Favourite cover?

Drop the Maori rubbish, lose the language, add a violin, cut the transexual troll doll and let that pumping KLF-style chorus free.

OMG, I LOVE this. I am going to listen to this over and over and over again.

I almost came into this thread empty-handed just to heap love on that version of Gold Digga, but then I remembered this!

Fairly certain I'll be back. I love covers.

I hated this song as a kid. It freaked me out. And now, I have the video to freak me out... Jeebus.

I don't think I've heard (or at least tried to hear, I got about half way through) the cover of My Way by the spokesman for Country Life* butter before. That's pretty bad, it's nice he's having fun but it's a song that really needs to be sung in tune rather than screeched and... well it's a bit of a soft target for a piss take isn't it?

I'd rather hear Sid Little do a version.

[Yes, I know this only confirms my status as a musical philistine]

The BBC have just put up their new "Get loads of celebrities to sing a song" charity thing. Not only is the song a cover, but the video is a fairly straight up remake of the one for Perfect Day they did back in the '90's (without checking I'll bet there's at least a couple of the same people in both as well).

It's always good fun trying to spot who is who though. Apologies to Sades who probably won't recognise anyone, did they get the Foo Fighters in Canada?:

*Though I like to think that, rather than having gone all Ben Elton in selling out his former principals, he only did those ads so he could really throw the emphasis on the first syllable of COUNTry.

Sorry if you're reading this Johnny. My respect for you is restored.

I did get the right one out of Little and Large who liked to try and sing his little song whilst the other one pratted about behind him in a Deputy Dawg hat, right?

Right?

Right?

On the loop at work the last few nights we've had the worst ever cover of Imagine I've ever heard, and I once heard a pub singer forget the words. Brilliantly it ends with the singer (who knows, maybe it was the other Sex Pistol) going "That's for you John!". I'd like to imagine that if John Lennon were in heaven he'd desperately wish to break off from apologising to Paul McCartney's ghost in order to go have a cry.

And from some back and forth between Cliffy and I on Facebook, what is clearly the greatest cover of All Time.

And certainly the highlight of Walliams and Lucas' career.

The thing to remember is that in the full episode:
SPOILER! (select to read)
This is being put together for a blind charity.

I had SO MUCH FUN putting this together. These covers all make me happy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=torc9P4-k5A - DevilDriver, "Sail" (AWOLNATION cover). I like this song far better than I did the original.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lgx-OoctOU - Frente! , "Bizarre Love Triangle" (New Order cover)- beautiful, stripped-down version.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3N1MlvVc4 - Gary Jules, "Mad World" (Tears for Fears cover)- Tis nice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y25SgIwy2BE - All Time Low, "Umbrella" (Rihanna cover) - ELLA ELLA ELLA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNo7ZZryuSQ - Type O, "Summer Breeze" (Hall and Oates cover?) - I'm glad this wasn't here so I could post it because I love Type O.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isB3W9kfZ0c - Goldfinger, "99 Red Balloons" (Nena cover). This was an obvious one for me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fj0vLSdZJEM - Disturbed, "Shout" (yet another Tears for Fears cover) - Another obvious one for me. To me, anyway.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkn1cWi03FA - Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver (Dio cover) - I'm more familiar with this version than I am the original. Like I am with the Type O covers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGRWxoJtQP0 - New Found Glory, "Kiss Me" (Sixpence None The Richer cover) - The original is one of the few songs I can sing for karaoke so I'm a little attached to it. This cover isn't great but it's a favourite.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAt9QTmVc7Q - Orgy, "Blue Monday" (New Order cover, again) - Probably not terrific by music snob standards, but I like it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgbNymZ7vqY - The Muppets, "Bohemian Rhapshody" (Queen cover) Because Muppets :) "MAMAAAAAAAAAA...."

**** that, it's a 90s classic and rock night staple. :)

Lots here to catch up on at some point.

Inorite? But I think it's been overplayed, sometimes people don't seem to like it.

[insert vid of Out Of Your Mouth's cover of Madonna's "Music" here, because I can't find one]

Summer Breeze was by Seals and Croft originally. Wrong ___ & ____ band. :) And the cover by Type O Negative is awesome!

Einsturzende Neubauten's version of Sand by Nancy Sinatra

Laibach's "The Final Countdown" by Europe and 2525 by Zager and Evans. In fact, Laibach's entire album "NATO" is pretty much all great covers.

And, because I simply can't post this one enough:

I know there are tons more, but I've got other stuff to do right now.

I had that on 12" clear vinyl, came in a clear sleeve with what appeared to be lube in it...

I miss novelty packaging on records. Stupid CIN chart rules spoiling singles for everyone...

ALSO!!!

Voice Of The Beehive ' I think I love you' - Partridge Family

Garbage 'Butterfly Collector' - The Jam

Apologies if you're offended by boobs. Silly arty still from the You Tuber whom uploaded that.

I'm putting this on, just 'cos its so awful ... Duran Duran doing Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five's 'White Lines' (or how to completely piss away all the goodwill built up following your superb comeback album that rescued you from oblivion with an album of ill-judged covers. Hooray!)

Up there with Pat Boone's version of 'Tutti Frutti'
