Skywarp reissue?

Post by toatha »

When I just now rearranged my Transformers, I suddenly realized that my Skywarp didn't have have the Takara stamp on his leg. Does this mean it's a reissue? :(

Twice.

Once by Takara in 2001 as a limited convention run.
Once by Hasbro in about 2003 as part of their commemorative series IV.

I checked mine, and it has Hasbro and Takara labeled on it, so it isn't that one.

Chances of having a convention figure and not knowing bout it is very low...

Nope, not really at all. They were distributed at a convention, but there's this thing called a secondary market that could have easily seen a loose one mixed in - the two-packs were all over ebay on release.

Of course, I'd have said the chances of someone not doing any research and finding out that there was a mass-retail reissue warming shelves in most of the Western world before saying otherwise were very low, which shows just how much I know. When will the clever/dumb balance be restored then, Egg bastards?

By the time stuff's been hawked around eBay, provenance is often unclear (and there's an increasing number of bootlegs on the market -- if they're taken out of packaging it gets harder to track what you're getting.)
