The cassettes are a mixed blessing. On the one hand, the reissue is good as it's something a number of people have been pining for for years. On the other hand, they're the same molds that were reissued with Soundblaster and Twincast, which does not portend well for the other molds.
I would like to see Frenzy/Rumble and Overkill with Slugfest since I don't have any of those and they're adorable.

The Cassette reissues... Like Clay, I am only waiting for Rumble, Frenzy, Overkill and Slugfest. And possibly Buzzsaw.
Ravage and Laserbeak I already have, thanks to Commemorative edition Soundwave.
Eject and Rewind I couldn't care less about. And the Cassette combiners ain't really strong toys. Ramhorn looks adorable, but Steeljaw is all meh.

Yeh, that's an awfully dull batch of figures - both the Cons have been out recently with Soundwave reissues (I mean, it'd be nice if they at least did Buzzsaw), and the Autobot robot isn't a particularly good mould (certainly not a patch on Rumble/Frenzy...). Would rather see the Japanese cassettes or at least Ratbat instead. That said, I do think on the back of these less than stellar choices, and those made for Kiss Players, the omens aren't good for the other moulds.

Sadly, if they could we'd probably have Mirage and the Dinobots by now... Still, if Takara wanted the money that badly maybe they'd have taken better care of the moulds in the first place...toyworks wrote:Ratbat & Rumble/Frenzy might happen if T-T could wrestle the molds away from the Chinese "perfect knockoff" companies.

That's what I mean: Soundwave/Soundblaster has been reissued with the bird and cat molds before, and the Blaster/Twincast reissues came with the lion and the Rewind/Eject mold.Cliffjumper wrote:That said, I do think on the back of these less than stellar choices, and those made for Kiss Players, the omens aren't good for the other moulds.
Even counting the oddball things like the Kiss Player set and the Ehobby Cobalt Sentry duo, only those four molds have been reused, and this reissue is of three of them.

Yeh, the omission of Rumble/Frenzy at any of those stages pretty much confirms to me that the moulds are dead, or at least beyond viable repair - I guess for Ramhorn, the Japanese cassettes and the '88 combiners there's a bit more hope, especially as Takara haven't touched most post-Movie stuff since that whole God Ginrai fiasco. But then it makes little difference if something's not being reissued because Takara sold the moulds to fund buying lolita porn, or simply because they don't want to - either way, they probably aren't coming out... I guess it takes a bit of money to clean up moulds even if they're basically intact.Clay wrote:That's what I mean: Soundwave/Soundblaster has been reissued with the bird and cat molds before, and the Blaster/Twincast reissues came with the lion and the Rewind/Eject mold.

Yeah, they managed to keep Star Convoy intact for whatever reason. I'd guess the 1986+ tapes are in decent shape, even if momentarily misplaced.Cliffjumper wrote:Yeh, the omission of Rumble/Frenzy at any of those stages pretty much confirms to me that the moulds are dead, or at least beyond viable repair - I guess for Ramhorn, the Japanese cassettes and the '88 combiners there's a bit more hope, especially as Takara haven't touched most post-Movie stuff since that whole God Ginrai fiasco.
But yeah, the Frenzy/Rumble mold would have been tossed in with any of the Soundwave/Blaster reissues by now if it were up to snuff.

That brings up an interesting point. How do they keep Star Convoy, Landcross, and the Micromaster Six-Combiners and somehow lose the likes of Victory Leo and Liokaiser?Cliffjumper wrote:Yeh, the omission of Rumble/Frenzy at any of those stages pretty much confirms to me that the moulds are dead, or at least beyond viable repair - I guess for Ramhorn, the Japanese cassettes and the '88 combiners there's a bit more hope, especially as Takara haven't touched most post-Movie stuff since that whole God Ginrai fiasco. No longer looking for RID Dreadwind, but I still need Smokejumper. I'm also in need of Mammoth Nemesis Prime's tail piece, as my figure lacks it. Send me a PM.

I just made another point. Landcross is a Victory mold, and the only Victory mold reissued. How do they lose an ENTIRE LINE aside from one set of molds?

Whoa, hold on - who said they lost the rest of the Victory line? Do w have any confirmation on that at all? The main reason most of Victory and so on isn't out is, AFAIK, because it's deeply unpopular in Japan. It'd be the equivalent of Hasbro reissuing the Vehicle Pretenders or something. Worse, actually, as the Victory toys are big and expensive on top of being disliked by the audience.
One of the funniest things about Japanese Transformers is that while Western fans drool over the likes of Star Saber, Overlord and Dai Atlas, the Japanese fans aren't interested in much beyond the American cartoon. Landcross got through as an extension of Micromasters (which did well to being small and cute), while do I have to explain why God Ginrai and Star Convoy came out?
