Yellow ALTERNATORS Tracks Rumor.

Post by Sir Auros »

I was in Target tonight looking for new Transformers and asked a guy working in the toy department to see if they had anymore Alternators toys since there weren't any on the shelf. He scanned the tag and said they had some in the back and asked me what specifically I was looking for. I told him I was looking for a blue Corvette and a white Mazda.

He went back there and came back out and told me he was going to be opening the boxes they had after he got permission from his manager, when he came back out his manager followed him out. He said they had a Jeep Wrangler, an Impreza, and a Viper, but no Mazda or blue Corvette.

This is where the post/story becomes relevant - when he said they didn't have a blue Corvette, his manager said, "We do have that yellow one." He responded with, "No you don't," and she said, "Oh right, they made me send that back."

So, assuming this information is true:

1 - There are some yellow Alternators versions of Tracks floating around somewhere.

2 - It was originally meant to come out sooner and was delayed due to the decision to change the color.

:wall: I really should've pestered the manager to find out more.

Well, I have a question.

Why not just call it Sunstreaker and be done with it?

Maybe because it looks nothing like Sunstreaker and looks entirely like Tracks?

So? Dead End doesn't look a thing like Dead End.

And Swindle doesn't look like Swindle.

Yes, but that doesn't mean there's any reason to complain that yellow Tracks isn't called Sunstreaker.

They are roughly the right shape of vehicle though...

I'm actually quite surprised there's been no original Sunstreaker re-release. The original mould is probably toast, but Sunstreaker was one of the moulds used for the European Classic Heroes—I doubt the company had a pile of early 80s stock lying around to be reboxed.

Test shots were produced. Not sure whether they actually went up until the final prouction stages which got boxed.

That's not a rumor. That's an established fact. ;)

Tracks is "#5" according to his box. Dead End is #6 and was released months ago. Also, Meister (#7) was released in Hong Kong (the Hasbro version of Meister, mind you) a month before they got Tracks.

Because they might be doing a store exclusive Sunstreaker repaint of Dead End, or so they said at OTFCC?

Well, I'll be talking to someone at Hasbro Germany next week. Maybe I can shed some light on that matter.

It's quite possible they destroyed the molds in the fourteen years since the "Classics" reissues... It's not that Hasbro Europe cares that much for Transformers, you know.

Different distribution channels... I highly doubt a Japanese Binaltech toy would end up at Target, especially with all that Japanese written on the packaging...

Talking about rumors...

I've been told by *someone* who claims he knows someone... blah blah...
that the MINI Cooper WAS indeed planned. They even did a prototype. He was supposed to be Bumblebee.

The problem was: MINI demanded "NO GUNS". Hasbro did the usual engine gun thing. MINI said "That's it, we're out."

Hmm.

Odd considering they could have made Bumblebee gunless.

Well, I still haven't been able to track down the manager who was working the other night, but the one who was on tonight looked it up in the computer a couple of different ways and said that he couldn't find anything about Hasbro recalling an earlier version of the figure and he hadn't heard anything about it either, so it's looking to be nothing more than a strange rumor.

Perhaps she was thinking about a yellow Corvette model or something?

1) Its fairly obvious that the mold for Dead End was intended to be Sun Streaker, as it has Sun Streaker's head. It appears a decision was made that there needed to be some villains in the alternator line to appeal to children.

2) I don't think it would be a good idea to call a yellow Tracks, Sunstreaker because Sunstreaker is supposed to be Sideswipe's twin, and they look nothing alike. You could easily stick a Dead End head on a yellow Tracks.
3) At least Swindle and Dead End are the right sort of vehicles. And Swindle does look somewhat like he did in the cartoon.

They were made in Japan, but not in the US because some fanboys decided to throw a hissyfit because he wasn't blue.

I thought Alternators Tracks was blue because they couldn't get the yellow plastic to come out right. It was too transparent.
