Post by Denyer »

Bit more info on the various trade reprints. Plus the Megatron origin miniseries and other stuff.

Will add spoiler-free version into the comics solicits thread later.

What is plagiarism?

See my 'Malevolent Dawn' story in the Creative section on Seibertron.com for an earlier version of the Megatron Origin story.

Ah, yes, but...

Wait until May and see if this old story (which I know well) is more similar to the new IDW story, or if my fanfic is more similar.

It's a generic concept (as is, say, all apocalypse science fiction) differentiated by dialogue, cast and assembly.

Can't see Furman bothering to steal from fanfic.

The "best of" collections seem a bit pointless if the contents list for the Battles one is representive- Random issues from multi-part stories.

According to the solicitations it's not written by Furman

But i would agree that the idea that IDW is robbing fanfics is ridiculous (as is the notion that just one fanfic delves into Megatron's background), unless there is something more to back it up than "i wrote this fanfic about Megatron's past so this is a rip off obviously"

Cool. Hadn't noticed that. Though he's still continuity coordinator (no chance of things happening like DWG1V3 where a writer flashes back to an earlier series without telling the writer of that series.)

Ah good. Hopefully with Furman busy with the origin of the Movieverse we'll still have a quality origin of the IDWverse.

Also, this is being reported elsewhere as a possible additional new logo for Transformers... personally I think it's just a placeholder...

Writers are not gods. Ideas do not grow on trees. Nothing is new under the sun.

Writers need to search around for material, especially in relevant sources such as fanfic. The normal practice is to cut the material into pieces (concepts, phrases, scenes, etc.) and rearrange them into original compositions...:glance:

I once wrote a short story and sent it to 2000AD comic. The main concepts in that story soon showed up in the comic and I got nothing out of it except these feelings - :wall: :( :eyebrow:   :nonono:  :wtf:

So is the thirty odd page length normal for the T:2006 reprints, or just for the first issue to cover the unever number of parts?

The last issue will have ads/previews cut to fit it all into five.

Which slightly skirts around all fanfic being very derivative in the first place... the main difference being that plagiarism requires intention, which fanfic has in spades but commercial writers actively have to avoid...

Strange coincidence

Post by snavej »

It is odd that online access to my fanfic section on Seibertron.com has been blocked for several days now, despite my reporting the problem to them. Why could this be?!

Because chunks of the site are or have been non-functional for the past couple of weeks? (eg, The message boards dumped when something went wrong.)

Of course, it could be part of a wide-reaching conspiracy.

Likewise. I hope there'll be some short story picks at some point, ditto for unreprinted stuff.

I was reading Razzle the other day and it sounded strangely familiar...

Checked the bit of that other site that works, and well... they've only gone and knicked your bumsex odyssey, jus tlike IDW took your Megatron story.

If I were you, I wouldn't publish anything on a free to use website ever again, or saving that sue IDW, or saving that wheep gently, or saving that kill yourself.
