Prologue - Five Weeks Ago - Hoover Dam: Archives

"And?" Keller hunched over Whitmann's ancient chair, squinting to decipher the cryptic green numbers on the computer monitor.

"It's over," Glen squeaked in awe. "We won! We won!"

The dank room erupted in cheers. Simmons delivered a macho high-five that Keller awkwardly answered, and Maggie leaned down to hug her friend while he fought to be heard reading the rest.

"Four confirmed robot kills!" Glen shouted. "The survivors have stopped fighting!"

"What about the others?" Simmons gesticulated, struggling to describe what he meant. "The cars, the Camaro and its friends."

Glen typed furiously, and after a moment, the reply came. "They disappeared into traffic," he reported nervously. "They said they turned back into cars and drove off. The F-22s couldn't track them."

Keller furrowed his brow, straightening up and pointing at the monitor. "You tell them to get the National Guard in there and start pulling people out. Tell them to bring cranes to pick up the aliens. I want them off American soil pronto."

"Sir." The room jumped at the voice. Tom Banachek glanced down at Frenzy's twitching corpse while stepping over it before looking to Keller again. "We'd be missing a tremendous opportunity if we did that. Now that we've lost NBE-1 and the Cube, technological progress could stall. The economy could collapse. The Japanese will dominate American markets. We need those NBEs for our research. If we bring the dead NBEs back here, without needing to keep them frozen and with their military disguises, our research would go twice as fast as it did before."

Keller regarded Banachek with suspicion. "It would be a war," he declared in his press conference voice. "Every nation in the world will want that technology. The Chinese, the Russians, everybody will be foaming at the mouth..."

Banachek smirked under his moustache. "Why should they know? Take the most-fried NBE and some helicopter parts to the disposal site, film it, get it on every news station in the world. People speculated we faked the moon landing," he paused knowingly, "but no one could deny seeing that."

Keller stared gravely at Banachek for a moment. He snapped his fingers at Whitmann. "Do it."

Glen and Maggie glanced at each other.

Now

Weather reports around the globe have been reporting unusually high activity of meteor showers in recent weeks. Transformers of both factions from across the galaxy have converged on the American Southwest and Optimus Prime's signal. The new Transformers created on Earth by the Allspark have assimilated into the two groups.

Successful in his secret plan to destroy Megatron and his loyalists, Starscream leads the Decepticons to set up shop at an Air Force proving ground just outside Hurricane, Utah. While they lick their wounds, Decepticon technicians are working in a nearby abandoned coal mine to refine coal into Cybertronic fuel. Meanwhile, Starscream has dispatched spies to infiltrate the government and track down the fallen Decepticons.

The Autobots have taken refuge in Mission City, Arizona. The struggle to remain out of sight is continual. By night, the Autobots strip junkyard cars of parts for Ratchet's shop at an abandoned steel mill. A squad led by new first lieutenant Skydive has infiltrated Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, to monitor the humans' activity at Hoover Dam. Bumblebee lives with Sam Witwicky in his hometown of Tranquility, California, with Ridge and Avalanche assigned as backup.

After the dissolution of Sector 7, Reggie Simmons was sent home with a tremendous government salary for the service of keeping quiet about what he knows. Defense Secretary Keller has hired Tom Banachek to direct NBE research at the Hoover Dam. Glen Whitmann and Maggie Madsen serve as two of his top researchers, while Captain Lennox and his team oversee security at the dam.

Hoover Dam: NBE-23 Chamber

A man who's seen everything rarely wears a novel expression. Tom Banachek stared out over the gargantuan frame of the NBE that was known to the Decepticons as Blackout. The dead optics stared at him hauntingly, but Banachek was unfazed. It was just a machine, he'd reminded himself a hundred times. A dead machine. Banachek checked his watch.

"Where's that cannon system?" he shouted over the monotonous hum of machinery.

"We're having trouble triggering the transformation mechanisms, sir," a technician shouted back. "I think some of the ports got severed in the battle."

Banachek nodded patiently. Nothing a technician could do about that, was there? Banachek would have to call down Jeff Connor, his top electrical engineer. He patted his back pocket ineffectually, then tried the front, then his jacket.

"Has anybody seen my cell phone?"

The technicians were busy at work again. Banachek shrugged and turned to head back to his office. He always kept his cell phone on him, even when he slept, but there was a slim chance it had fallen out of his pocket at his desk.

Tranquility: Business Park

For another Autobot, the assignment would probably have been dull. Sit immobile in truck mode in a parking lot, waiting for the work day to end. When it had, wait for all the humans to get in their cars and leave, then drive back to the subdivision near the highway and cruise the streets all night. Repeat the next day. He couldn't even listen to his radio until 5:30. At least Bumblebee got to hang out at the noisy and bustling high school, and his days were shorter.

But Ridge was a very patient Autobot. He always took a parking spot such that he could see between the business park's buildings. Back there, through the fence, was a field where Ridge could make notes on the little creatures frolicking about and scavenging for food and wishing they had time to ponder the meaning of their lives. He'd always been observant, but this world had so much more meaning since his near-death experience in a Decepticon ambush shortly after his arrival on Earth. It was all rather fascinating.

Utah: Coal Mine

The pounding could be heard for a quarter mile from the surface. Mixmaster didn't like breaking the coal by hand, but Starscream had been barking at him for fuel, and they hadn't worked out the automatic excavation system yet. Three hundred feet below the desert floor, Mixmaster's optic lit the carbon boulder he'd broken free. He hefted it to bring it to the grinder for processing, adding to the layer of black dust coating his hide. It was starting to grate in his hydraulics. He hated this work.

Nellis Air Force Base

Skydive hated it when humans flew him.

The only experienced military officer among Optimus Prime's militia, Skydive had been many things in his day. A soldier. A dissenter. A defector. An outcast. And now, inexplicably, a trusted lieutenant. But never, in all his years, had the bookish Autobot ever dreamt he would be a vehicle.

It was a necessary evil, a part of his cover as one of the base's squadron of F-22s. He knew that. But he didn't think he'd ever grow to like it. Humans were just so...slow, so sluggish, that they couldn't use the cutting-edge abilities of his airframe to anything approaching what it was capable of. He was so ashamed for the poor organic creatures that he had occasionally 'helped' them by enhancing the manuevers they called for, but he'd stopped doing that when he realized that the fleshlings' own construction wasn't durable enough to withstand truly acrobatic aerial manuevers.

He and his small unit of Autobots had been here for weeks now, camouflaged as military vehicles, watching the humans at the nearby Hoover Dam suspiciously. They claimed to have disposed of Megatron and the other Decepticons in the ocean, but a series of fly-bys had shown that the mass of Cybertronian remains on the ocean floor was far less than would be required to account for all the dead Decepticons. Prime suspected some sort of treachery on the part of the humans, but after spending this long in their company Skydive was beginning to doubt they were capable of such things. They were just so...slow.

But still he stayed, and his men stayed, watching and waiting. Just in case.

(OOC: I figure Evac and Landmine would probably be part of the on-base team, since their alt-modes would be out of place anywhere else. It's up to you guys, though. :))

Hurricane, Utah

Barricade rolled through the streets at a sedate pace, carefully taking in all the sights. There wasn't much to see, though, in a small town like Hurricane. Still, he had to check; if the Autobots had managed to track him or any of his fellow Decepticons, they would eventually arrive here. And if they did, he would rather find out about it now than when an enemy attack squad showed up at one of the local facilities he and Starscream had co-opted.

Disguised as he was in the colours of a Utah Highway Patrol squad car, his dayly runs through Hurricane, St. George and other nearby towns didn't attract much attention. And, luckily, they never turned up anything particularly suspicious, either. Although he would happily crush any Autobots foolish enough to make an incursion into Decepticon territory, he knew that they weren't quite ready to face their old foes in force. Not yet. Not until their numbers had recovered to something resembling a real army again.

But soon...soon, we'll be able to take them on. Once our spies start reporting back on their targets...

That thought in mind, Barricade finished his circuit and headed back toward the Decepticons' main headquarters facility. As he approached the old Air Force proving ground, highway traffic grew more and more scant, to the point that it was basically nonexistent. No one was around to see as the Highway Patrol car began to ripple, it's paint scheme flowing into that of a USAF Military Police cruiser.

"Sub-Commander Barricade returning from patrol," he transmitted in Cybertronian to the security AI that he'd set up to monitor the base entrances. Moments later, the gate in front of him rolled aside, and Barricade drove inside.

Banachek's Office, Hoover Dam

His tiny hands moving so quickly that they were virtually invisible to the human eye, Wire Tap typed in commands on the foolish human's terminal. The tiny, newborn Decepticon had spent most of his short life being carted around by the disgusting fleshling, but his sacrifice had finally paid off. For once, the usually-diligent human had left him behind in a room with a computer. He probably only had a few minutes to himself before his so-called 'owner' returned, but he was making the most of it.

He'd already seen several of the dead Decepticons stored in the Dam with his own optics, but he knew Starscream would want more than that. He'd want names, dates, maps, security logins, door codes, passwords, and every other scrap of intelligence that Wire Tap could gather. The small Transformer was more than willing to oblige; he hated seeing so many of his brother Decepticons in this state, being picked apart by disgusting organic creatures.

Off in the distance, he heard footsteps. And he recognized them. After all, he heard them from inside the fleshling's pocket every day.

The window of opportunity has shut, he thought sadly as he transformed back into his cellular phone mode. But I've gotten enough to start with. First chance I get, I'll transmit it to Starscream.

Decepticon Field Base, Outside of Hurricane, Utah:

He'd spent hours doing research. Days, even. And there was no logical alternative. Nothing on Earth could provide the appropriate alt-mode weaponry.

And, some small, creative part of him that was generally quashed on the subconscious level wholeheartedly agreed that nothing else looked right.

Which meant that, for now, Shockwave stayed under cover.

And for now it worked. He spent his days soaking up data, studying the fleshling's tactics, weapons, and general physiological and psychological data. When the time was right, he'd make his move. Control of the Decepticons would fall to the one most logically suited to lead.

Him.

Mission City:

Ironhide sat in traffic, every part of him bored. Traffic laws, human pedestrians, animal pedestrians, street signs..... It was maddening. And the number of "bump-n-runs" that had happened to him in the last week alone..... if he was in another one, he'd decided to transform(blending in be damned) and obliterate the offending vehicle.

Then there were the attempted carjackings. Driving down a back alley with three gangbangers hanging onto his doors, truckbed, and in one case his tailgate was not, in his conscidered opinion, fun.

Hoover Damn, Security Control:

Lennox stared at the monitor images of the four Cybertronian wrecks. It always kind of worried him that they'd never found that giant scorpion. In fact, though he'd never admit it to anybody but his wife(she'd been there for the times he'd woken up, screaming in primal terror), he only hoped that it was dead. He wasn't sure, couldn't be sure.

He could only hope that it was dead, or couldn't track him here.

That was the nice thing about this place. Solid concrete and reinforced steel. It couldn't get through to here, could it?

He picked up a clipboard and started riffling though reports, needing to find something that would distract him.

Ratchet could get used to this. Being the team medic, he didn't have to go out on long patrols, he just cruised through town enjoying the scenery. He had to be prepared, but with the Decepticons no where to be found, he could take it easy for a while. Nights though, well they were a different story.

Cliffjumper loved going fast and fighting Decepticons. Keeping watch over the Autobot base involved neither of these. Sure it had do be done, but he just wished there was a least a few humans to scare off. So far, nothing.

Night Beat flapped down from his perch on the corner of a building and glided in through Ironhide's open window and landed on the passenger seat.

"nothing to report Boss no activity round here , managed to sneak on to a computer and go online, someone reported seeing a robot up by somewhere called Mount St Hilary, i think it's a dead end. Checked his posting history, last month it was something called Bigfoot, before that it was little grey men."

Barricade rolled through the base at a sedate pace, not wanting to draw undue attention from the skeleton crew of humans that maintained what was, essentially, an empty base. That wasn't unusual, he had discovered; in between flurries of activity when new airframes were tested, the proving ground was basically derelict. The fact that the Decepticons could basically come and go as they pleased said a lot about the state of the facility; even before Barricade had hacked the base's computer network and made it into his slave, the place had been laughably easy to infiltrate.

The Decepticon rolled past a knot of humans (all of which seemed to be more interested in smoking and telling stories than actually doing any work), then pulled up onto a vehicle elevator. He transmitted a signal to the elevator's RF transponder, and the lift started to sink into the ground, eventually depositing him in an underground hangar.

Once he was inside the hangar, Barricade dispensed with his disguise and transformed to robot mode. There was no chance of being spotted here; one of the first things he'd done when he'd suborned the base computer to the Decepticon cause was flag this hangar as the most heavily restricted area on base; in theory, not even the Secretary of Defence had the authority to come here.

Barricade's needle-sharp facial projections curved upward into the mechanical equivalent of a smile. This place was his, his own private lair, where he could be free of the puny humans and even his fellow Decepticons. And he had been busy; an assortment of video monitors, computer systems and scientific equipment lined the walls. All horribly primitive, of course, cobbled together as it was from stolen human technology. Nevertheless, it provided the Decepticon everything he needed to stay one step ahead of the humans, the Autobots...and even his fellow Decepticons as well. Important at the best of times, the unexpected arrival of the one designated 'Shockwave' meant that surveillance on his own kind was every bit as important as the intelligence operations he mounted against their enemies.

What does it matter if we destroy every last Autobot, he mused, if I'm not here to see it?

(I know very little of American geography and not much culture, so forgive me if I make a mistake)

Optimus Prime Cruised down the near empty highway, a single Peterbuilt surrounded by desert. He enjoyed every chance to see more of the world he now called home. When he fell from orbit as a protoform, he'd scanned several other continents, and secretly wished he could meet the people there. But his duty came first. Transporting goods around the area made a good cover for patrolling. To be safe he randomly checked in with the Autobot base, if anything to make sure Cliffjumper was alert. As he spotted the turn towards their base, he opened a comm channel.

'Optimus Prime to base, status report Cliffjumper'

Glen sat happily at his computer, a plate full of crumbs sat had once been donuts next to him. Three wide flat screens sat in front of him, two of them streamed data from the artifact housed behind a reinforced screen, the one NBE piece that still showed any life. The tail that had once belonged to the NBE he'd dubbed the Scorpian (After the Spiderman villain).

The third screen however ever, showed recordings from the fights 5 weeks ago. Even now, seeing the battles still left him speechless, they were so cool.

'That's it Prime, get him! Get him,' he burst out as a shakey video showed him Prime leaping on Megatron.

Two scientists closer to the screen looked up from their terminals, shook their heads and returned to work. They'd suffered these outbursts from their 'head' for the past 3 weeks and were nearing braking point.

Two months ago, Sam Witwicky's life had been very different. He was worried about getting 3 A's and scrounging up enough money for his half of a new car. It had even gotten so bad at one point, that he started hocking off some family heirlooms (he still shuddered a little at the events that his decesion set off) - but, the reason behind it was noble. It wasn't just about the teenage freedom that comes with your own car, no - the car was what would get him the girl

Ah, the girl......

"Shot through the heart
And your to blame!"

The sudden loud music jerked Sam awake again. They were cruising along one of local highways, on his way to the beach. While there were few cars on the road, the brand new yellow Camero attracted attention at the best of times, it would have been worse if someone had spotted it's driver asleep behind the wheel.....

"Sorry BB." Sam said weakly

"Don't worry about it Sam, but if you're going to sleep, move to the other side and I'll put up a hologram."

There was a joking tone in the robotic voice that issued from the car's speakers. Sam felt like an idiot when he was driven around like that. Besides, if you "owned" a car like this, you wanted to drive it.... even if you weren't doing the driving.

"What's the plan for today?" He asked, staring at the steering wheel.

"Figure I'd surprise you, though I thought we'd take a detour first and pick someone up."

Sam's eyes glazed over at that, and in his mind's eye, he saw her opening the hood of his old, beat up, '76 Camero. Things had certianly changed......

If Bumblebee was in robot mode, he would have shaken his head. It had been almost two months since the Decepticons had been defeated in their bid for the Allspark. Initially, he had been worried for a counter attack - not all of the Decepticons on Earth had been accounted for. But, as the hours, days and then weeks wore on - Bumblebee got more comfortable with his role as protector and friend of the human: Sam Witwickey.

He was enjoying touring around the small-ish town, "hanging out" with Sam and Mikaela, going to drive-in's (he was becoming a fan of some of the Earth action heroes) and learning more about his new home. On the surface, he thought that things might stay this way. That he wouldn't have to fight any more......

On the surface.....

Hurricane Utah , Universal Exports Warehouse.

Scrapper sat at the console in the quarters he had fashioned beneath the building.

So easy to set up a false identity, to channel funds to buy material without the humans meeting one another.

Scrapper had answered Starscream's call and had been tasked with logistics once the immediate need for his medical expertise was over. His tasks included keeping the Decepticon force supplied , setting up a permament med bay facility and investigating alternatives to the diode breaking coal conversion process. Mixmaster had been adamant that it would need to be a number 1 priority.

His first step had been the acquisition of the run down ware house near the Hurricane Canal and now he was starting the process of trading and ordering supplies. With the aid if a computer link and a hard light holographic projector.

Ridge waited patiently for his clock to strike 5:30. Every car in the parking lot had left except one. Ridge started his engine and backed up from his parking spot. He glanced at the other remaining vehicle, a silver Chevy Avalanche, in his rear-view mirror before shifting into drive and cruising through the raised gate. He didn't want to call Bumblebee yet - he'd rather try to track him down first. Ridge had been observing Sam's habits, and he had a hunch where he might be going at this hour.

Utah: Coal Mine

Mixmaster folded his arms impatiently while waiting for the process to be finished. The powdered coal had gone into a blast furnace, where it was combusted and squeezed at incredibly high termperatures and pressures. Reverse entropy was then applied to the plasma, and trace raw elements were mixed to congeal the appropriate molecules. Then it moved on to a cooling chamber to bring the superheated gas to a consumable liquid form. Nobody liked hot fuel, after all.

Mixmaster partially marvelled at the ingeniousness of the process, but mostly he was just bored. It didn't help that the machinery wasn't entirely efficient, letting odiferous hot air leak on him. When the last of the barrels hooked to the hose off the cooling chamber was filled, Mixmaster shut down the processor and easily hoisted the palette the barrels were on. He tromped back to the ancient service elevator he'd repaired and set it to raise to the surface and return in an hour.

"Payload," he transmitted in Cybertronian, "this is Mixmaster. Come to the mine to pick up two barrels of jet fuel, two of diesel, and two of gasoline. Hail Starscream," he added drably.

The footsteps continued rhythmically toward the door, finally stopping where a shadow could be seen in the crack below it. After a moment of fumbling with his keys, Banachek strode in and glanced around. His first thoughts were to look under his chair and across the floor. He was surprised to find his phone sitting obediently on his desk.

That's odd. Why would I have left it there?

Banachek shrugged, picked up the phone, and dialed. "...Jeff? It's Tom. There's a circuit problem with 23. They're working on ejecting that cannon in the torso. Right. Right, but there's some damage to the triggers. Get down there and have a look at it. I'll be down in an hour."

The phone beeped in Banachek's ear before he finished, and he looked at it to find a low battery display. This new phone had been devouring batteries like crazy. He scoffed at the idea of having time to get it replaced. Banachek plugged the phone into its charger, set the door lock, and walked out again.

That being said, the fact that nobody had dusted him at all was also facinating.

Barricade's Lair, Utah

Sitting at a hastily-assembled Transformer-scale computer terminal, the Decepticon sub-commander downloaded a status update from the increasingly-complex network of hardware and software that he had hooked into the humans' worldwide network to monitor any traffic of interest.
Intercepted transmissions indicate that several human military units and a tabloid 'news' crew are attempting to mount expeditions to the supposed underwater location of the dead Decepticons' bodies. Threat Index: 2.3%.
Messages posted to several conspiracy theory boards claiming that alien activity has been observed in Utah, so far ignored by mainstream media. Threat Index: 4.8%.
Several transmissions on Autobot frequencies intercepted near the Hoover Dam area. Encryption scheme so far indecipherable. Threat Index: 28.3%.
Human transmissions from same area partially decrypted. Indications seem to confirm presence of fallen Decepticons. Awaiting confirmation by agent on scene. Threat Index: 13.4%.
Unit designated Shockwave continues to access information archives at an alarming rate. Unit has not been observed to move from assigned hangar in many days. Threat Index: 42.8%.
Barricade absorbed the computer report quickly, aware of how limited it was in scope. Even working with the software he had designed, the human hardware had proved to be extremely poor at sifting out useful information from all the dreck that infested the human network, although admittedly it was getting better (his status reports hadn't included references to any of the Internet's countless pornography sites in a few weeks, thank the Allspark). But it was still far from adequate.

The equipment available on this backwards world is little more than a shadow of what Cybertronian technology is capable of. A pity we are so desperately outnumbered by the natives and driven to take on disguises. If we could bring the Nemesis down to the surface, the transport's computer systems would make this kind of analysis much easier. But, alas...we do what we can with what we have. And speaking of...

The Decepticon reached for a different section of his cobbled-together computer array and activated his communications array. Lacking the complex encryption systems and tight-band transmission gear that a more advanced Cybertronian facility would offer, Barricade had been forced to improvise. Instead of trying to cobble together something resembling a Transformer comm network, he had simply written software that allowed him to transmit to his comrades over the human Internet; little more than an advanced version of what humans would call a VOIP protocol. Primitive, but almost impossible to trace when routed properly.

"Scrapper," he transmitted to the Decepticons' logistics expert, "what is the status of our computer hardware acquisition program? My monitoring station still requires far more computing power to adequately observe and analyze all the network traffic on this benighted world."

Banachek's Office, Hoover Dam

Wire Tap had resisted the urge to blast the human's skull apart with a high-pitched sonic burst, but only just. His fellow Decepticons needed the information that he was stealing from this pathetic organic patsy, and he wasn't about to disappoint them for the sake of his own personal satisfaction.

Besides, he thought, when I have all the data I need, I will get more than enough of an opportunity to eliminate the foul creature. Soon. Very soon.

Once Banachek had left, Wire Tap allowed himself a few moments of rest as his recharged his battery. He no longer really used his primitive human cell as a main energy source; during his time at the base, he had managed to steal a pair of tiny-but-powerful Cybertronian power cells from Blackout's corpse and tie them into his own systems. They had been nearly empty, though, and even though he had been tricking the human into recharging him at every possible moment he'd only managed to bring the Cybertronian cells up to 25% of a full charge. That was more than enough for regular operations, but it hampered his ability to use his offensive equipment, should he need it.

And need it I might. Wire Tap had been stealing data from Banachek's computer and recording the security codes he used for weeks. That line of investigation had turned up quite a bit, but his latest incursion into the fleshling's computer gave him the feeling he had taken it as far as it would go. I'll have to take a more pro-active approach if I'm going to get the job done.

The Decepticon had no question about his ability to out-think the humans who ran the facility. They weren't even close to a match for him, being lower forms of life that would be expunged from the surface of this world like the vermin they were (for fun, if nothing else) once the Decepticons had eliminated their Autobot protectors. He was impatient to get on with it, but if he was going to do the job right, he needed power.

Thirty percent, he told himself. I can get the job done at thirty percent. It won't take too long to get the charge level up to there.

Or so he really, truly hoped.

Nellis Air Force Base

After Skydive had been wheeled into his hangar, a human maintenance crew had spent several hours crawling over him, marvelling at how his systems never seemed to undergo the decay and wear that the regular, human-built F-22s did. Not knowing he was actually a highly-advanced alien robot, the techs could only chalk his impressive durability up to incredible luck or the grace of their oddly-insubstantial patron deities. Once they had left, he got to work.

The Autobot quickly activated a cut-out in the hangar's video monitoring, transmitting a still frame to the security office to cover his movements. Then he transformed to robot mode. He had to remain hunched over, his nearly forty-foot frame unable to stand straight in what was, to the humans, a very large building. But he was able to move, and move he did. He sidled over to a computer terminal and interfaced with it, inserting new orders into the base computers. The orders called for a solo F-22 flight over an unoccupied stretch of desert at below-radar altitude, as part of a training regimen for a pilot who, although he didn't actually exist, seemed to log quite a few flight hours in Skydive.

That done, Skydive returned to vehicle mode and activated his holo-avatar. He transmitted a request for launch clearance to the air traffic control tower, received an OK, and blasted out of the hangar. He restrained himself from dancing in the air, not wanting to attract undue attention while he was still within visual range of the human base.

He allowed himself to fly for a few minutes, not bothering to think about anything other than how much he enjoyed being in control of himself again, before his sense of duty took over.

"Evac, Landmine, this is Skydive. I'm heading to rendezvous point delta. Please meet me there in half an hour." He took great care to phrase his order like a request, not wanting to provoke the same sort of resentment in his small observation team as he'd manage to spur in some of the other Autobots he'd worked with.

Skydive acknowledged Landmine's report with a double-click of his comm system, not wanting to give the humans any more data for their crypt teams to chew on than he had to, if they were monitoring the Autobots' coded transmissions. He knew that a stricter commander might have scolded the other Autobot for transmitting at all, but Skydive also knew how lonely a mission like this could get, and he sympathized with his fellow's desire to air his complaints to one of his own kind.

Once the team leader had arrived at the designated meeting point, he circled a couple times before transforming to robot mode and skidding to a landing. He knew that revealing himself in the open was risky, but he'd chosen this location because the chances of being observed were minimal. Very few humans trekked this far out into the desert this late in the day unless they really, really needed to. Humans being humans, that 'need' was almost always related to criminal activity of some sort.

And I somehow doubt that the human organized crime syndicates who come out here to dispose of their unwanted cohorts are going to be in any hurry to point the authorities in this direction.

The Autobot took the opportunity to stretch out flat on his back on the sand, watching the stars. As he awaited Landmine and Evac, he loaded a fighter pilot-focused science-fiction novel that he'd downloaded previously and began to slowly read through it.

"Very well," he told the cold-fuelled warrior. "In that case, return to base. There is a boxcar waiting for you in Fairbanks, booked on the next non-stop Alaska to Utah train. You should be able to get back here before daybreak."

He switched channels (a complicated task using his jury-rigged contraption) and replied to Scrapper. "Make the necessary arrangements," he said. "I'll await your report."

Once again switching channels, he answered Shockwave. His reply was far less cordial, though, given the other Decepticon's status as a suspected enemy of the regime. "Starscream's location is classified," he said flatly. "You don't have the necessary clearance for that information. Our fuel reserves are adequate, but I don't have today's updated figures yet. Activating his internal transmitter, he quickly modulated his signal so that the humans' own transmissions would mask it before he began sending. "Barricade, this is Wire Tap. I have located our brethren, and have the data required to liberate them. Stand by for transmission."

Starscream stood and reviewed the current operations of his - his! - Decepticons. The fuel recovery work was going well, the parts acquisition system functioning, information pouring in...

He was in charge! Megatron was gone, slain ultimately by his own monumental folly, that desire to destroy his 'brother'. In no way was this Stascream's fault and no one had even attempted to point out that he might have intervened with more vigour when the humans' jets came round and opened fire on Megatron.

But. Ah, there was always a 'but', wasn't there?

Shockwave was here and starting to weave too many threads of his own. Barricade also bore watching. There were too few Cybertronian remains on the seabed.

"'Heavy rests the head that bears the crown'," Starscream muttered, recalling a text from the Internet.

Ironhide cursed under his breath as he swerved to avoid somebody who had stepped out of a building, smashing through an overflowing Dumpster, garbage spraying liberally across his hood, windshield, roof, and one bag splattering wetly into the bed of his vehicle as the Dumpster spins away, crashing into a wall as a crumpled wreck. "Optimus, Night Beat just confirmed it! There's a Decepticon loose in the city! We're gonna try to run him down!" Slamming on the brakes, he slewed around a corner, tailgate dropping open, centrifugal force flinging the soggy garbage bag out of his truck bed, tailgate slamming shut as the bag explodes against a light pole as he switches frequencies, his tires squealing as he roars down the street. "Night Beat, any sign of where that Decepticon went?"

Avalanche was inherently patient. He could just about sit out anything, observing quietly, until it was time to move - and then he really, really moved.

Maybe he had not quite come to terms with this new world yet. He sat in the car park, a lone vehicle, the sinking sun picking out highlights on his silver bodywork; he had not figured out that a single car left like that would look odd. However, no one had disturbed him and he had sat there for two diurnal rotations, enjoying the peace.

Time to check in. He had been often accused of terseness, but he saw his short message as meeting the required criteria for a field operative. "Optimus Prime: this is Avalanche. Transmitting status. Please confirm."

The martial artist allowed the vehicle to pass him before turning around and transforming, leaping onto the trailer and running towards the cab, somersaulting near the edge, plunging his blades deep into both driver and passenger, using his momentum to flip yet again, firing his torso cannon into the engine as he did so, destroying the vehicle and any evidence the humans could use to identify the attacker as a Cybertronian.

Avalanche, receiving no response to his transmission, ran a disgnostic on his radio systems. Finding no problems, he could only make two analyses: either Autobase had been destroyed (unlikely) or his commander and colleagues were actively involved in the field combating a Decepticon incursion. If this were the case, his reporting-in would be logged and he would, no doubt, be receiving a response when circumstances allowed.

In the event of any Decepticon action, Acalanche had been instructed to focus on protecting humans, primarily one Samuel Witwicky. Consulting his satnav, he plotted a route to the relevant household and, starting his engine, left the car park. As he did so, he broadcast a further brief message.

Barricade acknowledged Payload while keeping one optic firmly set on the data that Wire Tap was transmitting.

"Excellent work," he praised the other Decepticon. "I see that Scrapper is interfacing with you. Once you have finished unloading your cargo, you two should see to it that your combat equipment is in good functioning order. We may have a combat mission in the near future."

He glanced down, seeing that all of Wire Tap's data had been recieved. His face reconfigured into a mechanical smirk as he activated a comm signal on Starscream's frequency. "Commander," he said with well-acted but still quite false deference, "one of our agents has located the remains of our fallen comrades in a human facility not far from here." His voice took on a sarcastic note. "As it happens, the same place they had kept 'mighty' Megatron frozen for the last century. Wire Tap has stolen all of the base's security codes for us. I suggest we break cover, strike at the facility and recover our fallen brothers."

Of course, Barricade was motivated less by brotherly loyalty to his fellow Decepticons than he was by simple mathematics; with the additional troops on their side, they would have a decided advantage when the time came to exterminate their Autobot enemies.

Barricade's Lair

"As you command," Barricade replied flatly to Starscream's extremely rude instructions, severing his connection immediately thereafter. Although he recognized some of his own traits in his commander, Barricade was too pragmatic to see the other Decepticon as any sort of kindred spirit. They shared an underlying selfishness and a tendency toward deviousness, but that was where the similarities ended. Barricade was patient, playing a long game with ends that he would never reveal even to his closest allies. Starscream, on the other hand, was a strutting popinjay too concerned with ego and image to ever really be as subtle as he liked to believe.

So far, all the indications I've seen suggest that his reign won't last very long. Whether it be Shockwave, a re-invigorated Blackout or someone else entirely who throws him down is an open question, but that's not my concern. I need to help stave off challenges to his regime until my own plans come to fruition, but after that...after that, I'll be in a position to be indispensable to any future Decepticon leaders, whoever they may be.

After de-scrambling and listening in on Starscream's communique to Stockade just to prove to himself that he could, he contacted Payload and said, "I have new orders for you and Scrapper. Once your cargo has been unloaded, I want you remain in vehicle mode and allow him to load inside your cargo compartment. Then head east on I-15 until you reach the Nevada border. I'll meet with you there."

He almost closed the channel, but thought better of it and added, "Oh, there is a crate in your warehouse marked with Lot #233421. Bring it with you. We may need it."

As Barricade headed for his warren's exit, he loaded the routing information for all of his fellow Decepticons into his internal comm unit. Transforming to vehicle mode, he rolled into his equipment lift and began the journey up to ground level. As he travelled, he sent messages to four more Decepticons.

"Thundercracker, report your current status and prepare for deployment. Mixmaster, if your current duties allow, please transit to Mission City and assist Stockade with his mayhem-making. Shockwave, leave your hangar and rendezvous with me at the main gate. Wreckage, please expedite your return to base as much as possible. The rest of the unit is heading into combat and we may need your assistance. If any Decepticons haven't received orders, please speak up now so I can remedy that."

The vehicle lift arrived at ground level and Barricade shot off for the gate at full speed, emergency lights flashing and siren wailing.

Because of his small size, Cliffjumper had left Prime stuck in between abandoned cars as people ran by. Time was of the essence, so he made the decision to transform. People shrieked as the Peterbilt became a giant robot much like the one they were running from. Still several turned and ran the other way, giving Prime a place to put his foot down. Careful to avoid treading on anyone Prime ran to the battle while his tactical computer analysed the situation and came up with three objectives.

1. Prevent further lose of human life
2. Minimise damage to surrounding area
3. Defeat the decepticon

Following these objectives he issued orders as he arrived on scene, near Cliffjumper, but blocked from Stockades sight by a building.
'Cliffjumper get all the human out of here! Ironhide with me, draw him to this area. Avoid using guns were possible.' His internal navigation systems gave coordinates for a nearby scrapyard they'd been using.

The scattered panicked humans were programmed well with threat detection and avoidance, so it was easy for them to understand that giant robots were to be run from. From a Decepticon perspective, this was the beauty of being a robot in disguise, for the miserable little bacteria didn't know what to trust. Not that they were worth much bother.

Mixmaster plowed along the desolate streets of downtown Mission City, ramming empty cars into palm trees and bus stops and unaware humans. He viewed the carnage of two humans trapped under a burning bus in his wing mirror, and he wondered why a third was helping them until the gas tank exploded and incinerated all three. He almost chuckled, but there was a distraction ahead.

Autobot, Mixmaster growled internally. He shifted up and charged forward, gunning to take out Ironhide's legs from behind.

At the same time, Mixmaster had been unaware of Nightbeat's presence, and the accelerator blast hit its mark on his back right wheels. The impact caused his rear to spin out, slipping past Ironhide's rockets before they decimated the pavement. The explosion upended the cement mixer, sending Mixmaster barreling through the air toward Ironhide.

Banachek froze when the report came in - "phone-sized NBE". For a moment he thought it could be a regular set, but he knew it was the only explanation for the strange behavior of his cell phone. He made a note to see a doctor.

"Banachek here, I hear you, Lennox," he said into the phone at last. "Do what you need to. I'll call again shortly."

He knew better than to tell Lennox he'd be meeting the technicians at the bomb shelter on Level 18. Where there was one NBE, there were always more, and they had a terrible habit of listening to phone calls. The strategist started to scan the ground all around the hangar, slowly picking up small energon readings. As his sensor beams reached the perimeter of the base, the readings were so minute that he literally wouldn't have been able to see them if he hadn't known what he was looking for, but they were there all the same. He began to power up his engines to follow the trail, but held off when he received Prime's transmission.

"Optimus, this is Skydive. I copy." He hesitated, not wanting to seem like he was challenging his leader's authority. But then he remembered that Prime had inexplicably chosen him to be his second in command. He was supposed to chip in with his ideas.

"Sir, I hesitate to mention this, but my team has a line on the bodies of the Decepticons you killed in the last engagement. The information we have suggests that the bodies were stored at Nellis AFB as we suspected, and then transported in the direction of the Hoover Dam."

He hesitated again, then said, "Sir, what if the Decepticons have this information as well? The attack you're fighting off might be a distraction meant to keep us busy while they recover their fallen comrades at their leisure. We need to find the bodies and destroy them before they end up back in Decepticon hands."

Skydive didn't envy Prime for the decision he'd have to make. Either option would have dire consequences, maybe even if he made the right call.

Once the one named Lennox (who seemed to be ineffectually leading the hunt for him) signed off with the one named Banachek (who seemed to be his superior), Wire Tap cut into the soldier's frequency.

"You have a lot to learn, human. First of all, I'm not an NBE. I was born on this world, like any of you. And second, I didn't kill your man. You did, and those like you. You killed him when you decided to take four and a half of our comrades away from us for your own selfish reasons."

Over the desert

As he approached Earth's atmosphere, feeling the first of the radiation belts caressing his airframe, Starscream flipped into the form he had taken so recently, that of a F-22 Raptor. No human-built jet could perform at this height, but that hardly mattered. He fell without engines, knowing that his entry orientation would disguise him from any scanners; maybe someone would catch the blip of a piece of space debris, if their equipment was up to it.

Theoretically, his speed and angle of descent were critical. Nothing alive could hope to pull up and survive. But he was Starscream! He performed the impossible with ease and, in his own opinion, finesse...

A ninety-degree flip, airbrakes leaving roiling contrails in the tortured air behind him, he ignited his engines and raced parallel with the empty desert. Two waves of sand kicked up high in his wake as he rearranged twenty miles of dunes in less than eight seconds. And he was slowing, now.

Evasiveness was never Mixmaster's forte, and he wouldn't start today. Ironhide's blast hit its mark squarely, and though it did little real damage to the Decepticon's thick hide, the impact force sent him sprawling on a pair of parked cars. Mixmaster pushed himself up with a grunt while his right hand transformed, and he fired a set of rockets back at the Autobot and the building around him.

Skydive spun away from the gamma blast, but the edge of it still managed to blacken the underside of his right wing and send him into a spin. He allowed the fall to continue unabated, with the smoke of burnt paint trailing behind him, as long as he deemed safe. And then he fell some more.

Gotta make him think I'm out of control...

At the last second, Skydive pulled up, maxed out his engines, and shot toward the dam. He held his course just long enough for Shockwave to start tracking him, then transformed to robot mode, pushed himself into a skid, and used his machine gun to rake fire across the Decepticon's position.

Starscream banked upwards, transforming into warrior mode, and then dropped back down, his pedal extremities thunking into the sand. He looked down at the particulate material stretching far into the distance all around him. He strode the last few paces to the origin of the signal he had been following.

"Scorponok?" he asked the ground. There was a distinct lack of motion; the smaller Decepticon was reknowned for his speed - and the fact that, although stealth was his forte, he loved making dramatically sudden appearances.

Kneeling, Starscream traced the signal carefully, then drove his right hand down, down to where the sands were much cooler. His fingers connected with metal, and he seized and pulled. Up came Scorponok and Starscream could see that he was holding the other just forwards of where his tail should have been! There were ugly burn marks round the wound. Starscream produced a hissing sound, remembering the rain of projectiles that the humans had poured into his erstwise comrades in the battle when Megatron went down.

"So," he grated. "These little insects can sting, too, can they?"

With a twisted metal sound and thousands of moving panels, Payload transformed into robot mode faster than meets the eye.

" Good luck! " he said to Scrapper, who was following Barricade inside the human strange construction.

Skydive first attack missed him by inches, and Payload decided not to take more risks with the tough Autobot, at least in the open ground. So he decided to take cover behind the rocks near the road.

Skydive was disappointed in himself. He'd been so busy worrying about Shockwave that he'd forgotten to factor Payload into his tactical calculations, and the smaller Decepticon hit him dead-on in the fuselage with both of his energy bolts. However, the impact of the shots pushed him out of the way of Shockwave's microwave beam, so he decided not to complain too much; moderate armour damage was a lot less harmful than having half of his innards slagged by radiation.

Such a lack of concern for collateral damage, he thought. But I doubt they'd be so sanguine about the prospect of fire that isn't aimed away from the dam...

The damaged armour marred his aerodynamic profile making Skydive shake a little as he looped around, aimed at the base of the dam nearest to the Decepticons, and fired a pair of missiles straight at it.

They won't let me bury their comrades, not to mention their fallen, under thousands of tonnes of rock. They'll have to concentrate on the missiles, not on me. Truth be told, even he wasn't entirely sure whether his attack was a feint or not. He'd really rather not have to explain to Prime the human deaths that even his so-far minor attack on the dam could cause. But on the other hand, destroying the dam would mean bringing an end to the Decepticons inside and wouldn't do too many favours for the two he was fighting either.

Lets just hope it doesn't come to where that's my only option, he thought.

He was no medic, but Starscream managed to tidy up the damage to Scorponok's tail, noting that the underlying self-regenerating structures were already primed to begin the rebuilding process once suitable metals were available - if the burns allowed for it. Since Scorponok's internal power core seemed stable and active, he only had to provide a small amount of fuel to ensure the smaller Decepticon came out of shock and back on-line with the castanet click of huge claws.

Skydive artfully evaded Shockwave's latest attack, but winced when the microwave beams flash-fried a flock of birds that had passed nearby.

Such wanton disregard for native lifeforms... Skydive pondered the irony in that, seeing as how he was seriously considering destroying a large dam just to kill a handful of Decepticons. But that's different, he thought. I might cause collateral damage, but only as an absolute last resort. The Decepticons do it as a matter of course. Just one more reason why I'm not one of them anymore.

Seeing that his first missiles had impacted into the base of the dam, Skydive reloaded his launchers and fired another barrage at the structure. The projectiles' paths were seemingly random, but in fact had been carefully calculated so that they wouldn't bring the facility crumbling to the ground. They would, however, weaken it enough that another careful volley would do exactly that.

With luck it won't come to that. But I've never been one for trusting in luck when I have other options at hand.

After firing the missiles, he dove down and strafed Shockwave with his machine gun, hoping to prevent the Decepticon from acting against his missiles before they struck. The enemy hadn't seemed to notice his first attack on the structure, though, so he questioned the need for such distractions.

Well, better safe than sorry...

Skydive assumed his missiles had hit Shockwave, but didn't get a chance to confirm it. Nor did he get a chance to reply to the Decepticon's droning logic; half a second after the other Transformer had spoken, the two of them collided in mid-air with a resounding clang that would have deafened any humans stupid enough to be observing the fight at close range.

They began to fall out of the sky, a co-mingled mess of mechanical parts and metal plates that could very well have been a single robotic abomination instead of two Transformers. Skydive tried to wrap his legs around Shockwave's torso and jabbed the point of his elbow at his foe's single optic lens.

There had been a brief delay while Starscream cut down four hostiles which had challenged him over the Moroccan seaboard, but he was now pouring on the power. The human-built F-22 had been pushed to 1.72 Mach without payload and without afterburners; Starscream was effortlessly doing that and half again. He was also enjoying the flight, hugging the surging waves and occasionally rising to perform some feat of acrobatics, secure in his stealth modifications. He even passed within a few miles of ships, knowing that anyone who saw him would assume there was a military fleet just over the horizon.

Opening his radio system, he sent out a single pulsed transmission. "This is Starscream. Thundercracker, acknowledge."

It would appear that Stockade's tendency to overdo it had drawn a lot of Autobots to Mission City; no doubt, Barricade had eavesdropped his private transmission and sent support. How predictable! But how necessary was that predictability, along with Autobot responses. The enemy would be stretched over two active fronts – and possibly several would remain out of play guarding the family of the human youngling.

Starscream had been impressed by that one. No so impressed that he would not, at some stage, remove him as a token in memory of dear, departed Megatron, of course. Such an act could be achieved without personal danger, if planned correctly, and cement his position in the optical systems of those who saw him as Megatron’s logical successor. There were quite a few, he knew, who would follow him whilst the mantle of reflected glory sat on his shoulders and he intended to keep them loyal.

"Exaggerate any injuries you may have sustained and withdraw towards the north-west. You will then swing wide to meet me at these co-ordinates in two point three standard time units." He sent the map reference through embedded in the message to Thundercracker, where it should be unreadable except to the receiver. Barricade, who was the most likely to be monitoring all Decepticon communications, was after all otherwise occupied.

Lennox, sweat pouring from his brow, peered over the bottom of the sill in the office overlooking the vault the Decepticon bodies were kept in, scowling, then ducked back down. He'd barricaded the office door, blocked the air vents, and stared at the detenator in his hand. He'd managed to scrounge up a brick of C-4 in the armory and several remote fuses. His last two men were planting tripwire claymore mines in the corridors leading to the vault.

While they'd done that, Lennox had carefully rigged the Liquid Nitrogen tanks in the lab with C-4, as well as the entryway. The claymores probably wouldn't do more than annoy the Decepticons that were coming in, but it would hopefully distract them enough to not notice the fact that the tanks were rigged.

The question was, would he survive this. On the up side, the facility was old, and the walls of this office were reinforced concrete. The down side was the fact that he was blowing several tanks of liquid nitrogen, not to mention a section of wall. If the cold didn't get him, the shrapnel might. Checking the charge on the PDA, he muttered a curse under his breath, he peered up at the workstation in the room, smiled when he noticed the USB port on it. Pulling the PDA's synch cable out of his pocket, he scrambled under the workstation's desk, plugged the cable into the computer and the PDA, sighing. Interior of the dam

Scrapper had been in the process of trundling along the hallway carrying his load of deactivated cons when the blast hit him.

The blastwave stripped off his paintwork and tipped him on to his nose his rear wheels spinning in the air and the pile of deativated Cons weighing him down.

The top two tumbled onto the floor as the restraining wire snapped.

He commed Wiretap

"I'm a little shaken but ok once I get back on my wheels , although I could use a claw here."

"Impossible!" Skydive declared in reply to Prime. "The jets attacked without warning and they haven't attacked Shockwave whatsoever. If they are human, they must be in league with the Decepticons!"

Quickly running through his tactical databases, he transmitted some data to the other nearby Autobots. "Shockwave you've already met," he said. "An unfamiliar Decepticon that converts to some sort of truck is nearby as well. I lost sight of him near the base of the dam, but he's still in the area. Barricade and an unfamiliar Decepticon forklift entered the dam approximately half an hour ago and haven't emerged. I'm sending you all the data I have on them."

As he spoke, the airborne Autobot pelted the area behind Shockwave with missiles to discourage him from backing away from Prime's charge.

Wire Tap disconnected from the control panel and transformed.

"I'm, uh, a little boxed in right now," he told Scrapper. "I'll have to find my way out through the air ducts. I'll be there in five, but since I'm under a foot tall, I'm not sure how much help I'll be. Maybe we should call up Barricade?"

As he spoke, the tiny Decepticon used a hypersonic pulse to pop open a vent, then dove inside.

Harkness scowled behind his oxygen mask. He clicked the comm frequency Shockwave had initially used to contact them. "Attention, unknown Autobot! We're getting slaughtered here, and our base is under attack. There is an armored division on their way. They can provide you better support than we can." Signalling the rest of the squadron's survivors, he ordered a withdrawl.

Shockwave pivoted, targeting Skydive and firing a broad spectrum EM wavefront burst at the diving Autobot, tracking the approaching Autobot leader with his sensors.

Lennox groaned. He pulled himself up out of the debris of the office, blood trickling from a gash on his forehead. He felt dazed, woozy, and came to the conclusion that he was in shock. He wasfairly certain his right arm hadn't been at that angle before he'd hit the trigger.......

As he started to refocus, he realized that the office was a ruin, it was cold(very, very cold), and the pain was starting to hit. With it came the realization that there wasn't much else he could do. He staggered to the door of the office, stumbling over debris, and fell into the door, barely managing to catch himself, biting back a scream as his broken arm swung out. He staggered down the corridor, heading for the escape tunnel.

"Ah. Took a little fall, I see. Well, lets do something about that."

The diminutive Decepticon clambered up onto Scrapper's load, gripped the restraining wire that held the fallen Decepticons in place, and pulled with all his might. The wire snapped.

Prime waited for Skydive to revocer before continuing.

'Check your sensors, those are humans,' Prime's processors had quickly broken the code used by the pilot's radios, 'one of the decepticons must've issued false orders, break off and try to lose them.'

Plasma flared from exhaust vents as Prime fired a brust of 5 shells at Shockwave, aiming low so that missed hit the ground rather than the dam behind.

Shockwave pivoted, calculating the angles and moving away from Prime's incoming rounds. "You are late, Optimus Prime. Logic dictates that you should have arrived long before now. Perhaps some the humans that have died here today could have been saved." Bringing his gun arm up, he fired a high-powered gamma blast at the oncoming Autobot leader.

Ironhide groaned and transformed to robot mode. He creaked, squeaked, and managed to get to his feet, assessing the damage. "Definately gonna have to see Ratchet for awhile after this....." He transformed back to vehicle mode, his left front tire flat. Shifting into gear, he started towards the dam.

Shockwave's comment made Prime pause for a moment. A moment too longer. The gamma blast struck his lower left torso armour. The armour instantly began to melt while the radiation fried circuits left and right. Then the blast had past by. Prime ducked, holding a hand to the weakened section, several drops of molten metal slipped to the desert surface.

Prime's other arm whipped up, his sensors easily tracing the ionisation trail back to Shockwave, making it easy to lock on him. Several pulse blasts belched from Prime's rifle.

Lennox stopped at the entrance of the escape tunnel. He'd managed to rig his webb vest into a sling, and bandaged his head thanks to a first aid kit he'd found(although the painkiller that had been in there was woefully inadequate). "What the hell...."

The mound of rubble blocking the entrance wasn't insurmountable to somebody who hadn't been nearly blown up. Unfortunately, as Lennox had nearly been blown up, and was apparently the only surviving human left in the complex, it meant that it couldn't be insurmountable to him, either. Wincing as his broken arm shifted, he started climbing over the rubble.

Glen and the other Hoover Dam Technician's huddled in their barracks. They'd heard muffled explosions from up top. The jet was still at it. One more thump and debris fell from the sudden crack in the concrete roof along with several lights. The group ran to walls like some sort of game and plastered hard against it.

Finally the thumps seemed further away, but Glen wasn't willing to go back up and look again. Instead, he looked to the technician next to him, a middle aged man called Syler.

'Psst, Syler,' he whispered, 'give me your phone.'

'What for?' Syler's gruff voice whispered back.

'Call for help, give it' Glen's chubby hand shot out. Syler reached into a pocket and pulled his out, then paused on the verge of giving it.

'Why are we whispering?'

'Shh they might hear you,' Glen clamped a hand around Syler's mouth. But the older technician pulled it off growling ,'how on earth could they hear us down here?'

'They're not exactly from Earth, remember,' Glen hushed again, snatching the phone. Syler's eye's widened , he clamped his hands over his mouth and looked around the room.

Glen quickly dialed a number pressed call, whispering 'C'mon Maggie pick up,'
