That is incredible looking. See, this is what Hasbro should be looking into, instead of terrible sh*t like FoC Bruticus. How come they can't do stuff like this?

Not charging $50 a figure and having as much time as they want to do the designs is probably something to do with it.

True, but when you look at the engineering HasTak are capable of, even amongst the Prime line, stuff like this doesn't seem such a stretch. Would it really escalate the price of a deluxe up to similar dizzying heights?

Its a moot point of course, the bottom really seems to have fallen out of the action figure market to the point now where stuff like Marvel Legends and Doctor Who figures are sold squarely to adult collectors through specialist retailers.

Well, the only thing I didn't really care for about G1 Menasor was the shoulders - he had those silly neck-stalks functioning as shoulders. While those gave him the ability to open his arms in teddy-bear pose, I hated the way they looked. Other than that, he was a bulky, armored looking brute, which I did like. I did wish there was somewhere to peg on the double-barreled guns from the various limbs' car molds though. The image seems to indicate they came up with something along that line of thought.

They could probably buy in designs at lower rates than maintaining average internal team members; never any shortage of talent happy to get their name in lights. By now in most areas there are a decent number of fans with madder skillz than official designers/writers.

Production costs, certainly -- but there's possibly scope with Takara. When you consider that MOTU Classics run to 30+ and still sell in the UK, and the reasonable successes of third party TF designs, it's not impossible.

Not impossible, but I'd disagree that the final product is something to judge this on; I wonder how many rounds of cost-cutting each Hasbro figure goes through before we see it? Plus I doubt many of the designers spend X months designing a single Transformer; it's almost certainly committee work and across numerous lines.

Committees don't often make for good anything, let alone engineering.

There are some great designs that have made it into the Classics/Generations/etc. badged lines. Setting aside that the FoC Combaticons look and feel quite knock-off-ish due to production values and colour choices, no-one could be bothered to sculpt feet on Brawl that would let the figure reliably stand up. Cost-cutting's still paint apps, electronics, a couple of plastic colours per figure and being able to generate parts on the same sprue, etc.

you know, it almost looks to me like the core of the legs are part of Motormaster and Breakdown/Wildrider just clip on to the fronts to give them form.

If thats true, I guess that makes for more G1 accuracy, except in the animation they were on the backs of the generic blocky Motormaster leg extenders :)

Fans Want It's third project, after add-ons for Starscream and Ironhide, is a full-tilt Jetfire pack for leader Prime.

Neat backpack, but not close to 90 USD neat before shipping.

I'm one of the few people that prefer ROTF Optimus neat, with no accessories, it seems

That Menasor looks great, definitely.

Menasor looks like shit, but that's because Menasor is one of the worst-looking Transformers ever designed. The pics I've seen of the four cars really impress me, though. Wildrider in particular is a thing of beauty. Not $60 worth of beauty, at least not to me, but these guys are among the few third-party toys that I'd call genuinely good.
