 Very nice. I'm not a fan of their using currently released molds, but If they're all as well-done as this one, the only thing standing in my way would be the price.

Cool!

A botcon close enough for me to actually go and exclusives I may actually want... hmm... if I believed in astrology, I'd say the heavens are up to something...

Words can not express how much I hate these toys. LOL. This is Beast Wars for god's sake...not Cybertron Repaint Wars. That doesn't even remotely look like Rattrap. At least Primal looks somewhat like Primal--one that is running for US President. LOL

wow, would rather have straight up boring beastwars repaints?

I really like the newer takes on older figures. The slightly modified molds are always sweet too.

Wow. Complete turnaround from lasst year's offerings, and the mold looks 100% better as OP than it does as Crumplezone. If the other three are as good, they've got a sale. Uh, does anyone know if the figures come with the convention comic if you don't attend the convention?

EDIT: Damn, if I knew they'd look this good, I'd have signed up for membership in order to save some bills. Hrmmm . . . Maybe I can sign up now, and buy a set after the convention . . .

Because if the convention set is this good, then the membership becomes worth it.

they could of gone with a different boby for primal. crumplezone with a primal head just looks freaky. but the colors they use for rattrap are great.

I dunno. Crumplezone's ape-like proportions make it a very good fit for Scrape Ape. The dual cannons, while a lot bigger, also remind me of the ones that he had in bot mode.

I think they're going to stick with vehicle alt-modes because they're supposed to be the forms that they had before the Beast Wars. From what I hear, they are doing the original crew of the axalon and Dinobot (who was a pred at the time).

My Guesses...

OP-Crumple Zone (duh)

Rattrap- ransack (duh)

Cheetor- Override (man, that would be sweet)

Rhinox- Either Red Alert or Landmine

Dinobot- Mudflap (he is a traitor aswell, and I just want to see a repaint of him)

I love the concepts here. Both molds work perfect for their respective character. There was even talk on the different kitbashing/repaint boards I visit about how much Ransack's toy would work as Rattrap, and I completely agree. Unfortunately, I think he'd work better in his Transmetal colors than the first-year ones.

Man these Look Great. Much Better then Last years. im really glad i got my TFCC memebership now. but, One thing About Rhinox i think he was supposed to be a Tank or something like that. becuase i remember reading when they where talking about the comic that they was going to go with the set that they where gonna be called different names and Rhinox's was something like Tankox or something but then the writers decided to use the old names. anyone else remember what im talking about?

I'd rather have new molds--but yeah yeah, I know it ain't gonna happen.

Now if were dark yellow with spots, I could let it pass.

I guess I'm just not sure what all of the fuss is about convention exclusives. They just tend to be molds that have been repainted a hundred times, and generally not even the good molds.

That being said, I did like the big one they did last year...blanking on the name, but how many hundred repaints did we honestly need of the Arcee mold? And at that price point?

If the exclusives were more in line with store prices, I wouldn't be so fussed, but if you're going to charge premium prices, I'd rather have a premium--or new--mold.

Despite my devil may care attitude regarding the toys, I am slightly jubilant that my dream of IDW doing a comic based between G1 & Beast Wars is going to happen, apparently. Now if only we could get a monthly comic on this time period and a cartoon (made by the people that did Beast Wars), I'd be overjoyed.

I think Hasbro fitted the colours with the best mould they could. Although I thought Clocker could have been Rattrap. Why is the Maximal symbol red? I saw that on the Japanese Beast Wars toys and on 10th anniversary toys. It looks better than green anyway.

You know, I never noticed it before, but Armada Hoist's head is an absolute dead-ringer for Dinobot. They picked that one well.

2006-06-02, 09:27 PM
Note how he has Hoist's head and Longrack's arm. Basically, he's an amalgamation of two different versions of the mold.

Clay
2006-06-02, 09:51 PM
Yeah, I noticed it was the original head used with body of the Cybertron remold.

So, Dinobot's an amalgamation and Primal is a remold all his own. Are there any differences with Rattrap besides the planet key? I don't own a Ransack and can't easily tell.

starscreamjericho
2006-06-02, 10:07 PM
i don't agree with the mold for dinobot at all. i never did like the concept of for crane tpye transformers to have the crane lift as an arm. did like with longarm now i'm hating the fact they gave to dinobot.
the colors work great. but overall they could of chose a better mold. in my opinon a disgrace for beast wars greatest hero dinobot.

RID Scourge
2006-06-02, 11:08 PM
I'm a little torn. I don't see him as a builder, but he looks good. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a disgrace, per se. I'd think it more fitting for rhinox and perhaps try to stick the Hoist head on another figure. I could almost see him as another bike, just because of the whole Chopperface nickname, and motorbikes have that warrior's feel. Not sure who they'd use, though. All in all, I still like it as a figure.

don't get me wrong. i just feel they did a poor choice when came to dinobot. i agree he'll look better as a bike maybe even a hellicoper he could use the blades as as his spinning weapon like he used his tail for.

Not to fond of the choice of mold for Dinobot. Love the colours and the head (looks very much like his), but just can't picture him as a labourer. I kno they probably had limited choices, but still.

2006-06-03, 02:53 PM
The concept of this Dinobot is a given. I think it may have been better if they'd cloned the left arm and made a right one out of it. Perhaps attach a large dozer shovel across his front. (detacheable as a shield or some crap)

On second thought, that would make me wonder why he lost the ability to fly.

All in all, the mold has the look, but not the character. Still, like I said, a good figure. I'm sure they'll figure out a way to reconcile it in the comic. Perhaps his honor comes from work experience, where he witnessed graft in a maximal construction site, leading him to forsake his work and to become a predacon. Perhaps, he witnessed the creation of Protoform X . . .

Hmmm . . . not bad. Was kinda hoping that they'd stay away from any more basics, just because of the price that they're asking (and because the only one that was originally a basic was Rattrap) . . .

Was also hoping they'd make him from Hot Shot, given the obvious character parallels.

I guess that leaves Rhinox, right? Maybe they'll do something hella cool, like make him from cybertron defense scattorshot. I can imagine him as heavy artillery.

Well, Rhinox and Depth Charge, as far as Maximals go. The others were 'newborn' on Earth during the Beast Wars. (Tigatron, Airazor, Tigerhawk, Silverbolt, and Blackarachnia.)

They may also be doing the Preds, considering the number of weeks out we are.

I think they announced that they were only doing the original crew of the axalon and dinbot to make up the maximals from the pilot.

Like Denyer said, they may do the preds some other year. That would be cool, and if I do end up joining the club and getting this set (which looks more and more likely, given that ordering the set as a member would automatically set me ahead with membership), I would definitely pick up the pred set as well.

Ooh! I was actually debating picking up Landmine, but now, I won't have to.

Does anyone know how long you have to join the club and still be elligible for the discount, offered for the Botcon set? I definitely want this set, and the fan club discount makes the fan club membership worth it for this year.

This year's set looks to be a homerun. Good job, FP!

What's the deal with the set, anyway? Do you have to be a member of the club to by them, or do you just have to show up?

Lexington is only about a three hour drive from here, so if all I have to do to get a set is to go to the `con for a day and put down some cash, I'd be interested.

Er, a more specific question :): will you be able to buy the set if you just purchase a general admission ticket at the convention? The botcon website isn't very clear about that.

If you come to the convention and get the full package, you get a set, but if you're a member, you get a discount of $50 (the membership fee is $40 per year).

I believe you could. However, the set is the same price as the full convention package, so if you get the general admission ticket and picking up the set, you're going to end up spending a lot more than if you just get the full convention package.

EDIT: Another thing worth noting is that if you get the full package and show up, I believe you also get a few extra figures for free. I'm not sure if that carries over to the general admission.

Predacons. There shouldn't be any Decepticons this time out. :)

Off subject, but could the pre-beast wars rattrap also be mistaken for wheelie? for some reason that mold gives off that vibe lol

Wow! I really need to join the club, so I can save on the convention set, and Waspy (*is hoping they put him up for sale on the site after the con, so he doesn't have to bend over on ebay*).

Looks a bit too bulky to be Megatron. In the pilot episode, you could see his outline, and he was really scrawny, like Megabolt minus the legs and back pack. Oh well, it will probably turn out nice in the end.

these Botcon BW things have little to do with the canon BW story
remember, there were no cyberkeys in the G1-BW storyline

No wonder Megs wanted to take over Cybertron and the Universe in general, he was molded into pasty pale purple. Sorry, that had to be said, or else the Universe would be doomed w/o a joke on the color scheme.:D I do love the use of this mold though. It suits him awesomely still :D

Anyone else think that Cybertron Soundwave looks just like Depthcharge? Seriously... just take off the tape deck thing (or think of a way for his shark drone thing to go in there) and give him a new head. that would be so perfect

Oh, and I would have preferred Cybertron Evac for Dinobot

RID Scourge

You know, that's quite brilliant. Yeah, if they were to make Depth Charge, that'd be the way to do it.

Yeah, Evac would've been nice, but then he'd be too big.

Man, they look really cool. I actually do hope I can get a whole set of 'em, rather than only the ones that I really like. I'd feel like something's missing, otherwise. About the only one I wouldn't miss from the set would be Cheetor.

Darclipto

Yeah, Evac would've been nice, but then he'd be too big.

Actually, he is a Voyager class, and he was the biggest Maximal, even bigger than Primal, so it would work.

RID Scourge
2006-08-04, 01:30 PM
True, but then he'd be too big for the convention set. I'm under the impression that they were using certain molds because they had a limit to the size class, based on what they could afford, without jacking up the price on the set.

Great idea about using Evac as Dinobot the Hoist mold has been used too often. Depthcharge would be a great one to do but I think they would have to do it in a box set Depth Charge Vs Rampage any idea which mold they could use as Rampage im pretty stumped on that one.

I've thought hard on this one as well... I'm sort of stumped as well. He would have to be big and imposing, but not too big or else he will tower over Depthcharge. I think Cybertron Defense Scattershot would work.

2006-08-10, 01:40 AM
I think Cybertron Jetfire is a more appropriate candidate for Depth Charge.
You don't even have to mod the head.

As for Rampage, I think the new Cybertron Unicron (hovertank) would be a nice fit.

RID Scourge
2006-08-10, 03:54 AM
I'm actually thinking tank as well, but I wish they had a figure that looked like the Cobra Rage in vehicle mode. That thing would make a perfect Rampage.

Perhaps Dark Scorponok with the tail replaced by a removable gun, similar to the missile launcher. Then, he could hold it in robot mode.
