This was a fun project. I was lucky enough to get my hands (and paint brushes) on a VERY limited & rare crystal clear seeker (PITA to put together from scratch) thought I'd use the "clear" to my advantage and put a little creative spin on it.

They are just not right due to the block on the hip joint. So finally I can't stand it and decide to give him some surgery. Here it goes.

1. Trim or cut those two blocks off.


2. Now the two hip joints can position 90 degrees up (comparing to before that stops at mid point due to the blocks) that makes the whole leg can swing forward and backward normally.


3. Now Barricade can stand with straight legs. This provides much better balance and also gives him better poseability.

Anyways, on with the show.

I've always been a fan on Cybertron Metroplex. In a series that was rather limited in its articulation, Metroplex was able to do all sorts of poses. Add on top of that he was a triple changer, he's a pretty cool figure for the price I paid for him.

Now, I'm not great at creating my own custom figures. The best I can do is switch heads. But I am good at finding new fanmodes. As previously experiences with the custom Fortress Maximus featured over at Action Figure Customs Blogs, it is a good frame to start from, so I thought I'd see what I could make out of my Metroplex without doing any lasting damage.

This is what I came up with: a battle cruiser that, when compared to the Titanium Ark, can serve as a very dangerous foe.

]]> TF Kitbashing frenzy_rumble http://tfarchive.com/community/showthread.php?t=49104 ROTF G1 Ironhide repaint http://tfarchive.com/community/showthread.php?t=49101&goto=newpost Tue, 24 Aug 2010 06:53:59 GMT so i had a spare ROTF Ironhide voyager collecting dust on my shelf and i thought, "hey i should do a repaint" lol. i started by washing the figure down to prepare for the paint. i used testors red acrylic as the base and then i used testors sunburst yellow for the fenders. i also made him larger smokestacks from some old model kit part holders i had. i fixed his backpack so it would stay on the little tab thing permanently.I also switched out the head for the one from the first movie voyager because to me it looked more angular and closer to his G1 head than the current one. hope you enjoy ROTF G1 Ironhide =)

rumble619's Swoop really inspired me to get off my rear and give mine a go. It's a bit different from his so far, but they're both distinctively "Swoop". Mad respect to his work and his WIP Swoop! I basically wanted to do something new to keep my mind on some "fun" stuff instead of the serious crap going down with myself and my family right now (some of you already know what's going down).

I wanted to upgrade Swoop a bit, since he always seemed kinda small and thin. Once the Classics/Universe Seekers hit, I knew I would eventually do Swoop from one of them. I had originally planned to use one of my Acid Storm figures, but seeing as those are put aside for a future Aerialbots reshell project, I decided to go with rumble619's idea and use a Generations Thrust.

I pulled the wings, then cut off the tailfins and the front air intakes with my dremel (cut off wheel). I cut down the back of the legs, removing the rounded parts leading to the thrusters (basically squaring the legs off instead of the back being rounded). I then removed the cockpit/head section (unscrewed them from inside the chest). I shaved off the top tabs that originally set into the front air intakes of the jet, then shaved the rounded area on his back (the part that led up into the cockpit). I then cut and removed the small piece above his rear end (yes, his backside--lol). This allows the legs to swing back much better.

I took my G1 Swoop and unscrewed the wings (don't lose these screws or plastic washer pieces if you plan to try this--you'll need 'em later). I also unscrewed the black piece that fit onto G1 Swoop's back (this piece is also used). I took the small gray plastic pieces that were originally screwed in behind the diecast metal of G1 Swoop's chest (these pieces fit between the wings and Swoop's back). I took the Swoop wings and cut off the bottom section tight in the middle of where the bottom screws once screwed in--this opens it up a bit more so that the legs can still swing up some and not hit anything hanging down in the way. Once I had the parts I needed, I went back to the Thrust figure. I took the wings (I left the small tabs where the original landing gear for G1 Swoop was snapped in) and I shaved that piece down a bit, just enough for it to slide into the open groove running down Thrust's back (which was left after shaving earlier). I test fit the wings and found a good position for them that allows the Swoop dino head to still swing down (I also shaved a bit of plastic from Thrust's back to allow the head/neck width of the dino head to swing down easy).

Once I figured out where I wanted the wings, I took a small drillbit and drilled holes in Thrust's back (4 holes to screw the G1 Swoop wings into). Once I had those and made sure screws would fit, I positioned it and using the original G1 red washer pieces, I screwed the wings in place--Now here's the catch, I had to use 4 smaller screws--same diameter, just much shorter, to allow the arms to still fold into the chest and not hit the screws). Once I had them in place, I then took the original screws that held the black piece onto Swoop's back and screwed them back in. I did a test transformation and found that the legs now hit the wings a bit and I'm still working on those. I did shave a section from the backside of the legs to allow them to fold in even more, but I may need to add another piece to extend the thighs a bit to allow a smoother fold for the legs on the back. I've also considered leaving the legs at a bit of an angle to give it more bulk in alt mode, but that's still something I'm working on.

I then checked to see how the front dino head folded down onto the chest. It hit an area around the crotch, so I took a dremel drill bit and shaved out an area for it to fit and rest into in bot mode. I then took the Thrust launchers and shaved down the missiles to give a more rounded/small look. I took some round styrene tubing and cut a couple of pieces that would allow the launchers to peg into easily--I then glued those next to the old G1 Swoop launcher holes in the wings.

That's about it so far. Still doing some leg work on Swoop and I plan to use the Thrust head/face on this, just haven't done anything with it yet (what you see in the pics is still the G1 head/face).

The client is getting married in September and honored me with the commission of creating a "cake topper" for his wedding cake. He requested Prime and Elita-1, in a traditional pose. Neither transform (anymore) Both figures are 'fused' into these poses (minus the heads which can still move)

Prime was created using a Universe Prime (convoy) with a sculpted hat and bow tie. His left hand (which goes around Elita-1's waist) was modified to look as though he's holding her.

Elita-1 was created using a Fembot limited run figure which I picked up on ebay a few years ago. The figure was absolute poop as it was. very flimsy joints, limbs constantly falling off, etc. I made some mods to the figure, added the elita-1 style horns and color scheme. Also added a veil using some fabric.

Both figures are 'fused' together and the 6" base using epoxy and metal rods.

I like the first movie's Arcee better, but thought the unicycle thing is ok in moderation. I had to cut away a lot of material to make room for the extra joint, but it worked out ok. There's not a lot of room for the extension - maybe an inch and a quarter long and an 1/8 of inch wide. It's a bit flimsy, but it can stand when leaning on something.

I also made it so that the wheel can swing back and she can stand on her legs normally. Ravage was built using original G1 missiles added onto a Device Label USB Ravage, he's got an embossed faction symbol on his back as well.








Masterpiece / Articulated Laserbeak. Added ball joints to his legs, hinges so that the wings can fold. Head is retooled and on a ball joint. Guns on back moved closer together and re-pegged. Embossed Decepticon symbol and graphics on wings. YES he still transforms and fits in Soundwave's chest

To do him right, I started with an oversized G1 Soundwave (courtesy of kotoys.com)

Here is the list of modifications made to Soundwave:
- Plastic's been completely filled with epoxy to give him extra stability and weight.
- The articulated hands (all fingers move independently) are courtesy of Zildjian.
- The head was custom built using a variety of parts. (cast & available on ebay soon)
- The visor is clear red plastic and the head contains a red LED light, which runs to it's power supply and on/off switch in Soundwave's back.
- Soundwave's chest was also completely rebuilt and re-invented.
- Although "oversized" the chest was reconstructed to hold "regular" sized G1 cassettes.
- All details/mods were done w/ styrene.
- His waist also extends (telescope style) giving him another inch of height.
- His knees now bend back.
- His feet pivot to lay flat
- Decals were custom built and applied, most graphics are hand painted
- Embossed Decepticon symbol on chest is hand cut from styrene
