Cybertron was a glorious jewel, once. It was the hub of an entire solar system, birthplace of a culture that has expanded from star to star. It was a beacon of order and civilization...but it has fallen. Its' oppressive government holds the world in an iron fist, stifling the free flow of trade, the free movement of people and even the free exchange of information and ideas.

The heart of the regime is the massive city-state called Iacon. A city that wallows in its' ill-gotten wealth and prosperity, Iacon is the capital of Cybertron and the home of the uncaring tyrant Zeta Prime. His minions, the Autobots, crack down on dissent while his priests peddle ancient myths as truth and a veritable army of technocrats use the machinery of government to enforce the status quo.

But there is hope.

In the hard-working, long-marginalized city-state of Kaon, a visionary leader called Megatron has been handed the mantle of leadership. He and his Decepticon followers have liberated Kaon, tossing Zeta Prime's corrupt minions out of power even as they welcome free-thinkers, revolutionaries and non-conformists into their midst.

No one in Kaon wants to see a war, but as the reprisals of Zeta Prime and his followers grow larger and larger, can it possibly be avoided?

Main Spaceport, Kaon

Lugnut flexed his fingers and balled his hands into fists, instinctively working his joints to keep his energon circulating. He recognized the habit for what it was: a relic of the years he'd spent in an Altihex prison, almost always in chains because he was too violent for the guards to deal with otherwise. It had never been them that he was mad at, of course. They'd just been cogs in the machine, but the machine had sentenced him to be transported in stasis to an unsettled pebble of rock fifty light-years away from Cybertron and he'd been understandably angry. Unlike many of his fellow inmates, Lugnut had never let himself become resigned to his fate and he'd never bowed to the pressure to cooperate with the guards to make things a bit easier on himself. He'd always held out hope that he'd be able to escape his fate, but that hope had become fainter and fainter as time went on.

Then Megatron came.

When the Decepticon leader freed Lugnut and his comrades, he'd treated them like people. Like equals. The Autobots had never done that. And he'd forgiven their past sins, offered them sanctuary in Kaon and a chance to rebuild their lives. Like most of the prisoners, Lugnut had jumped at the chance.

But while most of the prisoners had only had their own best interests at heart and had quickly found whatever niche could enrich them most quickly, Lugnut found himself a changed mech. No one had ever given him a chance before, not the way Megatron had. It was...inspirational, so much so that Lugnut had sworn himself into his saviour's service right then and there.

Which was what had led him here: standing in Kaon's main spaceport, proudly wearing his brand-new Decepticon badge as he waited for a pair of random scientists that he was supposed to escort to his master. It wasn't exactly what he'd had in mind when he'd taken his vow.

Lugnut chuckled and looked down at his comrades. "Well, at least it beats jail..."

As usual, Jetfire was a bit disoriented as he fell out of the experimental space bridge. Side-effects were only to be expected, though. The technology fundamentally wasn't meant for what they were using it for. Short-range hops on Cybertron's surface, sure. Even jaunts from planet to planet. But interstellar travel? Even though he'd made the trip several times now, the idea still seemed flatly ridiculous to him.

As his sensors realigned, he realized that the nearest relay satellite was beaming a comm signal to him.

"That's strange, Starscream," he transmitted to his friend and senior research partner. "I'm getting a signal from the planetary comm-net. Apparently our landing has been redirected to Kaon."

Predacon looked down on his creation with pride, arrogance and just a tiny bit of spite. In the year since he'd come to Kaon, he'd made more progress in the field of technogenetics than he'd ever dreamed of in his entire career. But unlike the stifling, dogmatic academia that dominated Iacon and the other Church-run city-states, the environment of Kaon was one that actually encouraged innovation rather than stamping down on it because it was forbidden in a ridiculously old work of fiction that some poor fools took to be the word of their imaginary god.

But now, unshackled by the establishment's ridiculous ethics, Predacon was finally free. Free to learn all he wanted to learn. Free to research what he wanted to research.

Free to create what he wanted to create.

That was the part that really scared the tired old monks that vainly tried to control the world, he knew. They knew that Predacon and his ilk were close to a score of different breakthroughs, breakthroughs that could fundamentally improve the Cybertronian form of life. And the thought that mere mortals could create something greater than their fictional divinity...that was something they just couldn't tolerate.

But it was done. The physical changes were the easy part. There had been experiments for ages, delving into how to give Transformers more than one alternate mode. His predecessors had even created a few successful test subjects, among the hundreds and hundreds of poor saps that they'd rendered catatonic or schizophrenic along the way. But they'd always come at it from the wrong direction. They'd always tried to give new alt-modes to someone that was always alive.

In retrospect, it was all so obvious. The problem wasn't one of hardware. It was one of software. And the easiest way to fix the problem was before it became a problem, by changing the very building blocks of Transformer life.

The thought was so deliciously heretical that Predacon liked to think that somewhere, a Keeper was bursting into flames at the mere thought of it.

But it was done, and the time had come to bring his creation to life. All he needed now were the troops that Megatron had promised...

Finback manipulated the controls of his hover chair tiredly.

This was his last hope the rust was spreading and the medics did not give him long. He'd been drawn to Kaon due to it's reputation of it's scientists. Scientists whose minds were untrammeled by the dogma of the church.

Slowly he traversed the corridor scanning the doors for the name of the scientist that was pioneering the work that might save his life.

Nondescript Construction Site, Kaon

Being a mechanically-based species, Cybertronians generally undertook construction into their own hands instead of relying on other machines. It was grueling work, however, which was why only the lower castes are usually conscripted into manual labour.

One particular construction vehicle rumbling across the site, however, was decidedly not of the lower caste.

Scorponok was a large being, easily twice the size of the average Cybertronian. While most other construction vehicles are blocky affairs with compact construction peripherals attached to them, Scorponok was more than just another articulated brick.

Sprouting from the front of his rather bulky main torso were two gigantic shovels, in stark contrast to the single shovels everyone else had. He rolled forwards on the treads that sprouted from the side of his body. Curling up from the back was something that resembled a tail, a probe of some sort, a sharp stinger-like cannon on the tip of the tail, pointing forwards.

Deftly manipulating his shovels as if they were arms, Scorponok lifted a girder thrice his length without much effort and began the monotonous task of rolling towards another part of the site, to attach the girder where it was supposed to be. A part of the supporting exostructure of the warehouse.

The warehouse was so plain and boxy and disgustingly ugly.

Scorponok was tempted to open fire with the electric cannon disguised as a welding torch on the tip of his tail.

He hated this. Mere weeks ago, he had been lounging in the best entertainment areas of Cybertron, drinking high-grade, refined Energon with the likes of Decimus and Avalon. Being the owner of one of the greatest construction firms on Cybertron, as well as a xenobiology research lab, along with other types of firms, had been very profitable for Scorponok. He even had time to dabble in politics.

How did it go wrong?

Ah, yes. There was a bunch of political enemies. It was complicated, but the bottom line is that one by one his assets were shut down. Scorponok grew more and more desperate.

At one point he had told one of his construction workers — what was that midget's name? Brawn? — to screw regulations and use some inferior materials. He had the gall to complain! And to the authorities, at that. Investigations were made, inquiries were done. Bottom line, Scorponok had fallen from grace.

He had the sense to hide some resources in other accounts, of course. A lot of them. Stocks, hidden caches, accounts under false names and everything. And a quick alternate-mode change from a bulky jet form that he hardly ever used wasn't even much of a problem. He had not entered the political scene blindly. But the fact is that a majority of his assets are now annexed by the government.

Scorponok clenched his shovels at this rage, causing two large dents on the girder he was carrying. Now he was forced to go into hiding (in one of his own construction sites. Hiding in the most obvious places) while his lawyers sort matters out with the authorities. By the time those bloodsuckers are done, though, Scorponok would've been better off just paying whatever the authorities want him to pay. But then he would have to contend with his political enemies. And investigators. Better to just disappear for a couple of months.

In retrospect, picking a cover in Kaon had been good. Kaon was the most downtrodden town in Cybertron. A sprawling nest of industrial failures that still tries to stand up on crippled legs. Filled to the brim with the dredges of society. No one would look for a wealthy politician like Scorponok there. But he had to work, else he would arouse suspicion. While he was no stranger to physical work, and his immense strength meaning that it wasn't much effort, it irritated Scorponok.

"Shouldn't have bothered with this."

Scorponok transformed, rising into his full height and dropping the girder to the ground with a heavy clang. Plates shifted and joints rotated as he assumed his towering robot form. The shovels ended up as his hands, massive claws that clenched open and close regularly almost like breathing. Complaints and angry retorts rose around him (the workers, stupid as they are, had not recognized Scorponok with the little physical changes) but Scorponok ignored them as he stalked away from the construction site, a scowl etched onto his face.

He almost always stalked. Large, pillar-like feet moving with a grace and confidence and an unnatural quietness that had been perfected over years of living in the high end. There was a slight hunch, in part instinctive due to Scorponok's immense height forcing him to hunch otherwise he would knock his head on the ceiling every time he navigated in a building, and in part to allow his tail weapon to be able to aim forwards easily if needed to. The scowl, meanwhile, had been Scorponok's standard expression. A slight, displeased scowl as if everyone in the world had disappointed him in some manner.

Which, when he thought about it, was the case.

He supposed that he could have been a better being if he so chooses. He could've been one of the Autobot Elite Guard. Or maybe a philanthropist. Or maybe pursue his scientific passion in xenobiology and microtechnology. He always liked to experiment with technology, seeing what could be done. But-

"Hey, you big lug nut! Where th' fraggin' Pit d'you think yer goin'?"

Scorponok glared to his right, his orange optic band narrowing over the ridge of his nose. The speaker was a short mech, barely reaching over Scorponok's knee. Scorponok did not deign to answer this little fool who had addressed him — ignorance is hardly a crime. And at least he was earning his paycheck properly.

"I'm talkin' to you, ya big ugly piece of tin! Wha' d'you think yer doin' with those girders?"

"I am just taking a walk." Scorponok growled, his deep, baritone voice cold and dangerous.

"Yeh? Then walk right back t' work, porthole, 'cause we ain't earnin' no energon walkin' around! Bad enough tha' we have to smuggle materials to th' Tarnian senators, but-"

Scorponok's optic band narrowed even further and his scowl was replaced with an angry grimace. The expression looked so simply furious that the fool who just unwittingly revealed his little betrayal immediately shut up and reeled backwards in fear.

Rage took over then. Scorponok swiped forwards with one massive claw, catching the poor, screaming mech on one feet, a loud clang that reverberated across the site. As the swing reached its apex, Scorponok let go and tossed the traitor onto a stack of girders. The impact was a satisfying crash that should've broken something, but the pile of girders collapsed on the poor fool.

Other workers watched as the dust settled, too confused to realize what had happened, and Scorponok chose that moment to stalk away. Stupid, losing his temper like that. While the little traitor deserved to die, it did raise a worrying point. No one could survive making a clean living like this while the people above wallow in grandeur.

Something needs to be done. But what could he, a fallen politician, possibly do?

Trying to drown the bad taste that the murder had imparted, Scorponok walked towards Kaon's Polytechnic Institute. His good... acquaintance Predacon worked there. Perhaps some experimenting might keep his head off things...

Clench paced around, nervous about what his next step should be. His future had been planned out. He had worked his way up through the Kaon political structure, step by step, learning who could be bought, who to befriend, etc.

He stopped and looked out his office window. He could see it in his mind, so close, but futile now. He had sunk a large portion of his wealth into a campaign to become govenor of Kaon. He wasn't a favorite, at that point, but he had a lot of momentum. It had been possible.

And then he came along... Megatron. The guy attracted followers easily, something Clench was not near as good at doing. He rose to power so quickly, Clench's dream of becoming govenor was shattered, and so many credits wasted. It left a bitter taste in his mouth.

Clench resumed his pacing, trying to determine his next move.

The Gauntlet, Kaon

"Grim-lock! Grim-lock! Grim-lock!"

The crowd chanted his name. Grimlock charged forwards, thick, powerful arms lashing out at his first opponent. The sheer force of the impact caved the chestplate in, and the mech made a sick gurgling noise as he stumbled backwards. Grimlock followed it with a swift jab to the head, completely caving in the face, shearing off the smooth exoskeleton and exposing the circuity beneath.

The mech screamed, the crowd cheered.

Grimlock plowed on, landing an uppercut onto the next opponent, listening to a satisfying crack and snap as several polymers and cables that secured the neck to the chassis were overextended. In a swift move, Grimlock laid onto the third opponent with a savage hammerblow, knocking him to the ground. He kicked him, just to make sure he stays down.

Grimlock turned around from the three opponents to see a fresh wave of challengers come in. He shook his head. Grimlock pounded his fists together and let out a deep, animalistic roar. He charged forwards, with surprising control over his massive, bulky form. While he would never be able to do complex maneuvers, Grimlock had enough sense of balance to be able to use his mass effectively instead of simply lumbering and barreling through enemies.

In addition to his already considerable strength, he also had battle instincts, honed from years of fighting. When he got close enough he lashed out, thick fingers finding purchase on a gladiator, and with ease tossed him as a makeshift missile at the head of an opponent that towered over even Grimlock. While some transformers have their own wacky styles of fighting, Grimlock has something much more simpler and effective.

Always go for the head.

Some people do funky things like disabling motor sensors or crippling the enemy or whatnot, but Grimlock's style, if it could be called that, involved slamming things (preferably his fist) at people's heads or failing that, slamming people's heads at things.

Which was what he did then, picking his last opponent by his foot and swinging him like a club, slamming his head onto the edge of the battlefield. It was crushed, the skull caving in and black energon spluttering out.

The crowd cheered.

Grimlock roared again, shaking his fists into the air. Inwardly he hated having to fight others for entertainment. But the pay was good, and it was a nice exhaust for his violence and bloodlust. Where else can an engine of destruction like Grimlock find a niche in the ordered society of the Golden Age?

It wasn't always like this. Grimlock used to be a field commander, a soldier. He didn't have vivid memories of his life prior to that- he always remembered fighting, moving from one battle to the next. He served under Kup, under Obsidian, under Strika, during the old wars. He still remembered the battles, the explosions, the fervor that always overtook him everytime he was deployed into the field.

"Me Grimlock KING!" He roared, the catchphrase the crowd was waiting for. The crowd roared even louder.

Grimlock still remembered the bullet that slammed home onto the base of his forehead, little above his optic band. It was during one of the skirmishes with a group of rabid techno-organics that still populate Cybertron's lower levels. When he woke up, the medic told him that the quasi-biological attack had corrupted the part of his brain that controlled speech, and fixing it would prove too expensive and at the same time dangerous.

Grimlock would have refused the operation anyway even if he had the money. Speaking like a caveman had always led enemies to underestimate him, grouping him with your average thug that were dumber than rocks. Grimlock was far from stupid. While no rocket scientist, Grimlock was very intelligent, and more than capable to utilize his faulty speech to lead others to underestimate his cunning.

Still, battles had grown stale lately. Grimlock had only not won once — against the undefeatable champion, the one they call Megatron. But other than that there have been little that had even began to threaten Grimlock..

-And they say these gladiatorial fights are dangerous. Fah! There's no one here that can challenge me.-

Grimlock wanted to say that last sentence, but what came out was, "No one can beat me Grimlock!"

The announcer seized this moment to rile the crowd. "Did you hear that, folks? Your favourite King Grimlock demands a challenge! Now we shall see how he stands against our newest challenges. Place your bets, gentlemen, we have.... the Deathbringers of Urayaaaaa!"

Grimlock turned around, optics narrowing, as drones pulled the fallen bodies aside. Doors opened, and a new set of enemies charged out. Grimlock charged at them, roaring, bloodlust taking over.

Main Spaceport, Kaon

Skywarp teleported as often as he could. Despite his internal teleporter taking quite an amount of energy every time it was utilized, Skywarp didn't much care. He valued his freedom too much after confinement.

Plus, suddenly popping out, crouching, in a swirl of black and purple and the odd crackle of electricity always freaked people out.

When Skywarp was moving at a fast speed, like in his alternate mode, his teleportation manifested in tiny portals that ripped apart space. But when he was stationary or close to it, the portal manifested within him instead.

The physics involved was too complex for Skywarp to comprehend, nor does he want to.

He can teleport. It was second nature.

Which was what he did. Walking out of the Gauntlet after seeing King Grimlock clobber a bunch of losers — Grimlock was a good fighter, but nothing compared to his leader Megatron — he vanished in a swirl of blacks and purples.

He reappeared, crouching, next to Lugnut in time to catch the larger mech's words. "True. This beats jail a thousandfold." Skywarp jerked a thumb at the newly painted Decepticon insignias, emblazoned boldly upon the wings that sprouted over his shoulders.

Skywarp found he liked Lugnut. Along with his fellow Seeker-model Thrust, Lugnut had been among the group of criminals slated for off-world exile. All for a bunch of relatively harmless pranks. Sure, he caused a lot of collateral damage, but no one got killed until the police intervened.

That wasn't really excuse to send him to rust in some barren rock.

He remembered the feeling of hopelessness, of the energon manacles that clamped his hands together, the inhibitor claw on his back preventing him from transforming or teleporting, the metallic gag placed over his mouth because he won't shut up, the roughness of the guards as they shoved him against Lugnut...

Megatron as he freed them...

Like Lugnut, Skywarp had also immediately pledged allegiance to Megatron. Megatron was smart, Megatron was powerful, he's make of leader stuff. A worthy one for Skywarp to follow. Better to have direction than to blow up mess up spaceport radars and shoot out neon lamps, after all.

Plus, the Decepticons wanted to destroy the Autobots. Out of spite, Skywarp had immediately agreed.

"What've our leader assigned us to again? I wasn't paying attention."

Thrust was never the most eloquent. He was, at his best of moments, a jerk. At his worst, he was a thug for hire, not caring as long as he got paid. One of his last jobs had gotten him in trouble with the Autobots. His punishment was to be sent away from Cybertron on the same ship as Lugnut and Skywarp.

When Megatron came and freed them, Thrust was thankful, and more than a little ready for some revenge. He had been content to stick with ruffing up the odd bot for payment. Now his talents were going to be used in much better fashion, even if it wasn't on this particular mission.

Thrust dove in beside Skywarp, pulling up as he approached the ground and transformed. "From what I heard, this is a baby-sitting mission. Not much action."

Kaon, Penthouse

Deathsaurus leaned back in his chair, and looked out onto the city. It was difficult to find a good view in Kaon, but next to the governor's palace, he had the best. The city was flawed, but he was working towards improving it. He serpent a lot of money on urban renewal programs, and had set up most of his factories to reduce pollution. No point owning a ruined city, after all.

More than anything else, however, hope for Kaon rest in Megatron. Deathsaurus paid little attention to the gladiator games, content to let Clench keep control of that area, but once Megatron started getting political, Deathsaurus was drawn in. Megatron had ideals and charisma, but outside of the arena, he had little influence. That's where Deathsaurus came in. By focusing just a little bit of attention on Megatron, Deathsaurus had gotten the name out there. Then, all he had to do was sit back and wait for Megatron's natural charm to do its work. When Megatron decided to run for governor, Deathsaurus was there. He donated money, supplied venues, hired a campaign staff; everything he could to ensure Megatron's election.

Deathsaurus had no idea why the boy's idealism impressed him so, but it seemed to be just what Kaon needed.

Space, Approaching Cybertron
Sky-Byte strolled onto the bridge of the Sharp Edge. His exploratory mission had been a success; his crew had found a resource planet near enough to be cost-effective. A job well done, albeit unsatisfying to do. But soon he would be home, and then he would receive another commendation. He liked commendations. When we reached the front of the bridge, he twirled around to the crew and spread his arms wide, "Friends! An excellent performance from all of you. You've been a pleasure to work with, and I thank you for the lack of mutiny. As a special reward for your outstanding service, you're all invited to drinks on me!" He allowed a second for gratitude, "But use a coaster please. I stain." Gaping silence. "A-hem. Well, anyway, I'll meet you all at dock for debriefing."

Kaon Polytechnic Institute

Scorponok stalked towards the large, imposing building of the Kaon Polytechnic Institute. He had to crouch to enter the transparent doors made from a steel-silicon polymer, dulled over the years of exposure to Kaon's environment. Scorponok supposed at one point the building might have been grand, but as with everything else on Kaon it had lost much of its lustre.

The fallen Senator crouched even more than usual to admit himself through the doors — why do people construct doors so low when the interior of the building was much higher? — and scowled when the tip of his tail slammed against the top of the wall, adding to the collection of dents on the poor building.

The staff ignored Scorponok. Those that knew his frequent arrivals to meet Predacon knew that he was a studied mech despite his brutish exterior, while the others were scared because of it.

He saw a sickly rust-covered wretch in a hover chair (Finback) and winced. While he was no stranger to fights, as a Senator living in the high rise Scorponok never had to deal with diseases like these. Someone should put that poor slagger out of his misery.

Scorponok stalked through the corridors, making very little noise considering his bulk. Mechs steered clear of his way, and Scorponok allowed himself to indulge in a little smile as he veered towards the Advanced Research Laboratories. Predacon must be in there, experimenting on some weird technology. Techno-organic bodies, perhaps. Or Transfrmers six times smaller than the norm. Or even more radical forms of mass-shifting.

Scorponok raised a claw and rapped the knuckle against the door several times. "Predacon, it's me."

"Grow up." Lugnut growled at Skywarp's antics, and the other Decepticon's seeming lack of interest in paying attention to what the glorious Megatron had told them to do. He considered cuffing the smaller Decepticon upside the head, but assumed he would just teleport out of the way.

"We are here to collect two scientists," he agreed with Thrust. "There will only be action if we can't convince them to come with us. If they don't..." He shrugged his massive shoulders. "If they don't, well, that's what we've got a teleporter for."

Megatron instinctively looked up from the report he was reading as Venom's call came through. Truth be told, the Decepticon leader was glad for the interruption. The preparations for Kaon and her allies' formal succession -- which Venom's speech would announce -- were well underway, now. But even though his departments had taken on a life of their own, there were still mountains of paperwork that needed his signature and only so much of that could be put off or delegated.

He opened the file that Venom had sent him, and smiled slightly. "Thank you. Come down to my office in half an hour and we can discuss some revisions I'd like to make."

He hadn't actually decided on any revisions yet, but he knew there would be some. Venom's writing was more than adequate, but Megatron always took great pains to make sure that what he was saying sounded like it was something he would say. After all, he'd risen to fame as a gladiator, not an academic. He didn't want to sound like he'd abandoned his roots...especially since he had.

"Was watching a gladiator fight. Fastest way to get here. Betted on Grimlock, won." Skywarp told Lugnut, grinning and flashing a stack of credits in his hand. He turned to Thrust, giving his red lookalike a grin to acknowledge his answer.

He didn't blame Lugnut for being so serious... his friend's fanaticism was what made him so fun to be around.

"Escort job? Doesn't sound that hard, fellas. Which ship are they coming in?" Skywarp asked, his expression telling his two comrades that he was hoping for resistance.

Wheeljack's Work Shop

Wheeljack's workshop has an always expanding inventory of all kinds of mechanical stuff lying around. Most of it is still in an experimental phase with some others in test phase.

Wheeljack liked working in Kaon on his inventions. There were way too many rules and regulations for him to deal with back in Iacon and it limited his creative thinking. Ever since Megatron took over Kaon, he had no trouble with the government at all and they let him be. They only checked up on him from time to time to see what he had created so far.

One of the reasons why there's so much unfinished work lying around is because Zeta Prime's lackey's ordered him to stop any further development on them. Wheeljack's just glad that they didn't take it with them. Probably because they wouldn't know what to do with it since only he knew what they were for. He did as he was told though. Wheeljack's intentions were always good and his inventions were always meant to help Cybertronians.

Now with Zeta Prime out of the picture and Megatron in, he could finally continue to work on the projects that he had lying around. The current project that he was working on was labeled The Pretender Vehicle Project. It’s currently in its test phase though.

The Pretender Vehicle Project was an idea that he had a long time ago. Soldiers moving around in a vehicle that could function as a decoy as the Cybertronian inside stepped out of it. The Cybertronian inside could send out the Pretender for basic recon and all audio and video could be instantly monitor by the one controlling the vehicle from a distance.

There was a disadvantage to this though. In order for the vehicle to respond to the Cybertronian's commands, the Pretender Vehicle and the Cybertronian needed to be linked to each other. While that was not the disadvantage per se, it could cause some for of stress to the mech.

When Wheeljack was done entering this data in his log, he spun around in his chair and walked over to the Pretender Vehicle where his assistant was working on it. "Hey Highbrow how's it going so far? There's somebody coming over here to test this thing out for us and if it's a success, it could give the army an advantage over their enemies," he said a little anxiously. "Make sure that this thing is going to be perfectly in synch with the mech or else we'll fry his brain module."

Highbrow looked up from his work and turned to Wheeljack. "How long until said bot arrives? Some of the nuiances are proving problematic. We are near completion, but we have not had adequate time to fully trouble shoot the prototype yet. I could not, at this time, guarantee with 100 % certainty that it is safe to use."

"'We' are doing nothing," Predacon told Scorponok. "But I've devised a code patch that should let us generate new protoforms with more than one alternate mode. Of course, to test it I'll need to get my hands on a Vector computer."

He looked around, exaggeratedly. "I can't seem to find one here. Guess we'll have to go shopping, hmm?"

Deathsaurus turned from the window and rose to his feet. There was work to be done, and little time left to do it in.

He pressed a few buttons on his desk comm. "Astrtrain, Dirge, I feel like taking a walk. Do accompany me, if you please."

From his desk, he pocketed a small pistol, and a case of energon goodies and a holder, and a small bottle of finest electrum.

Then he stepped out into the hallway and into an elevator.

"Hmm? Yes, yes, of course sir. I'll meet you at the door." Astrotrain hurriedly downloaded the reports Deathsaurus might ask about, then downed a glass of hard oil. "In my defense, I only read out the names of these guys." Skywarp told Lugnut, disappearing and reappearing on the larger Decepticon's other side. "Plus, the spaceport is more or less deserted. Why so tense today, big guy?"

Humming a tune, Skywarp detached the long-barreled machinegun from his left shoulder and began to reload it, snapping in a fresh cartridge of bullets.

"Ingenuous." Scorponok told Predacon, ignoring his associate's little sarcasm. The larger Transformer loomed behind Predacon, and asked, "So you're messing around with the software instead of the body of the Protoforms? Mmm, that way we could birth multi-changers much more easily."

Scorponok scratched his chin with one claw, trying to put his head around the advancement that Predacon had made. He chuckled. "I imagine that the damned church templars wouldn't be pleased if they heard of this, no. Too bad we never pay any attention to them, mmm?"

The former Senator shrugged at Predacon's last sentence, smirking. "So we're going to try and hijack a Vector computer? Somehow I don't think that the guardians to the Vector computers would allow you to use it for your purposes. And I alone won't exactly be intimidating enough to let us shoulder our way in..."

Scorponok guessed that Predacon would be utilizing troops from this 'Decepticon' movement which his friend has apparently joined. Scorponok himself had considered joining, out of spite against the Autobots, but he wasn't convinced if a rebel group would be right for Cybertron. Corrupt an entrepreneur as he was, he didn't fancy a war...

"That was not the best experience," Starscream said to Skyfire with a rueful grin as his entire sensory array finally came online and he could hear a comm message - let alone think - again.

Dirge gave a brief sigh as the message came through. It was a borning task usually, but at least it was a change of pace from walking the same path through the building, hoping for some activity. There had been a time when Dirge first took the job that it had been fun - all manner of theives or vandals attempting to get onto the property to scrounge a few credits or something worth selling, and he had been free to contend with them in whatever manner he and the rest of the guard staff pleased. After a few weeks on the job, though, the intruders had learned to steer clear of Dirge, and most intrusions had stopped all together. He'd even begun to purposely advert his attention to 'encourage' some action, but fear of Dirge's reputation had already spread to far among the local lowlifes...

Perhaps that was why he'd had that strange encounter. As Dirge reponsitioned himself to stand waiting at Deathsaurus's favored elevator, he pulled a small datapad out of subspace and looked it over again.

It was a job invitation of sorts, being passed out at the bars and clubs the last time Dirge had been out on his time off. The little toady of a messenger had been distributing it out mostly to bouncers and other large thugs. He had almost hesitated to approach Dirge to give him one, but the messenger had seemed more eager to dispense all the datapads and get out of the area.

The details of the job offer was as non-descript as the data pad it was recorded on, but there was one thing that was clear - the pay was good, better than what he was getting here...

Behind him Dirge heard the sound of lift deciending to his level, and he quickly put the datapad back into subspace for later. Better that he not be caught distracted with the boss about to arrive.

"As for safety," he added, "well we'll never know what problems we're going to encounter until we test it with somebody inside it."

Wheeljack looked at the scematics again. "I really hoped that this is going to work," he said to Highbrow. "This guy could really benefit from what we're making here." He looked over to the vehicle again and then at the various kinds of unfinished weapons in the back of the room.

"You know, I have some ideas to beef this thing up a little more," he said as he walked up to Highbrow. "I have some unfinished weapons in the back that could go well with this project. I'm going to have a look at those and see what I can come up with."

Wheeljack walked to the back and started to look around for what he had in mind. "Oh, don't forget to test the Cryogenic Regeneration ability. I doubt that it'll run at the same level of efficiency as a CR-Chamber, but it should at least run at forty percent of that capacity."

On average, it comes in at 38% repair capacity of a CR-Chamber. A little below what we were hoping, but still well-within acceptable parameters, and far surpassing our normal repair capabilities."

Highbrow stood up, "Assuming there are not any neurological problems, I believe the bot in question will be very happy with the outcome."

Grimlock stepped into the corridor that led into the preparation chambers for the gladiator fighters, the shouts of the crowd dulling into an echo behind him.

His body was caked with spilt energon, oil and mech fluid. So deep were his fists stained everyday, that there were permanent specks of black mech-blood residue that simply refused to be cleaned, short of replacing the plating for his fists.

Grimlock didn't care either way.

He stepped into the decontamination chamber, nodding appreciatively as the cleaning fluid was showered down over him, washing off the layer of energon, oil and dust from his exostructure. Once he was clean (other than the cracks and dents received, plus those unwashable stains) he stepped out, navigating his way until he was out of the Colloseum. Nobody challenged Grimlock, nobody got in his way.

"Hrrrn." Grimlock growled as he snatched his pay, as well as his cut in bettings, from the shifty-looking orderly that handed them to Grimlock with shaking fingers.

He stuffed the credits into a compartment in his chest, and then proceeded to transform. He landed as an armoured, treaded vehicle that would look like a tank if it had a turret. Rather, instead of a turret he had six exhaust vents that pointed backwards from a burly body. It was clear that Grimlock also preferred to charge headlong into the enemy, even in his alternate mode.

He didn't so much as charge as trundle along the street, though.

All the fights... they seemed so empty. Sure, they satiated his bloodlust, and earned a not inconsiderable amount of credits, but it felt... meaningless somehow. Like he wanted something... more. Surely this wasn't how he was supposed to live his life for the next five million years or so?

Call it fate, call it coincidence, but Grimlock soon found himself in the Main Spaceport...

Though keeping alert, he did find himself thinking again about the datapad job offer. He enjoyed his employment here, and the money was good, but the money on the job offer was very tempting. It was listed a one-time job, with a chance for further employment opportunities - probably testing would-be employees before signing them up fully, Dirge surmised. He could always just check things out, then make a decision.

Dirge started to push the thoughts of the other job out of his head, making sure to fully focus on his current one. He'd have the chance soon enough to check things out - he had time off just as soon as this shift was finished. Best to save it for then.

"Oh, it's no one thing," Predacon told Scorponok, glad to have someone who was interested in his work. "They physical changes themselves are no big deal. We can do them now, on new protoforms and on existing robots. But I had to make some changes to the core operating system, and some adjustments to the basic psychological algorithms as well. Oh, and some changes to the physical architecture of the brain module, too. The problem wasn't so much that we couldn't make a triplechanger, so much as that all of them went hopelessly insane when we did. Our brains are hardwired to only accept one alternate mode at a time, and having more than that causes...problems."

If changes were made in the coding instead of the physical protoforms... only a twisted mind like his colleague's could think of it. And all those other things he had mentioned... "Physical adjustments to the brain module? What exactly?"

He smiled slightly at the mention of psychological problems at being forced to handle more than one alternate mode at one time. His poor employee Trident was rebuilt into a triple-changer under Scorponok's own ministrations. Deathsaurus removed the energon holder from his mouth, "Have either of you been to the Red Geist yet? It's the new pub that just opened dowtown. I've heard wonderful things about it. We've a reserved balcony table. Once there, Astrotrain, you may share whatever terrible news it is that you have, and how you are going to fix it." "Of course I did," Lugnut told Thrust seriously. "Why do you ask?"

He barely restrained a groan when Thundercracker walked up, realizing that he was neither Starscream nor Jetfire.

Then again, if he's actually got any talent...

"Thrust, why don't you and Skywarp take our new friends here for a test-fly? If they're as good as they say they are, we can take them back to Megatron along with the two we came here for."

"And there's so much point in hiding when the entire city is made up of pariahs," Predacon told Scorponok teasingly. "Why, someone might -- gasp -- judge you if they knew who you were." He cocked his head to one side. "Except no, since this isn't Iacon."

He listened to the clawed giant chit-chat with Finback, then cut in. "Insurance doesn't do much good if they don't know what the problem is."

Scorponok shrugged at Predacon's words. "What's the use of staying undercover when someone eager for money can call the Iacon goons and say 'good day, I know where corrupt ex-Senator Scorponok is', hmmm?"

"If the old guy here has insurance he can easily pay for your unorthodox services, Predacon." Scorponok told his smaller comrade. "Speaking of which, what do you think ails this wretch? I'll say Cosmic Rust, but it doesn't look contagious. Ain't gonna test out my own theory, mind you."

"But those people in Iacon won't spare a protoform, even for a war veteran like yourself." Scorponok said, inferring from Finback's story. "Fortunately you have come to the right place. Predacon here has the technical know-how to transfer you into a new body... while a blank protoform would be relatively easy to acquire."

Scorponok clacked his massive claws together. "It'll probably be painful, and knowing us we'll probably cut your old body apart to study the disease. What say you, mister...?"

Starscream stayed close to Jetfire, taking in the sights. He knew Kaon of old, was pleased to see the spaceport was fully functional again and regeneration works going on across the City. He said nothing, but he was thinking a lot.

Given the unique information the two explorers were carrying - details of planets suitable for mining and/or colonisation - naturally Starscream was on his guard. It just would not do for them to return home unharmed (bar the few dents and scratches to the paintwork) and get scrapped for what they knew. Oh, yes, he was well aware of the industrial advantage of claiming new worlds to others outside the Tagan Heights area.

He wondered if Jetfire was.

Still, the place was busy. Very busy. That was reassuring. He began to relax.

"Hey, Jetfire," he said, cheekily. "From up there, can you see any official welcome committee?"

Clench waited until Grimlock had closed the line with him before laughing. The bot was dumb, but could make him some serious credits if he could help bring back some of the audience to the arenas.

He had though of a few bots who could manage Grimlock while they were on the line. Sideswipe had jumped to mind pretty quickly, but considering he might have to fight him, or his brother Sunstreaker, it seemed like a conflict of interest. The next thought was Eject. He would be a good manager if he could earn Grimlock's respect.

Clench put in Eject's information and sent him a communication request. "Eject, this is Clench. I have a gladiator in need of your services. Up and coming, good potential. Let me know if you are interested."

Scorponok made a disgusted sound. "Hurting the criminals and corrupt officials like me, that I understand. But hurting the people who fight for them? Iacon's government is flawed, you know that?" Scorponok sighed, a deep, tired sigh that betrayed his scowling facade.

Skywarp peered out of the crates he was hiding behind, observing Starscream and Jetfire. Screw Lugnut, he probably wanted all the glory for himself!

Jetfire looked around the spaceport when he heard Starscream's question, and felt a small rush of excitement when he saw someone carrying a sign with their names. "Looks like someone is waiting for us," he told his partner.

The scientist had a small frown on his face, though, as he glaced over Lugnut and his companions. Something about them just seemed...off a bit, as if they were out-of-place in the newly-built, shiny Kaon spaceport. Jetfire's frown deepened a bit more as he remembered just how dingy and run-down the spaceport had been the last time he'd been here, when it had been filled with mechs like their new friend instead of the well-heeled business crowd that seemed to frequent it now.

"I suppose we should go make some introductions," he said at last.

Lugnut scowled. He'd been hoping to get rid of the two newcomers more easily, and evem more so the irritating Skywarp.

"If you don't get them out of here," he commed to Thrust, trying again, "they're going to make a scene and our cover will be blown before we can get out of here with the package. Recruit them, train them, kill them, teleport them to the moon...I don't care what you do with them but I want them out from underfoot without drawing any attention to us."

He was walking toward Starscream and Jetfire as he sent that, and as soon as he was within earshot he called out to them, "Sirs? I'm Lugnut. The governor's office sent me to meet you."

"A pleasure," Jetfire responded warily.

Frowning for a second, he guessed, "A new body won't be enough, I don't think. If this disease has gotten into your nervous or immune systems then it'll just spread out to devour the new one too. We need to find a way to keep it in check first before we try to repair the damage its done, or a solar cycle from now we'll be right back where we started. Of course, lucky for you I have a few ideas that I've been just dying to try out. For science, you understand."

"Hrnn." Scorponok growled as he listened to Predacon's words. Maybe his crazy colleague does have a point. Megatron may be able to restore glory to the Cybertronian race. If so, then... this might be a start to make amends. Of sort, anyway... Megatron also happens to be the strongest force around, so it was partially selfish reasons as well. "You know, Predacon, I might be interested in joining up with Lord Megatron as well, come to think about it."

But the scientific bit got Scorponok interested. He nodded, and began to tackle the problem from the scientific angle. "How about grafting some organic carapace to him? I've toyed with the idea of organics being able to regenerate parts of their body that they have lost. If that could be done to our friend here, the organic carapace would be able to prevent the rust from eating him."

Order.

That was what he liked the most.

Among his own people, he knew that there were those that thought him a tyrant(those were generally the ones who'd just been sentenced), but for the most part, Polyhex was the most peaceful city-state on Cybertron.

The fact that it's laws were the most rigidly enforced, the sentences the most severe allowed under the law, probably had something to do with it.

Even as the rest of the planet descended into sloth and chaos, Polyhex remained stable, with Darkmount(the governor's palace/estate) a shining jewel.

To Straxus, it was a point of pride. The fact that he was able to keep his city-state a stable place, a safe place(if not exactly a bastion of freedom) signalled just how right he was about maintaining order.

If asked, Straxus was in Kaon to make an assessment to deliver to his old friend, Zeta Prime, as to his opinion on how things were. And on the face of it, it was true. His real reason for coming was to meet Megatron. If he was right, Kaon's governor might be the best hope to unify and save this decaying planet.

With a heavy, measured tread, he exited his personal shuttle, making his way towards the gates.

"You would be surprised how much organic material someone with my resources and my... obsession for techno-organics could procure." Scorponok told Finback with a smug smile.

Although, truth be told, none of his multiple sadistic experiments in grafting organic to technological had worked out, other than to produce freaky monsters. When agents of the Church found out, Scorponok had set up one of his underlings (who had naturally been swindling money) to take the fall. He denied everything, of course, but guilty men always do. Although maybe with Predacon's help, and by working on a Protoform... Scorponok has a lot of those stashed in various places, of course, some... appropriately modified.

One of these, in particular, was an experimental mesh of technology and organic samples bought from a black market dealer...

"While admittedly I am only a dabbler in xenobiology and technobiology, Predacon here is a master of his craft." Scorponok glanced at Predacon. "By the way, I have several protoforms stashed around various places. Kaon included. We could get started now."

Energon cube in hand, hunched over in the shade, Grimlock observed the comings and goings of the entire spaceport. He noted as Brawn and his crew disembarked from their ship. He noted that the short mech was built strongly. While tiny, he would be troublesome if they were to meet in a fight.

Grimlock noted as Straxus descended in the secure locations. Grimlock didn't recognize Polyhex's governor, but he seemed like one who relied more on brute strength in battle. Doesn't look like a meek politician, though. He also noted Gunrunner landing nearby. The bearings of that young Transformer made Grimlock assume correctly that he was a military mech, albeit a greenhorn. A veteran would be mature enough to be less flashy in landing, especially in a location as seedy as Kaon.

Grimlock observed back to the large-ish group that he noted earlier. The duo of Seekers and their large companion were still there... no. The black Seeker was gone, but the red Conehead and the large purple brute were now talking to a host of others. Grimlock narrowed his optics. He recognized Thundercracker and Dreadwing from his earlier look at the spaceport, but the other two he didn't notice until now.

They looked like the polished, scientific type. The white-and-red Seeker stood in a more confident gait than the others of similar build around him, which gave him an air of superiority, sort of. He had an intelligent glint in his optics that made Grimlock note that he would be a dangerous opponent, if a probably cowardly one. Grimlock guessed the Seeker would strike from afar in battle, or utilize others as shields to protect himself.

The other one also transformed into a jet, but seemed more clueless, like one of those studious scholars who never stepped out of their quarters. Grimlock shook his head. Someone like him wouldn't survive a round in battle.

Ah, there the black Seeker was, hiding behind some crates, barely noticeable had it not been for Grimlock's well-honed instincts. Evidently to be better to attack the newcomers should hostilities ensue.

Grimlock's optics narrowed. The black Seeker, the red Coneheaded Seeker and the purple-and-green brute seemed to be part of an organization. While they may be nothing more than some common thugs, word on the streets is that some large rebellion force is building on the horizon. A militia, if you will. And with a gladiator like Megatron running for office, Grimlock figured it would be a little while until tensions peaked.

The question is, if slag hits the fan, which side would Grimlock be fighting against?

Thankfully, I spent enough time with Skullgrin and his actor friends in my celebrity days. I know how to play my role."

"Fantastic," Lugnut said, making sure to flash Starscream the closest thing to a smile that his face was capable of producing. "If you'll follow me..."

He led the two scientists toward the exit, then out into the VIP parking garage where an opulent hover-transport waited for them.

Jetfire inclined his head slightly. "You know more about these things than I do, Starscream."

Predacon nodded in agreement with Finback. "Exactly! So Step One is to harvest enough protoform tissue to build a healthy 'shell' to encase what's left of your body. Step Two will be to introduce the organic compounds you'll need to keep what's left of you intact, long-term. I think a genetically-engineered bacteria will work, one programmed as a hunter-seeker to search out and destroy any disease outbreaks. Combine that with enhanced internal repair systems and you should be able to survive in comfort indefinitely."

He shook his head at Scorponok. "No, you haven't. When you get back, though, I have to insist that you do."

"Ah, nice." Skywarp whispered to himself as Starscream and Jetfire followed Lugnut to the hover-transport. As soon as they are out of his sight, the Seeker crouched forwards, and disappeared.

He materialized with an audible crackle of electricity inside the transport, sitting himself in the pilot's seat. He positioned himself in a relaxed position, then whistled as if he had been waiting for them all day long.

"I'll do better than that, Predacon. I will show you what a techno-organic protoform looks like." Scorponok called out before he stalked out of the laboratory... knocking his head on the roof of the door in the process.

Scorponok muttered under his breath as he hunkered down, shuffled out of the laboratory, and made his way out of the Institute.

The ex-Senator transformed as soon as he stepped out of the building, driving towards the border between Kaon and Stanix, the rather inhospitable region the locals have taken to call the Acid Wastes. The dead metallic detritus around Kaon's landscape were crushed under Scorponok's treads, while anyone foolish enough not to move aside as the gigantic construction vehicle came rumbling through were batted aside by Scorponok's scoop arms.

After some time, he arrived in the abandoned Acid Wastes. It was a mixture of dirty brown and green, with a tinge of rust that uncomfortably reminded Scorponok of Finback's predicament. Steams of acid hissed out of the ground. There were some buildings in the Wastes, but those were abandoned. The beautiful city of Stanix jutted out of the ground in the distance, but otherwise there was only the Wastes. The tinge of sulphur reeked in the air, and Scorponok felt the outermost part of his exostructure beginning to peel off. He wrinkled his nose at the smell. An unarmoured Empty would corrode to death within an hour or so.

Fortunately, Scorponok was built sturdier than that.

He transformed into robot mode, and began to walk with purpose into the Acid Wastes, thick feet squelching into the constantly liquid-filled (well, acid-filled) ground.

Acid Wastes

Scorponok stalked to one of the abandoned scientific exploration buildings. But instead of entering it, Scorponok shuffled towards a pile of debris on its side, and stood on top of it.

His weight triggered a sensor, that opened the ground to reveal a lift. Scorponok stepped on it and tapped his claws on his hips as the lift slowly descended. Even underground, acid still dripped down, and the pungent smell filled the air.

Unlike the lift column, the storage house below was pristine clean. Several stasis pods were stacked, three of them larger than normal protoforms. Drones accosted Scorponok as he stepped down the lift. Two hovering ones held acid-neutralizing sprays in their three-fingered hands and began to systematically decontaminate Scorponok as they hovered meticulously around Scorponok's massive frame.

The lead drone was a six-wheeled gray and orange one, and was as large as a typical Minibot. It transformed into a robot mode, and spoke in a mechanized, flat voice. "Greetings, Master."

"Fasttrack, get the Ginrai protoform here, as well as two others. One of the large, modified ones, and one of the sparkless blanks." Scorponok told the drone as he allowed himself to be cleaned. Fasttrack used to be one of his employees... until Scorponok snuffed out his spark for insolence. Since it was a shame to waste such excellent material, Scorponok placed his own version of AI into it to create a more intelligent drone.

"At once, Master." Fasttrack said, and shuffled off to move the stasis pods.

Scorponok sidled over to a pile of datapads, and selected several. One contained three months' worth of research on technomatter and organic combination. The result was Ginrai, Cybertron's first techno-organic Protoform. A spark kept the body online. It is still a transformer, but with organic elements intertwined seamlessly with the technomatter. It could regenerate health faster due to its organic components, and it would be enough to fool sensors trained to ignore organic components.

The perfect assassin.

This 'Ginrai' is named after something Scorponok had heard once before in one of the ancient stories (he did have a penchant of melodrama, which he reveled in) regarding techno-organics or something. It was the content of the first stasis pod that is now loaded onto a hover-cart by Fasttrack.

The second one was similar to a regular stasis pod, with one key difference. The protoform was a 'blank'. It was without a spark. Blank protoforms are extremely valuable in medical purposes, as well as scientific experimentation. Which was why Scorponok had quite a number of them here. It was the one that would be used for their little patient.

The third one, though, was modified slightly by Scorponok to be larger than a normal Protoform. The practice was relatively easy, almost as simple as upgrading to a larger body, but is frowned upon by the church for some silly ethical reasons. The reason Scorponok brought it... well, Predacon will be wanting to creaete a multi-changer as soon as possible.

And the other datapads Scorponok carried contained schematics for weaponry and several different designs for six-changers Scorponok had thought about in his spare time... If what Predacon was planning would be true, then it wouldn't be so far-fetched to create a six-changer... why bother with three, when they can aspire for more?

Scorponok grinned. Some of the schematics focused on exploration, but most... were weapons of mass destruction. Genocide weapons.

With appreciation showing bright on his face, Starscream climbed into the transport and sank back into one of the form-moulding bucket chairs.

"This is special, isn't it?" he remarked to Lugnut. "There can't be more than a round eight of these on the whole planet - unless the Uraya manufactory has stepped up production. Must have cost the equivalent of half the output of the Energon mines for a vorn fractal."

As he chattered happily, though, Starscream happened to glance out of the window and back at the spaceport terminal. His optics were sharp of necessity, space being a rather less than safe environment, so he was quickly able to ascertain that an awful lot of mechs were showing interest in the party. But, then again, he supposed that they were a bit of a show, plus the vehicle was sure to attract attention.

"Good, good," Wheejack replied to Highbrow. "I knew there was a reason why I took you as my assistent. You think ahead." Wheejack scratched his chin (or wel, whatever he has) as he was looking over the weaponry. Most of them only needed some minor adjustments to fit the shell. "Thirty eight percent, huh? Well I guess it'll have to do right now. Maybe if the shell is synched up with the mech, it'll perform better. Right now that's just guessing though."

Wheeljack started to work on the weapons. Let's just hope we don't fry the mech's brain module. That's not going to do any good for good our name."

As Wheeljack was thinking about the mech, Gunrunner's transmission came in. It startled Wheejack so much that he accidentally fired the weapon that he was working on, punching a hole through the wall. "Whoops!" Wheeljack said. "Well at least I now know that it works."

Wheeljack walked over to the com unit. "Greetings, Gunrunner. You know the way to the shop? If not, these are the coordinates." Wheeljack transmits the coordinates to Gunrunner. "We're ready to test it, so you're more than welcome to join us!"

With Megatron in power companies find it a lot easier to license their designs to local builders than try and import stuff built elsewhere. One of the many ways he's dragged our economy out of the waste extractor."

Jetfire clambered in beside the other two fliers and said, "What else has Megatron been doing?" The scientist really wasn't interested in politics, but if the spaceport was any indication Kaon had come a long way from the squalid, poverty-stricken hellhole it had been when they'd left.

"I'm not really the sort of guy to talk to about policy," Lugnut admitted. "I'm more of a gopher than anything, and a new hire at that. Wheeljack prepped the table in the mean time for Gunrunner. "Step two will involve you entering the vehicle and test its compatibility with you." Wheeljack looked over at Highbrow. "Highbrow, can you connect the cables from teh table to the Vehicle?"

Looking back at Gunrunner. "So, any questions before we start?"

Gunrunner eyed the helmet assembly Wheeljack indicated with a frown. Gunrunner swore inwardly. He shouldn't have watched that creepy science fiction movie last cycle. "This wouldn't... fry my brain circuits or burn my optics or anything, right? Will it hurt? And, uh... damn. How much is the Army paying me for this?"

The Autobot glanced around and spied the burgundy-red vehicle sitting in one corner of Wheeljack's Workshop. "That's going to be my armour?"

"Well..." Eject started, remembering why Clench never really moved beyond the dregs and lower tiers, he just never grasped the tact needed for the glitz and glamour of Iacon. The fact he is looking to help this bot move up means he's either getting a very large cut from a much dumber bot, or that bot currently has him by an exhaust port and is holding him over a ledge Eject thought to himself. "This isn't some small time here. He'll be on screen, he'll be interviewed, he'll be forced to sit across from his opponent before big bouts. Some bots who are known for their.... intensity can't keep that in check. I don't want to be in control of a loose cannon so you can get paid."

Razorclaw is good at what he does. Every assignment that he receives from his boss Deathsaurus is excecuted with the utmust precision. Every move, every energon drop isn't a wasted one. Most of his collegues in Deathsaurus' crew keep their distance from him. Razorclaw has never been much of a talker. He feels that socializing is a waste of energon.

Right now, Razorclaw has been trafficking energon from Iacon to Kaon as per Deathsaurus' orders. While it's normally not illegal to move energon from one place to another, this particular stash was aquirred illegally. Razorclaw never asked questions when receiving an assignment. He never cared what the was going to be done with after it either. Loyalty and honor are more important to him and so far, Deathsaurus has treated him more than right.

However, Razorclaw's actions haven't gone unnoticed. While he has never been caught, Iacon's agents are aware of his existence. The Special Forces have been on his trail for a while now. So far, he has managed to wipe his trails out but he wonders how long he can keep that up. Normal cops would've given up by now but these two have been proven to be quite hard to shake off.

Special Forces members Jazz and his partner Rapido are the only two that have been just a few steps behind and it'll only be a matter of time before they catch up with him. Razorclaw knows that he'll have to dea with those two sooner or later. It's a good thing that Razorclaw has no criminal record. It's what prevents them from bringing him in.

That's a problem for later though. He opens a comm to Deathsaurus to inform him about the assignment. "Razorclaw to Lord Deathsaurus," he said formally as he always does. "Operation was a success and you need not worry about energon for a while. Awaiting further instructions."

Rage. Anger. Bloodlust. Rage.

It was what defined Grimlock. In battle, the bloodlust, the rage, the battle fury would overtake him. It was as if he was possessed then. No amount of self-control could hope to stop him when he gets angry, or starts swinging a punch. Logic and reason take a vacation if Grimlock begins to fight.

Always.

Be it Thetacons, or the Malignus Revolutionaries, or the Renegades, or the luckless dredges of society that he fought every day in the Gauntlet or the Forge, Grimlock always met them with the same battle fury he showed everyone else.

Every enemy in front of him is the same. He will always strike hard, strike fast, and kill the enemy as soon as possible.

Only if the enemy is a particularly skillful one does reason come and try to figure out a strategy to overwhelm that skillful opponent. Something that, regrettably, didn't work during his fight against Megatron all those giga cycles ago.

He remembered the stupid, rash actions. Something he was ashamed of. When he was cornered, and started to be beaten, he gave himself fully to the rage, to the lust for the spill of energon, and charged headlong without any kind of strategy.

Grimlock transformed into robot mode, limbs unfurling and the armoured shell of his vehicle mode splitting open and ending up on his back. His optic band glowed red as he completed his transformation into robot mode. "Megatron." He rumbled. He hoped what Clench had promised him, those high-tier fights, would net him a second shot against Megatron.

For lack of a better goal in life, it would be to defeat one who had defeated him before.

What else could Grimlock do? The rage, this beast within him, gets in the way of any other thing he tries to do other than fighting.

"This is the VIP elevator," Lugnut told Starscream and Jetfire as the ornately-carved and painted metal doors slid open. He strode into a massive room, a refurbished cargo lift that now featured an energon minibar and several very comfortable chairs, along with a viewscreen.

"Right this way. I'm told that Lord Megatron is waiting for us."

He wanted to kick himself right away.

It's 'governor', not 'lord', Lugnut told himself scoldingly. Not to outsiders anyway.

Although he was able to keep himself from tensing for battle, he began to mentally prepare to manhandle their 'guests' into the lift if they started to object.

Predacon sighed. "Anaesthetic? What's that?" Chuckling, the mad scientist shook his head. "No, I'm afraid our patient can't be sedated. He needs to be conscious and functional or the new tissue won't be able to integrate into his body."

Turning to Finback, he said, "This will be incredibly agonizingly painful, but only for a few seconds. Once the new tissue adapts it'll start to shape itself to replace all the parts of your body that have been ravaged by disease. This isn't a panacea, though. Without the organic shell that Scorponok and I talked about, your disease will just set about destroying the new tissue as well. Of course, if you're willing to take a little trip with us afterwards...well, we should be able to take care of that for you lickety-split."

"Pfah. And you say I'm melodramatic." Scorponok felt the tip of his claw close upon the syringe, only for it to shatter a moment later. "Ah, good. Can't get this slaggin' syringe to work anyhow."

Turning to Finback, Scorponok shrugs. "It'll hurt. When crazy scientist types like us says that it won't hurt, it will. If he says it'll hurt, well... let's hope you can endure pain."

Scorponok straightened up and strode towards where the other protoforms were. Techno-organic Ginrai and the large one. Scorponok leant backwards on the large stasis pod, nearly big enough for Scorponok to squeeze in, sans kibble. "About the trip, where are these mer- hired hands of yours, Predacon?"

Wheeljack pushed the lever back to its original position and the electric current stopped going into the table. It was safe for Gunrunner to remove the helmet and to get off the table. Wheeljack stood up and looked over at his patient. "So how're you feeling? Experiencing any discomfort?"

Looking back to his monitor, he saw that everything went as it should have. "No strange readings on our end. Depending on your status, we could say so far so good!"

'... but not what kind of disaster,' Starscream shot back at Jetfire.

He scanned the 'VIP elevator' across the spectrum, observed that, other than Lugnut, no one else was present. And his scanning equipment, not yet re-adjusted from space requirements, was acute. No sign of the anticipated Protectors, but no sign of any potential threat either.

He relaxed, grinning.

"Nicccce..." Starscream made straight for the bar; neither he nor Jetfire had taken straight Energon for a while now and he anticipated that someone like a Governor would have good stuff available. He was not disappointed, picking out two fine distilled Hexal vintages and holding the cubes up, trying to choose between them.

"Yes, me Grimlock KING!" Grimlock slammed a fist against his chest, puffing it up. He took Jazz's hand in his enormous one and shok it, applying a little pressure just for the heck of it. "Depends what kind of in-for-ma-tion you Jazz and Red-Bot here want."

He gave Rapido a cursory glance, and sized him up. It was obvious that he was Jazz's partner. Either undercover cops, from the looks of it, or detectives. Or maybe even bounty hunters. Who knew? Either way, Grimlock was curious. "Where you two from? Iacon?"

Wheeljack's Laboratory

AAAAA!

Gunrunner tried to scream, but his vocoders wouldn't respond. His blue optics opened wide as the contact, the irreversible contact, was made between his neural net and the Pretender Vehicle. It felt like Gunrunner now possessed a limb he never knew he had.

It felt somewhat uncomfortable to have it attached, yet Gunrunner knew exactly how the cold metal floor felt against the reinforced wheels of the Pretender Vehicle, how the laboratory looked like from the rudimentary optics of the Vehicle...

And he experienced it with crystal clarity, as if he was in two places, observing with the same set of optics. It wasn't like controlling a remote-controlled drone, no. It was like having an extension of yourself, a part of yourself, introduced.

And it felt so right, that Gunrunner wondered why he never felt blind prior to the contact.

Wheeljack and Highbrow's words registered on two sets of audio senses.

Slowly Gunrunner felt his way around. His fingers, his knees, his optics, his transformation circuits, his subspace pocket, his reinforced armour, his engine, his afterburners... everything felt right.

Gunrunner opened his mouth and spoke, raising his hands to remove the helmet. The mental contact was still there. As strong as the contact between Gunrunner and his arm. "Never felt better, Jack. I feel... so much more!"

As if to punctuate his words, the Pretender Vehicle's headlights lighted up abruptly and the engine revved up loudly, even as Gunrunner untangled himself from Wheeljack's machinery.

"You wouldn't believe the things I think I can do now!"

Wheeljack sat up right as Gunrunner got up from the table. He looked at him and then at the Pretender Vehicle. Wheeljack stood up and picked up a light and walked over to Gunrunner. He checked his optics. "So far so good. Optic nerve net seems normal and your brain module seems to have sustained no damage whatsoever." He scratched his chin. "Only some extra activity in some parts, but that was expected."

He crossed his arms and pondered for just a short moment. "Alright. Now before we start finding out all the things that you can do, lets first find out how far the neural link between you and the Pretender Vehicle goes."

Wheeljack started pacing from left to right. It helped him with thinking. "Now according to our schematics and calculations you should be able to register immediately what the Pretender Vehicle registers. You'll see what it sees and hear what it hears, but are you able to feel what it feels too? "

With that, Wheeljack pointed at Highbrow. "Highbrow. Wil you be so kind to pick up that wrench and hit the Pretender Vehicle with it once? Tell me the percentage of feedback that Gunrunner suffers from it. It should show up on that screen near you."

Jazz smiled. Of all things he thought he would run into in Kaon, a gladiator wasn't one of them. "We're looking for somebody that's missing." Jazz couldn't fully disclose everything to Grimlock. While he's sure that Grimlock isn't such a bad guy, telling the first person on the street what you're up to isn't really a smart thing to do. He tried to deflect his questions with questions of his own.

"Say, big guy. You must've been in quite some battles. Care to tell me about one of your greatest victories?"

Scorponok picked up the smaller stasis pod in his claw, and grinned. "This one, though, is one of my pride and joy. They said it couldn't be done, that it would be a blaspheme of nature. The door to the stasis pod swung open, smoke and fog of the cooling and stablizing systems obscuring the view for a few moments. Mechanical restraints released and a low, gutteral sound began to emminate from the inside.
Swinging down out of the interior, a small, but incredibly muscled form dropped down. Black fur covered most of it's body, while vents, sensors and armour plates dotted it's body. The technology and the organic seemed to be of the same material, blending and flowing together seemlessly. Circuitry and blood vessels could be seen just under the surfice where there was no hair covering.

The beast slumped down, walking on all four limbs. It's powerful front limbs longer and thicker than it's hind legs. It's body arched, it's face forward, a completely un-Transformer face, full of lines and wrinkles and flesh, crowned by a sensor band at the top. The hair down the back was a metallic silver.

It's optics opened, glowing blue for a second. There was almost a second of conciousness, of recognition, then it's optics flared and crackled with a red energy. The beast walked forward, looking at Predicon, it's lips peeling back, snarling at the Transformer.

It ran forward, charging within a few meters of the Giant Robot, and stood up on it's back legs, bringing itself up to it's full 8foot height. It raised it's arms high above it's head, roaring in challenge to the metal monster in front of him.

"I am Transformed...." It said in a monotone voice. It's optics flared to life again, and it gave it's head a little shake and looked up at the giant scientist. "Who.... What..... Why... am I here?"

Tarantulas is often viewed at with a frown from his fellow workers at the Kaon Polytechnic Institute. He 'creeps them out' is what usually is what they usually say. He prefers to work on his own and will only allow those of similar intelligence anywhere near him or his work because he views those of lower intelligence are unworthy of his time.

Zeta Prime's rule over Kaon made it difficult for Tarantulas to research various theories he had or conduct any experiments. Difficult, but not impossible. With Zeta Prime and his followers being cast out from Kaon and Megatron in his place, Tarantulas had it much easier. Things were definitely going to change.

Changing the way things go on Cybertron and that means that he wants to be prepared. He wants to have all available resources within his reach and that includes technology being developed outside the Polytechnic Institute.

He has tasked himself with monitoring all activity pertaining that particular advanced and experimental technology. Be it researching, engineering or anything else that might be remotely relevant. Set up in a dark corner of the control room, he's currently working on spider like mechs that function as gatherers of intelligence.

He put the spider like mech, that he called Spy Bots, on the floor. Switching the mech on, it quickly scurried away into darkness and on its way to its preset destination.

In the past, Tarantulas has attempted to recruit the services of Wheeljack many times. The overrated mechanic has declined him every time so far. He doesn't understand why he declined unlimited resources that could have been at his disposal and instead prefers to be an independent worker. Holed up in that dump he calls his workshop with that assistant of his.

The Pretender Shell, as if by it's own accord, rumbled forwards and moved out of the door, which is thankfully big enough for the ATV to move out.

The Shell clearly moved in a rather uneasy pattern, since Gunrunner was not used to having a ground-based alternate mode.

Scorponok whirled around, covering Ginrai from Thunderwing's view with his large body. Thunderwing? What is the mad aristocratic noble (OOC: is Thunderwing a noble here as well?) doing in here? To blackmail him? Is he going to be hostile?

Bah, Scorponok thought. With Finback on their side, they outnumber that self-absorbed idiot three to one, four if you count Ginrai. And Predacon has no doubt outfitted his laboratory with lots of fancy traps.

I know I do, Scorponok thought to himself.

If Thunderwing intends to drag him back to Iacon, well, people who die in Kaon are never recovered. And try as he might, Thunderwing can't take all of them at the same time. Still, why the crazy noble was here intrigued Scorponok.

"Ah, Thunderwing." Scorponok growled. "My paint job? I'll have you know this gaudy green-and-purple is an all new reformat. A much nicer change from the dull green and orange that I used while in the Senate, no?"

Faux-friendly jibe given, now it's time for business.

"But I have a feeling you're not here to talk about fashion. What do you want here? I don't think such nobility such as yours would deign to walk the streets in Kaon." The scientist growled, weapons systems starting to activate.

Scorponok shrugged. "The Pretender process? Yes, of a fashion. The 'Pretender Vehicle'. It was invented by Autobot scientist Wheeljack. It invoved having an outer shell that is tied to your neural net, and acts as an extension of yourself. Predacon here is working on something better -- an organic outer shell with more or less the same concept, but this gives you an additional body instead of just a vehicle."

(OOC Sorry guys, Wife and I have been rather sick, and it's been as much effort as I can muster to make dinner... let alone be creative.

I'm going to go back over a few posts and bring Ginrai to the present)

Ginrai looked at Scorponok and an eyebrow ridge cocked: "I do understand. I also understand that you didn't answer my question..... Why am I here? What have you done to me?"

The Minicon walked around a bit, flexing it's arms and legs, feeling the cybernetically enhanced muscles flex and fold. Memories were in there, programmed in, he could feel the ways to strike, to damage, to hurt. His optics sought out Predacon, measuring him, finding the weak spots in the armour, the soft places to strike. He flexed his hands, and his forarms transformed, revealing twin weapons. His neuro-net told him they were Shatter Cannons, and exactly what he could do. He searched his mind some more, finding his other capabilities for the first time. Ginrai was so engrossed with his systems that he barely heard the conversation between the three others in the room. It wasn't until they spoke directly to him, that he proccessed it all:

"I don't know how I could be any sort of Convoy... as a single Transformer... Unless I come with a trailer...."

He turned and looked up at Scorponok: "I don't have my own trailer... do I?"

Before the scientist could respond, another Transformer entered the room and Ginrai could sense the tension. When Scorponok blocked him from view, he knew something was amiss. He transformed into beast mode, stalking into the shadows, his black fur and wires blending into the shadows. Standing four feet tall to the shoulder now, walking on all fours, He made his way behind the giant Transformer, he made his way under the tables, moving around the outskirts of the room, looking for higher ground.

"You are here... as the future of our race. Techno-organics." Scorponok told Ginrai, audible pride in his voice. This young Minicon was smarter than he thought! He was able of comprehension that quickly, faster than he gave credit for. He knew it was a good move when he used a Minicon protoform as a template...

Whatever Scorponok wanted to say next was cut short when Predacon inspected Finback, distracting Scorponok. Afterwards, Thunderwing had came in.

(OOC: Back to the present.)

Scorponok was aware of Ginrai moving from the corners of his vision. He was sure that the techno-organic won't stray too far; all he knew in life was Scorponok the Creator and Predacon. Rather, Scorponok was more worried that Ginrai would spring any of Predacon's insane traps, or the aforementioned pet Mecannibal.

He sent a short comm-burst to Ginrai. A simple text message that should appear on the techno-organic's vision: This is Scorponok. Stay hidden. Do not show yourself to this Thunderwing. I do not trust him.

Scorponok caught the datapad deftly with one claw, and skimmed through it. Seems to all be in order, and Thunderwing is self-absorbed enough to do this kind of things... but then again... ah, second-guessing and double-crossing. How Scorponok had missed the political halls of Iacon.

"Predacon has everything figured out." Scorponok told Thunderwing, placing the datapad on one of Predacon's work tables. (Well, knowing Predacon that isn't necessarily true, but he needed to put up a bargaining front) "What's in it for me- or us, if we are to help you?"

Picking up the last syringe, he stabbed it down into the diseased Decepticon's midsection and injected. Then he turned back to Thunderwing.

"A generous offer. But here's my counteroffer: we need to seize control of a Vector computer in order to grow the specially-calibrated protoform that will become our friend's, uh...'Pretender' shell. "I've read your files, you've read mine, so let's get down to business, shall we? You, there." Gunrunner pointed at the conifer-green Seeker medic. "Give me files on Kaon and the attacks on the Temples. We'll have to increase security there."

He shrugged again. "Team Science will have to take care of things itself, no?"

He shook his head when Finback mentioned the multitude of weaknesses that organics undeniably possessed. "Certainly, pure organics are weak and pitiful. But what we're talking about is a techno-organic fusion. Organic and technological parts that blend together so seamlessly that you can't tell which is which, each one cancelling out the flaws of the other. In theory. In practice it might be as fragile as an eggshell, at least until we've made the right modifications. But it'll keep you from dying."

Predacon gave Thunderwing a smile. "Actually, my new friend, I have the beginnings of a plan..." He glanced toward the hoverchair that Finback had ridden in on. "But if you know the layout that would help a lot."

"Right away, Boss. I'll get to it." Skywarp replied to Megatron, smiling. A job well done, and Megatron doesn't sound angry, which is good.

Lugnut first. Skywarp opened a comm channel to the bulky Decepticon, and said, "Yo, Five-eyes! The Boss wants you to, ah, 'hurry the hell up'. He's got another job for us."

He clicked off the commlink before Lugnut could get another word in, and disappeared in a flash of purple light, reappearing in the air above Dreadwing. He perched on the massive Transformer's six-barrelled missile launcher like a gargoyle, and looked at Thundercracker. "The Governor can see you now. Thrust, we're going to have to use the service corridors, 'cause Straxus is also up and about here and, well, we don't want to cause a scene just yet. Also-"

Skywarp patted the missile launcher he was perched on. "-Weapons off. Not that I don't trust you or anything, it's protocol around here."

"Me, Grimlock know Razorclaw, yes. Him is bastard." Grimlock told Jazz. "Me, Grimlock no like him. Maybe me Grimlock help you Jazz find Razorclaw."

Good, Grimlock thought to himself. He had no love lost with the army... he had done his obligation to the planet, and had no desire to rejoin the Autobots. But he disliked Razorclaw. And that was as good a reason as any to do anything here in Kaon.

Besides, this might involve fighting. And Grimlock knew fighting...

(OOC: Springer, how much should/does Grimlock know about Razorclaw?)

"Already storing our findings Wheeljack. The data should prove most useful." Highbrow replied to Wheeljack.

While Highbrow waited on the data to finish uploading, he noticed a slight increase in the background noise of the room. It was faint, barely noticeable, but was there. As there were no tests currently running that would increase the ambient noise, Highbrow knew something was off, although he wasn't sure what was causing the noise.

"Wheeljack, the files have finished uploading and are being encrypted currently." He said, looking up from the computer he was at, trying to find the source of the humming sound he was detecting. "Wheeljack, are you currently running any tests that I am unaware of?"

Highbrow got up and started heading towards the opposite side of the room to find the source of the noise.

Thundercracker clenched his fists and growled quite audibly at the mention of Straxus, but he deactivated his weapons, and nodded towards a confused Dreadwing to listen to Skywarp.

Dreadwing nodded back and looked at Skywarp and spoke for the first time that day "Got it boss".

Grimlock shrugged. "Maybe we go to local estab- estabalish- eshtahbhl- hnn. Bar. We go bar. Ask right people right questions, we find him Razorclaw."

Why is he helping them? Grimlock wondered. What is in it for him? A possible fight, yes, and a way to relieve boredom... but...

"A-yup." Skywarp told Thrust, shaking his head. "I swear, sometimes I think the ground-pounders don't understand we Seekers are claustrophobic. Let's see them dropping through the air at supersonic speeds."

Still perched like a gargoyle, kywarp tapped Dreadwing's massive missile launcher. "Good, we're cooperating!" Skywarp chirped, grinning, optics bright and brimming as always, with that same burden-less outlook he saw life with. "Thrust, kindly relieve Blueboy of his guns, I'll take big momma's."

"We go thataway." Skywarp pointed to the service corridors, suppressing a shudder at the thought of spending time in a cramped room that might collapse at them any time... in the skies you never have to deal with this scrap...

And like that, the connection was terminated.

"Probably for the best," Predacon shrugged as Thunderwing revealed his ex-colleague's fate. "Wasn't anything left in that head of his anyway." When the other scientist pulled out the equipment he'd asked for, he smiled and grabbed a toolkit from his workbench. "Good show. That's exactly what I need."

Turning to Scorponok, he said, "Unexpected to you maybe. I know exactly what I'm doing, thank you very much. Some of us took our roles as mad scientists seriously while you were out playacting at being in government."

Tarannie? Tarantulas thought. Did Predacon just mock him or is he trying to be funny? Tarantulas could never tell. He wasn't much of a jester. "You insult the Polytechnic Institute and your own intelligence by calling me that," he spat. Tarantulas didn't like it when he was disrespected even if it was unintentional. "It's a good thing your work speaks volumes."

Turning to Scorponok. "Yes, yes," he chuckled while rubbing his hands together. "One is out on a field test as we speak, feeding me live data." He looked around the lab and noticed various projects that the two large mechs were working on. "Somebody outside of the Institute is making quite the progress with his research on protective shells. Much like the ones being worked on here." Tarantulas put his hands together. "We might have to put a stop to that soon..., but that's for later. How's work progressing here? Anything that would require my special talents?"

"Can't really say until we catch whoever did it," Dirge answered to Deathsaurus. He didn't really care much for all the cloak-and-daggar stuff that his employer had been into lately, but business is business, and sometimes you had to do strange things to stay in business.

And Dirge's business was keeping his employer around to keep running his own business. To those ends, he accepted the offered energon goodie to be polite, but he made sure to keep attentative to things happening around him, looking (and perhaps hoping) for any potential dangers that he'd have to respond to.

Scorponok shook his head at Tarantulas' little outburst. "We're mad scientists. We're supposed to call each other names. I'm Scorpy, you're Tarannie, he's Preddy and he's..." Scoponok waved a claw at Thunderwing. Thundery? Wingy? "Bob." Scorponok finished.

"You Jazz pay for me Grimlock's drink." the gladiator said, before transforming into his tank alternate mode, and rolling forwards. "Follow. Just over this bend."

Grimlock turned around, confident that Jazz and Rapido could easily follow his massive form. He headed towards a run-down bar. It probably used to be a small bunker at one time, but it was dilapidated, missing a roof at one part and had graffiti scribbled all over it. Written brightly in green neon lights of mismatched shading were 'THE BLACK DEPLOYER'. As with all bars all over the universe, one of the letters was fritzing out, and the 'P' was bent at an awkward angle.

Grimlock transformed, looming over the guards -- a short green jet holding a dagger like weapon, and a helicopter. "Step right in, mister Grimlock." the jet said.

Grimlock growled, and gestured at the Autobots to follow him.

Highbrow tuned out most of what Wheeljack said, until the other bot confirmed he was not running any tests, walking over to be just under where the humming noise was coming from. Not wanting to look up just yet, he walked a few more steps to the right and kept listening, confident he knew the exact location the noise was coming from, and quite confident he now knew what was causing it - some kind of spy.

"Simple curiosity." He lied to Wheeljack, trying not to raise suspicion. "And that is where my next inquiry is coming from as well. Do you have much experience piecing together listening devices, or determining where one came from? A friend of mine found one in his quarters not too long ago." None of Highbrow's friends had actually found one, but he didn't want to alert those watching, if they were listening, to the fact that he was on to them.

Tarantulas walked towards Scorponok's position and took a look around his work station. "Yes, Wheeljack is the one I'm referring to. He and his assistant are making way too much progress in the same field we are..

Tarantulas starts to pace around a little. "While I'm sure that it'll take him a while to develop the same level of tech that we have, I'm sure that he eventually will." Tarantulas stops and looks at Predacon, then at Thunderwing and back at Scorponok, ignoring anybody else that might be in the room.

"Right now, we control who gets what upgrades and such. With him playing in our field," -pauses- "it creates a variable that can't be allowed. Already he has supplied an Autobot soldier with a protective suit. While still a prototype, my Spy Bot has already reported that his preliminary tests were a success." Tarantulas slams his fist in the palm of his hand. "We can not allow any more of his tech to be supplied to anybody in Iacon!"

Tarantulas looks at Thunderwing. "Tell me, Thunderwing. Why do you have a problem with this overrated mechanic?"

Jazz watched as Grimlock and Rapido drove off. He shrugged. "Guess we are," he said in reply, then transformed and followed the others. "Hope he's not a guzzler or this is going to cost allot."

Reaching the establishment, Jazz transformed back again. He had seen his fair share of run down places in Iacon during his early years as a cop, but compared to this place, those were five star hotels. Still, looks could be deceiving and Jazz followed inside. "Let's see what we can learn here." He walked by the guards and nodded. "We're with that guy," he said and was allowed to enter.

Wheeljack scratches his head, having no clue what Highbrow was up to. "Are you suffering from energon depletion or something?" he inquired. "I think I can piece together a listening device if I really wanted to, but I usually don't. Never had to and I have too much respect for any other mech's privacy."

Wheejack stood up and took his tools to the work bench that Gunrunner was on earlier. "If you want me to trace a signal, I can always try. Never really had any reason to do it, but there's a first time for everything. I'll probably have to reverse engineer the original device." Wheeljack's face showed a slight frown on his face. "Why the questions though? You thinking of going into that business yourself?"

"1st is the fact he always thought he was better because he got the higher score in the acadamy and let us all know it. 2nd he stole some of my ideas for the shells, such as the neural uplink, and 3rd hes the one that blew the whistle and cost me my nobility and chances of reciveing the matrix" huffed the angrx jet.

Skywarp hopped down as Dreadwing ejected all his weapons. "Come on, Thrust, help me with this." Skywarp lifted Dreadwing's massive missile launcher and inspected it. "Hey, TC? If, by the off chance the Boss kills you... can I have this gun?"

He heard another figure approach, and swirled around, pointing Dreadwing's missile launcher... and lowered the weapon. It's the, ah, guy with the funny name! What was it now... Death's Arse? Deaths'R'Us? Death Source? Darth Sauce? It was death-something, aahh...

Resisting the urge to call Deathsaurus by any of the mis-prounounced nicknames he had thought up of, Skywarp teleported through the short distance to appear in front of the crime boss. "Heya, Deathie! Here to see ol' Megs?"

Death's Arse. Heh. Skywarp couldn't help the wide smile that bisected his face.

Scorponok shrugged at Tarantulas' dismissal of his little joke, but got serious. "As the only legitimate businessmech among those present... well, ex, but still... I agree with Tarantulas here. Plus, if he's helping the Autobots then, well, we'd have to kill him out of principle, don't we?"

"Ouch." Scorponok shook his head unsympathetically at Thunderwing's rant. "I hear you. One of my employees cause me to fall from grace as well. Though I suppose it's a blessing of sorts, since I get to devote everything to making things like Ginrai. Who, by the way, is not an abomination. He is a perfectly integrated mesh of technomatter and organic tissue."

Scorponok couldn't help but to chuckle at Predacon's words. "Why, if I didn't handle business and unholy techno-organic experimenting, you'd be out of business! Although to be fair, when I tried making a multichanger back in my Senator days I never managed to be able to create a sane one. Never thought about rewriting our softwares..."

The conversation took a turn towards getting rid of Wheeljack then. "Firebombing? No-oooo." Scorponok twirled his left claw melodramatically. "He wouldn't know it's us that did it if it's so. I suggest we go visit him, ransack his lab, get Thunderwing to put the fear of Unicron into this Wheeljack and then firebomb the place."

The Black Deployer

Grimlock, Jazz and Rapido went in unchallenged. The establishment was run-down like the rest of Kaon, and was nowhere near the quality of the Red Geist.

There was a throng of people in the relatively large area. The lighting was dim, broken by subdued red halogen lights that surrounded the table, as well as the holoprojectors near the bar. The crowd was clustered around the tables. Most were standing, for none of the scant chairs that were unoccupied looked safe enough to hold their weight.

Mechs of various shapes and sizes were clustered around their own tables. Some towered over even Grimlock, while some were Minicons which fit in Grimlock's palm. Most were dealing, trading objects of every kind. Energon, Syk, credits, information... every other mech looked shifty, especially with the low illumination dancing across their faces.

When the doors clanged open to admit the new arrivals, conversations drew to a halt immediately and two dozen arms reached into the shadows, no doubt to grab weapons... and relaxed when they saw the familiar face of Grimlock. Indeed, the throng near the entrance shuffled away awkwardly as Grimlock entered the Black Deployer.

A group of battered gladiators at one corner shrunk away, avoiding Grimlock's sight.

Murmurs rose again, as everybody returned to their conversations. A number of voices called out to 'King Grimlock!' but the large gladiator paid them little heed, other than a curt nod or two to those he recognized.

Grimlock stomped towards the bar, the crowd wisely parting before the bulky Transformer. "Cocktail." Grimlock growled as he placed a palm on the bar, singling out one of the bartenders.

"Heeeey, King Grim!" the bartender extended his hands, one still clasping a cylindrical jar with bubbling fluid, a wide grin plastered over his face. "Oy, that was a nice fahght ya did in the ahrena t'day! Oi made meself a whole lot a' cray-dits! Drinks are on the house, mate, fer you and your... ey, friends?" Cocktail indicated Jazz and Rapido.

"They? They me Grimlock's, ah, cousins. Apparently. Farm bots. Raised in Valihex. Bit dim. Here to see arena. Usual drink. Three." Grimlock spoke, shoving a reedy mech out of the way as he sat down on a chair in front of the bartender, and began to spoke in hushed tones. "Me Grimlock need information. You know Razorclaw?"

"Rayzowr-chlaw?" Cocktail's grin dissolved as he raised a finger to his nose and scratched it, while setting a plate of orange-coloured Energon goodies in front of Grimlock, before turning back to mix beverages. "Yeh and nay. The bugger ain't been here fer a coupla' mega cycles. Why ya lookin' him up, Grim?"

"He owe me, Grimlock, money."

"Ah."

"You know anything about him?"

"Still fehrryin' tha puhrple stuff, but I stopped caring ehvar since he stopped selling 'em ta me." Cocktail said, placing three jars of a bubbling pink mixture in front of Grimlock and the Autobots. "Ya might want ta ask Patchwork, tho'. He knows... lots of things."
