Bit more info.

I had this in my inbox at work this morning:

http://www.toynewsmag.com/newsitem.php?id=214

Still in negotiations. Widely expected that it won't go through until next year.

Looks like it's a set deal by now.

EDIT: Ugh. Wait. Hasbro are manufacturing Transformers under license from Takara, right? What if Tomy decide to cancel the deal? What would that mean for the future of Transformers, including the upcoming movie?

I thought that licensing concerns were only with respect to molds that takara designed. In which case, they'd just have to make their own molds . . .

Takara and Tomy want to remain solvent in a competitive market. This means keeping and encouraging guaranteed sellers (such as the Transformers) which are popular not just in Japan, but outside of the country as well. The Transformers lines also have the added benefit of another company (Hasbro) who is not just interested in the main lines but can also help offset the costs in developing and manufacturing said toylines. Hasbro has the bonus of being a successful, money-making company whose partnership has helped keep Takara from going under these past years.

Logically, Takara Tomy should want to keep the Transformers license going.

With them merged it COULD mean more money, which means less reliance on repaints, meaning more original molds, which means the next TF show if they make one, could have a Megatron and Galvatron who are different!

Does this mean that the Takara name can still be used? Abit like here in the UK, the Asda superstore chain is owned by Walmart, so the sign outside my local Asda says something like "Asda, part of the Walmart family"

I've just realised something else, I work in a department store's Toy department, where we sell Tomy toys (little kids toys anyway) and Transformers which are licensed by Hasbro, what's going to happen to Hasbro, can they still make new Transformers?

The weird thing is about where I work, we have a company rep come in from time to time from Tomy, but we've never had a Hasbro rep, does this mean we might actually have a choice of what Transformers we get in, and not get random bots?

Hasbro have been cooperating with both Takara and Tomy in the past. There's no reason to believe that would have to change.

Can somebody explain it to us poor souls who can't really make out shares and blah blah blah.

Did takara and tomy merge and use the name tomy, or is takara officialy 'dead'? If that's the case, will Binaltechs and Galaxy Force toys continue to come out?
Few stuff in the UK to trade/sell. Measly sales thread.

Transformers toys will keep coming out. We'll just start to see a new copyright name embossed on the figures eventually, that's all.

Takara will be dissolved and absorbed into Tomy.

Kinda like East Germany was dissolved and absorbed into the Federal Republic of Germany in 1990.

Ironically, Tomy of America was bought out by Hasbro a few years ago, and now is fully 'integrated' into the parent company...

I seriously doubt Tomy is going to screw up and destroy the Transformers franchise in Japan, though I guess it's possible. Isn't the 'competition' they they have basically more of Sentai teams anyway?

Edit - Ack! And Zoids! How could I have forgotten?! This could have some good bennies on this side of the ocean after all!
