Talking Gobots or no bots?

Does anyone here prefer or know anyone who prefers Gobots to Transformers? That's it really, I know I sure as hell don't but I have been looking at the toys on tfu recently and some of them are fantastic, I mean look at the freaking Rock Lords, they're my heroes, especially Nuggit, (Yes git). And look at this thing http://tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Nar...narliphant.htm

...Awesome.

Though I do prefer MASK to Joe...

Well, I know in Japan Machine Robo (the series Go-Bots was taken from) has a rather large cult following with people preferring it over Transformers.

But Go-Bots? I...really don't know. I'm sure there's SOMEONE out there who does.

Personally, if I ever make millions of dollars, I'm going to buy thousands of Rocklords and then use them to fill one of those Chuck. E. Cheese ball-vats, but with the Rocklords instead of the balls. And then go swimming in it.

Oh, and that one Go-Bot that turns into a Roll's Royce and has a tophat in robot mode...hardcore.

I think part of the reason for Go-Bots lack of popularity is down to the fact that people who can recall it at all probably misremember it as being Transformers anyway. Certainly in the UK both were on Timmy Mallet's show at about the same time which would have added to the confusion (Americans should note that Transformers was shown on a show that gave us an endless suply of "Before he was famous" clips of Mike Myers [The Austin Powers one, not the masked seriel killer one], the fact he at one point played second fiddle to a man with a mallet is just wonderful).

I can't imagine coming from the planet Gobotron helped...

But GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords is a classic

I wouldn't say I prefer them to TFs, but I do have a soft-spot for Gobots. Some of the figures are a bit bizarre, and the cartoon was **** (even compared to the very **** TF cartoon), but I really do like the figures... The larger Diescast cars (Super-Guardians/Super-Renegades, I think) are rather good if you like the configuration - I have Zeemon, Baron Von Joy (****ing genius!), and Bug Bite (had the last two as a kid, before my first TF - love 'em) and several figures are actually rather good. Some recommended ones: -

Baron Von Joy - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Bar...aronvonjoy.htm

Bug Bite - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/BugBite/bugbite.htm

Crasher (Rothmans version) - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Crasher/crasher.htm

Man-O-War - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Man.../man-o-war.htm

Psycho (I am desperately after one of these) - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Psycho/psycho.htm

Puzzler, the quite excellent combiner - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Puzzler/puzzler.htm

Royal-T - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Royal-T/royal-t.htm

Skyjack - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Skyjack/skyjack.htm

Slicks - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Slicks/slicks.htm

Snoop - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Snoop/snoop.htm

Stinger - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Stinger/stinger.htm

Throttle (a fantastic figure, better than any 1980s TF motorbike) - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Throttle/throttle.htm

Tux (Spengs' hero!) - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Renegades/Tux/tux.htm

Zeemon - http://tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Zeemon/zeemon.htm

Of course, there's a Hell of a lot of crap too - it would seem Bandai/Tonka were less discriminating about which lines they roped into than Hasbro/Takara, and the names are generally stomach-turning. But the good ones are often really well made, and lots of the smaller ones (especially the smaller military stuff) knock contemporary Transformers of the same size into touch... While some are so similar to TF characters you wonder who was copying who (same model cars turn out a bit), some Gobots were a little from left-field (forklift trucks, battleships, limos) and can pad out ranks nicely

Robo-tophat! Genius!

Aside from the Rocklords, he's the only Go-Bot I'd every actively pursue owning.

Cuz he's got a **ckin' TOPHAT!!

Characters like Tuxare what I adore about the Gobots. It may be camp but its great fun and makes him quite distinguishable. The really bad Gobots are for the most part, hilariously bad. Where as for the Transformers, the really bad ones such as Sizzle or Fizzle are just boring. So many of the Transformers toys are generic, often just relying on their gimmick. Obviously I prefer the Transformers but still, it would be nice if there wasn't so many similar humanoid Transformers in G1.

Gobots were fun to an extent. I liked Crasher, the red Renegade jet, and of course Cy-Kill. I had some of the toys and they broke really easily. I had the toy Cy-Kill twice, I think. Vamp is one of my favorite renegade.

Leader-1 was cool and Turbo could have been an Autobot. I also had a red Gobot car from Wendy's.

Battle Of The Rock Lords was a cool movie.

There are two things I didn't like about the Gobots though. The ridiculous names. Okay TFs had similiar but not like Cy-Kill, Spay-C and Tux! The other is the bendy fingers. The Transformers had more realistic joints and fingers.

Oh and one more thing. No (real) gestalts.

Still Gobots was pretty enjoyable and I loved the theme song.

Then I suggest you pay close attention to the PM you'll be recieving shortly...

I have to agree that Tux is clearly the best thing ever. Was in in the cartoon? And if not, why not Gawdarnit?

I have 1 GoBot. I got it years ago when I had only one transformer I think. T'was Good Knight .http://tfu.info/Gobots/Guardians/Goo...goodknight.htm . I just found out what it was called. I liked it at the time but I broke the legs off it because I thought they were too short. So, yeah I prefer transformers.

Worryingly I was half expecting a picture of Brit Ekland in a bikini to flash up.

Whilst diging out Mr. Psycho for Cliffy I was suprised at how good the box design for him was, very eminisant of the book design Takara's G1 reissues would use.

I had one, twice. He was the forklift. Can't remember the name for the life of me, but he was an orange forklift. Only Go-Bot I ever owned.

SPOOOOOOOOOONs!

I still have Loco and he is the awsomerest. I had a chance to buy a Leader 1 recently but it was broken and the lady wanted an insane amount of money for it...

She had a Grimlock, too. Whole. Loose but no accessories and $100. I actually squeaked when she showed it to me.

I'm a Transformers fan, through and through. Although I do own one Go-Bot. Saw it in a thrift store and just, fell in love. Oddly enough, it happened to be Crasher, the black version, anyway. Didn't even find out what she was supposed to be until early may of this year. Odd, isn't it?

I love Youtube. It's a great way to waste time on the internet.

My brother after seeing the clip:

"Rest in peace gobots...they're never coming back"

So that's what happened to Gobotron

Gobots, it was a tough old show, wasn't it?
