TAKARA STATE THAT YOU ARE NEVER, EVER GETTING A GOOD RATCHET TOY

Post by Weekly World Transformers »

In response to the lukewarm online reception for Masterpiece Ratchet, Takara have finally officially confirmed that they will not ever produce a toy of the character that is any good.

"We like to keep close links to the internet fandom," A Takara-Tomy mandarin bleated, "so we're always keeping an eye on feedback towards figures. And every time we do a new line featuring legacy characters gets everyone'shopes up just that bit that they're finally going to get a good Ratchet toy. We generally prefer to let this anticipation build while we put out a few months of good stuff and the Ratchet fans start getting all whipped up.

Then when the pictures of the sad reality hit they enter this strange stage of denial, claiming that it really, really is very good. Then there's the resigned stage where the Ratchet fans buy the figure anyway, hate it as much as they hate themselves and pin all their hopes on the next Ratchet."

Ratchet has a long history of being given really shit toys since the first ever series of Transformers in 1984, when a Marvel intern accidentally sat on the prototype after drafting the character's control art the night before it was due at the factory. Takara engineers then rebuilt the figure in about eight minutes, reasoning that it was sold in vehicle mode and that no-one would notice it was a Telebug riding a tea trolley until after they got it home.

Notable subsequent Ratchet hijinks have included an amusing Energon recolour and 2009's attempts to fit the most obvious join lines ever on a single Deluxe figure.

Worse than I remember, although still better than Supergran.

Think I might be conflating it with Samurai Pizza Cats...
