I like oil slick's alt mode, but his robot looks blocky... can anyone tell me what he is a repaint of? I know it's an Armada car, but I don't remember which...

Side Swipe, AKA The Crappiest Transformer Mold Ever.

Thanks, Bombshell, Like I said, the car looks cool.

Yes, I'll admit it. The car is cool.

As for the rest of it...

another tf fan 2004-04-10 05:27 AM

No kidding...I've seen honest to gosh BUILT TO RULE robots that look better than Oil Slick's robot mode. Oh well, Aguy that blocky looking won't be showing up at Curves...

Sir Auros 2004-04-10 06:45 AM

How the hell do they think they'll be able to sell that? It'll be twice the price of a deluxe figure, there's already a repaint of that Blackarachnia mold in the line, and at least the Armada packaging for Side Swipe fooled people into thinking it was halfway decent without the front halves of a car hood for arms...

We don't know that for sure. I mean, yeah, it's possible, but for all we know, they could sell it at the deluxe price.

Which has been out of stock for some time now, with no indication that any more will be available in the near future.

another tf fan 2004-04-10 04:19 PM

Well Blackarachnia may be out of production, but there seems to be no shortage of the figure where I live. Wal-Mart, K-mart, Target and TRU all have at least two of the universe Blacarachnia. I was surprised to see another epaint so quickly, then again, I guess I shouldn't be surprised... It is Universe.

every store i go has 5 armada thrusts and 20-45 sideswipes.
not even the kids are fooled by this toy.
and crystal widow looks nice in beast mode, but the robot looks crappy.

i pity the fool who will put this for display!

"We'll just let Bobo the colourblind stockboy pick the next line's colours this time. He hasn't had a turn yet..."

Anyone else thinking that they're just sticking the names of random colours into a hat and picking 'em that way?

Denyer 2004-04-10 08:10 PM

I think as a kid I'd have rather liked the set. Ten years on, I'd have long since given it away...

I never minded the Side Swipe mould. The car looks nice in purple too. Crystal Widow looks okay.

:eyebrow:

Is it just me, or does the box art make Crystal Widow look like she's giving Oil Slick the finger?

Anyway, the color's are horrid, and being as I already have both of them, I'm not even going to waste my time or money...

It doesn't help matters that another Side Swipe repaint will be in a different Battle in a Box set. It's a Decepticon named Treadshot, who's colors look far too similar to Oil Slick.

At least in that other set, there is Ultra Magnus. I even admit that I like the repaint of Smokescreen in those pictures from that link.

But this set does seem redundant. Hasbro seems to be just throwing out more crap to make people not sure of what they want.. or to make collectors spend more money. I'd rather them only have a few toys out, that way I can say I've got em all..

Can somebody explain how Hasbro make collectors spend their money? Surely it's completist wankers who make completist wankers spend their money?

If you feel the need to buy every Transformers figure regardless, you deserve everything you get.

Now that you're saying it...

I kinda like the Blackarachnia repaint, but I don't wanna fork out the money for the set. Especially considering that the other part of it is a Side Swipe repaint. Bah!
