Direct Connect Leechers Poll
Direct Connect Leechers Poll
OK I want peoples opinions on this...
Some people dont mind the 100+ hub/2 slot people, but personally, I really hate the idea of someone coming in, taking my files and not contributing...
At the moment, ive not been asked by TFArchive to kick people from the hub who are doing this, but I want to be able to do that - Thats one of the factors that I get messaged about the most, now that porn sharing is slowly being eliminated.
You can ask people to cut down on the number of hubs, but chances are, because they are in so many hubs, they wont have a clue as to which one has messaged them...
So im putting it to a public vote... decide yes or no (for everyone who uses Direct Connect) do we kick them out or not...

Why not just script them out like other hubs do?
It would make your lives a whole lot easier!

The scripting thing is a good idea, but I dont think that TFArchive knows much about Visual Basic (the language of the scripts) and i know for a fact I dont...
So unless someone can supply a script, theres nothing much else we can do...

I would still like to know peoples opinions on this matter, though ive decided to resign as an Operator from the DC hub due to a major difference in opinion.
If the hub rules decide to change their policy to that which the general public wishes to see, then ill be glad to come back.

I dont think they should be kicked, some of them could be in the same situation as me, where you can only upload so much within 1 month, then you cant upload anymore without your isp complaining. So some people will share their stuff early in the month and then not share anything else because they could be reaching their limit. So I dont think leechers should be kicked.
What do you class as leeching?
Sure, being in the 1 hub with 1 slot is also a class of leeching, but can be understandable if you have ISP problems.
Being in 100 hubs with only 1 slot is going completely against the 'file sharing' principles.
There is absolutely no need to be in that many hubs at once - if you cant find the file your looking for, the leave the current hub and go to another - if you cant upload because of ISP reasons, should it matter that someone in the old hub you were at can view your file (cos ill bet that someone in 100 hubs with 4 slots open would prove nigh on impossible to connect to)

I believe that I may be considered aa leecher, but I have my reasons. I'm always only on 1 hub at a time. I may only alow 1 upload at a time, but I only do one download at a time, likewise. I have a connection worse than 56kb/s, so my connection's bad enough when I'm just dl'ing something, It becomes a LOT slower if I'm being uploaded from as well. This is my reasoning for only having one upload at a time. Plus, i'm so slow I don't know why anyone would want to dl from me anyway. I'm sorry if this is what you consider leeching. But, in your poll, I voted ban the leechers.
Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly, the ill deeds along with the good...and let me be judged accordingly. The rest...is silence.
No, once again - The class of leechers im voting to try and get rid of in the hub is the type that are not accomodated in any of the major hubs in the entire Direct Connect network - the multi hub leachers, brought on by the Direct Connect ++ client.
Those that are forced to have low upload numbers (limited bandwidth) are not the problem... its those that have limited numbers of slots, and are connected to hundreds of hubs at once...
The chances are, these will not ever be able to be connected to - in theory if you work on an average number of 100 people in a hub, then there will be possibly 1000 people trying to connect to someone who is in 100 hubs at any one time. Usually these people have 4 slots open (to get past some bots that automatically kick people who share less than 3 slots) but ive seen people on there who are active in 150 hubs and have 1 slot open - please dont tell me that can be classed as 'fair sharing' if they are taking your files...
For instance, there is a user in there at the moment connected to over One thousand hubs - if this is a true figure or a hacked client I dont know...
How many slots does this person have open ? 3...
After kicking everyone in the hub yesterday who had over 100 hubs with less than 5 slots, at least 1/3 of the users were kicked... and what did I get but a tonne of abuse from one of our other operators where I was only trying to keep the hub as accessable for the people who wanted to share files.
The problem is, they automatically came back because of the DC++ client, and there is no way without providing a script that they can be removed from the hub...

I'd say have it as a rule for a month, and constantly kick them so that they read the rules and know about it, but then even that isnt going to help much if they have 100 windows open. Hmm I would say ban them but then I would also want some kind of warning and it is hard to warn them if they arent paying attention. Oh well their loss for being too greedy. Maybe we should have a min 2 or 3 slots per hub.
