Hopefully Nevermore and the other News mods/admins can excuse my initiative but since there have just been so many accessories for Universe 2.0, Animated, and the Movie, I figured that a specialized thread is needed to keep track of all these buggers.

To start, TFC is coming out with another accessory for Universe 2.0 Optimus Prime and/or Henkei Convoy.

TFC-005 Gear of War 2 and TFC-002 ALL SPK USB port (glowy action) (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/all-news-21/tfc-005-gear-of-war-2--tfc-002-all-spk-cube-images-167945/)

edit by Denyer:

I'm going to suggest having one thread for unofficial upgrade parts, and starting new threads for entirely original 'inspired by' new figures.

given that heavily engineered magnus add-on was $80, and that the bulk of this is repeating wall/floor tiles, that seems like a hell of a stretch... plus what is 7lbs in kilos? and in bbts shipping rates?

7 lbs is approximately 3.175 kg. As for the shipping rates, I pre-ordered it and they use UPS Ground which varies depending upon where you are.

Well, I guess this could be considered a non-Hasbro accessory:

Their stuff is top notch too from my experience. I restored an old G1 Prime with a set of stickers from there a few years ago. Some of their "upgrade" sets really pique my interests, but they can look a bit hard to apply sometimes. For me anyways, but I had a hell of a time with the stickers that came with the Allspark from the TFA accessory pack....

me too (the upgrade kits), but i've never had a double of anything id want to try and have a go with (as id be nervous of cocking it up on something i only had one of).

Different "company."

indeed *slaps self upside the head*, but the point stands.

not sure about the prime guns; from what i've seen its another 'battle rollar', in that they'll fit quite a few different prime versions (the other pic i saw had it on classics prime, so im making the assumption it'll fit at least something else too). thing is with this one is that it seems to not work with any of them, being a bit 'generic big gun'. purely a personal aesthetic thing, mind.

Right, after that shoe debacle, I'll stick to just posting in existing threads. :(

Fansproject Superion parts are now shipping. (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/transformers-movie-toys--products-30/fansproject-superion-appendage-kit-already-shipping-168045/) (These are the people that made the swish Classics Ultra Magnus armor.)

Hearts of Steel Prime (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/all-news-21/mmc01-knight-morpher-commander-heart-of-steel-optimus-168044/) will apparently be plastic cast instead of resin, and you can have the kit assembled for you. (This is a one-man operation, I think.)

They are also releasing the gun and shoulder-missiles (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=FPJ10008&mode=retail) as a set by themselves for the people that own the first release of the armor.

No complaints here! I think buying for investment's a risky enough proposition with this crowd alright though. But I'd say the value will remain high enough in the future on these things anyway. Although next we'll probably see a lime green repaint, followed by the yellow with purple trim one!

Agreed. While I can understand it being collectible, and I have found myself looking at Ebay to see what a City Commander set is going for, I also understand the chances of me selling mine at any point is highly unlikely. More likely than not that if I did I'd sell it the same time the whole world loses interest, and it would do me no good. I bought mine to have for myself, and I usually don't by two of anything anyway. If a few more get made so that a few more of the masses can enjoy having one for a decent price, cool with me.

And all investments are risks, to some degree. Just how it is.

I hate to sound like a miserable sod, but it strikes me that a fairly-large chunk of the trailer doesn't actually, well, do anything.

Unlike the City Commander trailer, much of which is actually fitted onto the figure, it looks to me that only the roof of the Protector trailer becomes armour and the rest turns into some kind of weapons platform.

Think I'll have to wait until we see some colour, for me to make up my mind on this... so far, it's rather underwhelming compared to their latest releases, and even the City Commander trailer that came before it.

IMO anything they can do to make the Rodimus figure better has got to be worth buying. It can only be an improvement over the somewhat pants and overpriced classics mould.
I would say the legends version would be the better one.

Same here. I don't want to pay extra money for a useless trailer converting to a weapon platform. I just want an awesome Rod.

For the color prediction, how much will he change away from red, yellow, and orange? I don't think so. Maybe add in more black.

Hmm, maybe...

But here's a thought that's worrying me a little -- this trailer has been largely, if quietly anticipated since FansProject released the first mockup pictures some monthes ago, but what if, now that they've released the prototype photos, people start loosing interest due to the trailer largely being a battle station, like the original Gen1 Rodimus?

Granted, they can depend on sales from completists, and the fact that that it is an homage might be a draw for Gen1 collectors. Also, the fact that only so many will be produced will shield them from incurring too big a financial loss, but what will FansProject do if the rest of their fanbase decide not to pick it up? They could stand to lose a lot of money.

I'm liking this. The head doesn't look exactly like Rodimus, and there is a lot of unused trailer, but I still dig it. I'm curious how much it will end up being (guessing it will be ballpark what City Commander was). Hopefully I will be able to save enough money for it, and my wife will actually let me get it.

My question on these items is this: What happens with the resale value? Not just in the couple months after release because everyone wants it, but after a few years. Are these things re-sellable at a profit, or do they typically fade into obscurity?
Personally, I can't justify paying that kind of money to spruce up a toy. For that kind of money, I could probably make something similar myself (or, if I wanted it to look nice, hire Clay to do it for me).

Their first set (a new head and bumper for Cliffjumper with some guns) sold for $30 or so, and is now several hundred. The Ultra Magnus kit started at $80 or so and ballooned from there. I don't know the typical price, but the demand was such that they re-released it with the missile launchers and the gun included.

I haven't paid much attention to the trailer for Classics Prime, so I don't know its story. I have the Superion parts kit (which is very nice!), but I haven't followed it to see if it's a sell out or not.

With the Rodimus kit, I'd imagine it will do very well as it does 'complete' the toy, if not to the extent that the Ultra Magnus kit did. I think it will be more sought after than the Prime trailer, for sure.

Same here. I don't want to pay extra money for a useless trailer converting to a weapon platform. I just want an awesome Rod.

It's not useless - it's an homage! (http://tfu.info/1986/Autobot/RodimusPrime/rodimusprime.htm)

Homages excuse everything - repaints of Cybertron figures, lack of articulation in modern figures, Animated, the lot. Indeed, if you can also namedrop whoever was responsible for said homage, you win the internet.

I guess the problem with resale value is it's a lottery - if there's huge demand, I suspect Fansproject or similar would have no problem just doing a second run (even, like Magnus, making the new one better). IIRC the Cliffjumper one was announced as limited edition and they've kept to that, but I think most of their projects since haven't been. I suspect that's always going to be in the back of a lot of prospective buyers' minds, and if you can be sure of one thing it's that however cool something is, Transformers fans won't stump up for it if there's half a chance it might be avaliable slightly cheaper at some undetermined point in the future. Because most of them are more concerned with not spending more than fellow Transformers fans on something than actually having something cool.

I guess that's what's mostly bothering me about this, that it is an homage, and doesn't offer much other than upgrading Hotrod's look to that of Rodimus Prime. I'll admit that it does that particularly well, but it's lacking the factor that drew me into going to such lengths to acquire the City Commander trailer that I did. Namely, that the set not only brought a much-needed upgrade to the toy, but in a sense also updated the look of the character of Ultra Magnus.

For me at least, the Protector trailer is lacking in that it only updates the toy, and does little for Rodimus's character. Although, personally, I don't remember there being all that much of a character to update; the way I remember him, Rodimus was little more than a self-piteous git who spent his time jumping to conclusions and whining about how he could never truly fill Optimus's shoes, instead of actually making a concerted effort to do something about it. Needless to say, I can't say I liked him very much.

Feel free to correct me, within reason, if I'm misinformed as to Roddy's aparent uselessness; I'll admit that I didn't get to read any of the Marvel comics material, much less those stories which featured Rodimus as a major player, and most of my views on his character are based on my impressions of the Season 3 run of the original G1 series. My views and statements above are likely to rattle a few cages, yes, but that's the impression that I get.

I get what you're saying with the toys - Ultra Magnus' original Classics toy didn't look like Ultra Magnus. They can do the white Prime thing as much as they like, but I don't think anyone truly thinks that it's what Ultra Magnus looks like, and in this respect the City Commander set works so well because it makes the toy look like Ultra Magnus as opposed to a half-arsed Optimus Prime recolour.

Whereas Rodimus is less visually distinct - his robot mode is largely Hot Rod but a bit bigger (especially in any media where the kibble's compacted down), and his vehicle mode is Hot Rod with a box on the back.

I think the difference for me is that if you have an upgraded Magnus next to, say, Classics Prime on the shelf they're going to look like two quite different figures. If you have Rodimus and Hot Rod next to each other Rodimus is going to look like Hot Rod wearing platforms and a bit of armour (Victory Rodimus?). I'm not blaming Fansproject for that, it would just knock the appeal of this set for me.

True, but the other variable to consider is that there are many more Rodimus toys than Ultra Magnus toys. Even if the appeal of the add-on kit is somewhat more limited, the buying pool is much larger. If they produce 2000 kits on the first run like the Magnus armor, they may do just fine even if fewer people are vocal about wanting one.

...it's less dramatic a change to the figure...

My case and point precisely, Cliffy, in so many words.

I hope that it does do well, for FansProject's sake. But until I see some colour on it, I'm not terribly sure that it'll find it's way on to my 'want' list of FansProject add-ons. That, and I can never seem to find a cheap Hot Rod to start with...

To be honest, Rodimus Prime never seemed to be a huge visual departure from Hot Rod in the first place. He was taller, and his alt mode made him look like a mobile home, but otherwise Rodimus Prime wasn't too distinct from Hot Rod. So if anything, this Fansproject add-on is in keeping with that.

Besides, if the add-on ended up making Rodimus look wildly different, fans would be crying foul anyway.

I just got the Rodimus toy in yesterday. He is quite a bit smaller than I expected, but about on par with the G1 size. The toy is a nice representation of the character, but not what I expected for $75 USD. Mind you, I was not collecting TFs when the toy came out, and Astrotrain is about the last Classic figures I still want to get, that and a nice Ramjet. (the one I have now was lined in a Macross marker from the previous owner)

I will buy the trailer set because I do like the Superion add on set as well as the City Commander set. I do not like the weapon they have from the test shots. Looks kind of lame. Then again, I was not a huge fan of the rifle with fins. Whooosh....I'm gonna shoot you now Galvatron....

That does look an awesome set - it almost makes Rodimus Prime look cool!

It doesn't have the same G1 design quality that made the Ultra Magnus add-on so essential though.

(Of course, G1 design fidelity would make a Rodimus Prime add-on totally udesireable... Catch-22.)

I do like that they've tried to make Rodimus into something more than a taller Hot Rod with a block of a gun station.

Still, this one's not for me.

I am guessing the yellow flames will eventually come onto the trailer...or at least, we can hope for it.

Seeing as they use a Henkei Rodimus and with the red of the trailer matching the red of Henkei Rodimus...I kind of doubt that the red from the later mold (The one in the three-pack with Cyclones and Galvatron) wont exactly match...Henkei Rodimus uses a darker red then the Three-pack Rodimus.

There are Smartphone apps that you take a photo of something on your phone, tell it what you want to color match, and it spits out the color code for you. As long as they can get their hands on one they can color match it in a few moments. I use one at work on occasion when we need new paint for walls.

Currently I have eyes on two completely different Classics Hotrods on the Bay of E, though I'm almost certain to lose both of them due to people being willing to pay absurd amounts in the last 30secs in order to just WIN an auction, which I am not.

If I can't lay hands on a Hotrod, regardless of its condition, I'm not going to put in a preorder for the Protector/Sidearm set.

At first I wasn't sold on any of it and thought the trailer was a bit of a rip, cashing in on something simply because it WOULD sell... but after picking up Defender earlier during the year and already having City Commander, my OCD and the completist in me got together and basically threw a shitfit as December rolled around... so now I'm seriously looking into the possibility of picking the set up.

Eh, ignore me. I'm just venting and figured this is the place to do it.

I'd have picked up Classics Hotrod when it was first released, but alas, as was the case with most of the figures in the Classics line, I was without the money or the means to pick it up.

You're not wrong dude, but the Protector will be released soon, barring unforseen delays, and after it is released, the price of the Classics Hotrod figure will take off like a damn rocket, just like the Magnus figure did when FansProject first released the City Commander. Better to get in on the act now while the prices are still, relatively-speaking, within tollerable ranges.

Soon as the Protector is released and it starts selling out, people will be wanting crazy money for the original Hotrod figure MISB or even loose-in-hand; give it a few months, and suddenly they'll start asking whatever the hell they feel like, even if the figure looks like they threw it in a blender, and people desperate enough will part with the cash, just like they did and still do for the Classics Magnus.

And don't even get me started on the bootlegs this thing will churn out. Once the demand gets heated, the bootleggers will have a field day - with the Protector and Classics Hotrod.

The auction I was keeping eyes on ended about an hour ago, and I managed to square away the win, so I'm feeling a lot less stressed about the whole thing now; all that remains is to put in my pre-order for the Protector/Sidearm, which I'll likely do once I hear from the seller to confirm payment and shipment.

Don't know what the hell happened to the other bidders during the last half-hour of the auction - they drove the price up to 26.50 (around $40), and then suddenly they all stopped bidding, and I just kinda waited for that last-minute scramble where suddenly there are six people driving the price up for the last 10-15 seconds, which never came.

I'm surprised I won, actually. I certainly wasn't expecting to, and was already looking into other options when the email came through telling me I'd won, and I was like, "Oh... okay... o_O; What just happened?"

Seller's up in London and I live in South Wales, so hopefully I should have the figure in-hand within the next few days or so, end of next week at the latest.

Also, anyone hear any whisperings of an actual release date? After the Crossfire 02 affair, I'm antsy to have a more concrete idea of when this thing will start shipping than 'End of December'. I thought they said it'd be out in-time for Christmas?

Honestly, I like Bludgeon's official head better. Since he's not a Pretender anymore it doesn't really make sense for him to have an organic skull as a face, and the head that Hasbro gave him makes him look like a robotic skeleton. I like it, anyway. The new weapons look really nice though.

Did the Hardhead set (http://headrobots.com/?p=258) they made a while back ever get posted here? I thought that was a pretty cool upgrade.

I hate to say it, but the Bludgeon one looks terrible. Sure, it looks just like he did in the comic, but it doesn't gel one bit with the rest of the figure; it's like bunging Classics Bumblebee's head on the '07 Movie Deluxe. - it might result in a better head design, but that doesn't mean it works with the toy. Personally I thought ROTF Bludgeon made a good fist of retaining a lot of Bludgeon's Pretender shell (fun fact: Bludgeon himself doesn't look anything like his shell, which was presumably added very late in his life - it's not like anyone expects Grimlock to look like his Pretender shell) without looking too silly.

While I'm less of a follower of Vange1us than I am of, say, Peaugh and Optibotimus, I'll keep my criticisims of his reviewing style to myself for the sake of not p*ssing on the bees' nest, as it were.

Make of this review what you will.

In the meantime, does this mean the release will be happening soon? Food for thought. :]

He does. Right here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI7e4xBggrA

This set still not fully convince me as the Bruticus upgrade. Now I even think they should just make a new mode instead of using the classics Hot Rod as the base. Maybe still the trailer that draws me down.

BBTS will have them soon, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they don't already have them same as TFsource. You'll notice they say they haven't even unpacked them yet and it will take a few days to process orders. Possibly just a tactic to steal a few more last minute pre-orders from other retailers for those in hopes of getting this a little quicker. Not hating on them for it, I would do the same thing.

Well that's nice and stuff, but I wish they'd just hurry up and start shipping the damn things already. We had 8 inches of snow last night, it's a week to frikkin' Christmas, and it's going to take its time getting here as it is.

***sakes, just post my damn preorder already!

...

Yes, I'm impatient. Deal with it - I have to.

EDIT:
Hmm... Seems they heard me ranting. They shipped out my order nearly an hour ago (00:09GMT), though USPS doesn't have it yet. Fixed it so USPS emails me when there's any kind of progress. I can stop pacing now. :D

Here's hoping the snow clears a bit tomorrow so they can get the airports open for Monday...

Pretty nifty IMO. I'm generally impressed with the 'upgrade' bits being offered these days; just ordered one of these (http://tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/1835/) to round out Rodimus.

Probably asking in completely the wrong thread, but has anyone heard anything about a release date for the CorbotV War Axe, for WFC Prime?

...Actually, has anyone even mentioned that accessory here? I can't find anything about it on a search of the forum...

As far as I know it released a few days ago.

Generally things like this will crop up in the sponsor news threads, since those stores carry unofficial accessories. In this case, BBTS list it as in stock as per Thunderwave's link, TFSource currently have it as a preorder -- http://www.tfsource.com/products/view/product_id/1914/

They do seem to be cheaper on shipping to the UK, judging by the quotes I was getting earlier.

Hmm... Just been over to TFSource, to see if they'd had stock in on the War Axe. They haven't, and don't seem to be in a terrible hurry about it. This does not bode well for my preorder.

Also, my FansProject Protector / Sidearm still hasn't arrived yet. I have emails confirming that it was posted out on Dec 18th, and was shipped out of the US on Dec 20th. It is now Jan 2nd and, holidays and bad weather not withstanding, it has not yet arrived.

I have contacted TFSource, they tell me that I needn't worry, but I should probably check in with the apropriate customs website and have my tracking/customs number to hand (Directions, please?).

On the same day, I also sent a carefully-worded email to Royal Mail/The Post Office, politely asking them if they'd be so kind as to update me on the status and location of my package, seeing as its status on their tracking system hasn't changed from 'ADVISED' in 10 days; they haven't currently taken the time to send me even an automated response.

All-in-all, one might say that I could fit quite snuggly into that thorny little nishe labled 'Rather F***in' Concerned'.

Shipping outside the US usually takes 3 weeks when hollidays are involved.

Given the week or so backlog for weather coupled with multiple bank holidays, I'm not really expecting the package I ordered about a week later (Firebolt / WST Shockwave) via USPS First Class in the first half of January.

Even with Priority RM aren't very good about filling out tracking at their end, unless there's a customs charge incurred.

There've been, what, seven, eight working days since the 20th. Mind, a bunch of G.I. Joe figures I paid for on the 19th from an American seller arrived in my hands on Thursday. This is probably due to me being awesome. Or the seller liking me because I bought three barely recoloured G.I. Joe figures off them for a daft price (albeit a lot less than some platform shoes for Hot Rod). Or the shipping being something like US $40, which probably covers having some hot chick waterski them across the Atlantic on boxing day.

TF Club 2011 stuff, including two parts of Devastator (http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/3rd-party-unlicensed-41/upcoming-2011-tfclub-products-revealed-171169/)

Colour me surprised -- one of the things RM put a card through yesterday was this. Shame the WST Shockwave mould is a piece of shit with the arms hanging loose, but it'll probably fix up when I have time.

Protector arrived in the post this morning - and thank f*** for that. God knows that's a weight of my shoulders.

Awesome little bit of kit, actually. Still every bit as wary of breaking something as was necessary with the City Commander, regardless of what the reviewers have been saying - it's more the chestpiece than anything, don't know why.

Also, Sidearm/Not-Firebolt = PURE WIN.

Mmm, the high pressure caused by non-instant transatlantic toy shipping really is a cross to bear.

Strangely, I'm really liking the new upgrade sticker set Reprolabels have put out for Metroplex.
