That's pretty standard. You don't use contractions in formal essays unless they're in a direct quote of another source.

Hey, now you know...

I always wondered what exactly the other half of the battle was. I mean, obviously in combat situations it'd be actually shooting people the flip up, but if it's "smoking is bad". what is the other half? You know smoking's bad, and the other half is... what... shooting all smokers?

Wait, I'm meant to be swearing more because of the whole Graphy thing. Floppy. Ring. Shrubbery. Norks. Front bottom. Custard.

EDIT: While we're talking about quirks of language, and I'm swearing arbitrarily, how come "cockhead" never gained mainstream acceptance as an insult? Or "Shag off"?

"Arrrrggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

Brought to my mind (on bein hit) Road Rash 2 Genesis: "(a) whiiiiiiiiile"

Most times I thought it to be "whiiiiile (I was sleepinggg)".

Fair enough. At least it's a straight, logical answer, which is hard to get from people 'round here.

Isn't the other half of the battle taking action of some sort? Like, know about a problem, then take action?

Never said that English was one of my best subjets, pluse I know that all of the mark offs weren't from the teach being strict with the rules. I know that some if not most were from my own dam fault. On my papers that I do at home, I have my mom and grandmother go over the thing to make sure that everything is correct, but my English teacher did marked me down for forgetting to add comma or for some other rule. I know that my spelling is bad. I should use spell check more often. Thanks for pointing out my mistakes, I don't mean that in a condescending way.

I reccomend* getting a (palm-ish sized) talking dictionary. I found mine to be indespensible* for preparation* for SAT, GRE; and it served me well the years I was in university.

*Not bothering to open www.m-w.com to confirm spelling.

If a problem comes along, you must whip it.

EDIT: Also, Axe please don't take this the wrong way, but are you high? I seriously cannot comprehend much of anything you have posted in this thread.

Whip it good.

If the topic creator is writing a paper, I'd recommend asking your instructor about his/her preferred method or finding a way to avoid the problem (Cliffjumper's suggestion of using 'noun + of historical' would work).

Oh me gosh! I didn't realize until today that big D meant me regarding the "it's"<-->"tis" reversal. Of course it was deliberate. (download the) "cheker" was a mistake, and I really wasn't sure of those spellings (important things keep coming up, distracting me (and there is procrastination) --> (explanation of joke) "man, I must be in a hurry these days").

Red Alert games have the element of replaying history. In 1984, the guy in the cafeteria says "nex'" after serving.

hmm: people, check out Splatter House 2 on Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) if you don't remember it.
