Which is why I hope to see Reflector in the Collection series. About $50+/figure is way too rich for my blood.

hhmmmm it is agreat time to be a fan with money.

Strangly I'm not too keen on Stepper or Soundblaster. My current trend of collecting is based on childhood nostaliga rather than 'ooooh it was rare back then', I guess I'm still determined on the 'pre-movie' collectiuon and am avoiding most post movie reissues or originals.

However I'm ocassionally tempted on both as they are based on some of the earilest toys and might never be affordible again should I expand my collecting horizons.

Fascinating... anyone have comparison pics? ie, 1-2-3?

UW, is this what you were referring to by "Headmasters Soundwave"?

I believe it's just a term for merging things... it's Soundwave, with parts from the Headmasters figure [i.e Soundblaster]. Takara cunningly kept the **** parts from Soundblaster [the ridiculous hinges, and botched arrangment of the buttons], but without the expanded cassette-holding part. Well done them... The change actually looks uglier the longer you look at the figure... yes, I get it was inevitable, but that doesn't stop it looking terrible.

A reissue of Soundblaster sounds very cool.

Looking at some available evidence, reissue Soundwave also has the Soundblaster-style head:

Now, it's complicated a little given that Japanese-giftset Soundwave (VSY, packaged with Grimlock) may have been US stock, but the initial Japanese release of Soundwave had the characteristic merged buttons which carried through to Soundblaster. (One question is whether the regular Japanese Soundwave release also had the 'large triangle' head. Anyone have close-up pics of one?)

I'm looking at it mostly from the common-sense point of view: of the moulds Takara has, the Soundblaster one is most recent and therefore best candidate to take as many parts from as possible. Yes, some of these existed previously in Japanese releases, but the Soundblaster mould is likely in best production condition.

According to Archonia, he's going to come with Ravage and Rumble.

Not sure if we're talking "cartoon" or "toy/Marvel comic/Dreamwave/cartoon bible" Rumble, though.

Surely that sentence alone pretty much says which, right?

Unless Takara have something up their sleeve like an "anime Rumble" [i.e. the purpley-lavender scheme used in the cartoon, rather than Frenzy's actual colours] I can't see Takara changing the original toy release because of a consistent animation error in an old cartoon... Well, they didn't keep Hauler's original scheme, did they?

But the majority of Japanese fans most probably don't know Marvel Rumble, nor the cartoon bible... I'm also wondering whether BT Grimlock's character bio will follow Marvel/Dreamwave (& tech spec) Grimlock or cartoon Grimlock. :\

It seems Japanese fans probably have at least a passing knowledge of the Marvel comics. There was that Rodimus Convoy repaint named Primus, and there's a Primus in Superlink. Also, Vector Prime appears to be at least slightly inspired by the Last Autobot.

Think about how many American fans have seen all the Japanese shows. I'm sure plenty of Japanese fans have downloaded/imported the Marvel comics. The list of US/UK Marvel comics was included in the back of Generations, with translated titles as well. On top of that, the Dreamwave comics have been translated and imported to Japan officially. So I don't think any dedicated Japanese Transformers fans (the only ones who'd buy the reissues, anyway) are clueless about the Marvel comics.

I mean, just look at all the art done for Japanese G2. It was intentionally drawn to resemble the American G2 comics art.

Incidentally, the fans at the Japanese TF Image Board recently put up some pics of the "Last Autobot" from Marvel US issue 79 to point out the similarities with Galaxy Force Vector Prime, so...

According to HLJ, he's gonna be coming together with Jaguar (Ravage) and Buzssaw, contrary to previous listing that had Rumble in Buzzsaw's place.

Well, I have Buzzsaw, but I've been wanting a Ravage for some time. I'm sold.
