Much of canon suggests that Transformers have a very long lifespan, very slow aging, especially as adults, and can live for millions of years. Examples like Vector Prime an Alpha Trion who are truely ancient and have existed from the very beginning bear this out, but we also see that they do indeed age, and that includes physical degradation as their regernerative systems slow down, and environmental effects accumulate. So, yes, I woudl say it is possible for them to die of old age, but old age could take millions upon millions of years to achieve. A million years to us, could be like only a decade to them. and in stasis lock, they would be in a state of suspended animation, frozen in time, thus, their aging would cease.

I believe it'd be something along the lines of a system shut down. Your parts get too old, you begin breaking down, etc. Sorta like an old TV, or something. (Yeah, crude analogy, but y'all get the point, right?)

Or some sort of cataclysmic "die out" event before the end of the great war.

To be fair, all we can really be sure of is that none of the Maximals we see in the show fought in the war, and that surrviving Decepticons are rare enough for Primal to have to give exposition on Ravage. Cybertron could have been jammed full of Autobots for all we know.

Yeah, I'd say that would probably be because Prime kicked all of their arses either off Cybertron, or had a bunch of Deceps executed for warcrimes.

I think it's safe to say that it's theoretically possible for a transformer to die of old age. I mean, everything breaks down eventually, and in a UK Transformers, Kup reveals that there is a point where a transformer warrior just can't fight anymore, implying that there aspects of the transformer lifespan that do change over time, regardless of equipment or repairs.

However, It would probably be a rarity for a transformer to die of old age, with the endlless war they wage, it's more likely that a transformer will be blown up, melted down, or crushed into a cube before they even get to the transformer age for retirement.

Ger-ronny-doo ron ron ronny moe!
