed because of the danger Megatron was, but Prime didn't want to destroy Ratchet.  They were put off-line and stored in the Ark. After the battle with Unicron, Megatron had awaken and was now separated from Ratchet.  Megatron confronted Galvatron who came from a different universe.  The two began to fight and soon Ratchet, Starscream and Shockwave joined the battle.  The Ark crashed into the Earth somewhere in upper Canada.  Megatron and Starscream were knocked off-line.  Ratchet and Shockwave were killed.  Galvatron remained online through the crash but was destroyed by Fortress Maximus. Megatron appeared in the GIJoe comics and he made a deal with Cobra to get a new body.  After he got his new body he brought Starscream back to life.  He then destroyed Bludgeon to take over as leader of the Decepticons.  Optimus Prime appeared on Earth and Megatron defeated him and took the Matrix from him.  Grimlock and the Autobots showed up before Megatron could kill Prime. When Megatron learned of Jhiaxus and the Generation 2 Decepticons, he attacked them.  Jhiaxus' army slaughtered Megatron's and Megatron was almost killed himself.  After the humiliating defeat, Megatron came to the realization that the only way to defeat the Gen 2 'Cons was to make a truce with Optimus Prime and the Autobots.  The two worked together against Jhiaxus' Decepticons.  Starscream betrayed Megatron and told Jhiaxus where they were hiding out. Megatron and Prime went into outer space as the battled between the Gen 1 and the Gen 2 transformers started.  Starscream found the Matrix and used it to make him super powerful.  Megatron and Prime went up against Starscream but Starscream was too powerful.  When the Swarm attacked, Starscream realized that Prime needed the Matrix to win.  After the danger was over, Megatron and Prime shook hands as a symbol of the new unified Transformers.
