So we all know (hopefully) about Hasbro buying the Microman and Diaclone lincences from Takara and turning them into the Transformers. Then they asked Marvel to help them promote their newly created Transformers. Also, there's the rumor of John Romita (junior?) being involved in changing the character designs for the cartoon while Floro Dery claims to have created the cartoon designs himself. But who came up with the background story?
Interestingly enough, in one issue of the German version of the Marvel comic, there are some editorial pages who tell about the story of the Transformers and claim that Marvel's then-EIC Jim Shooter asked none other than Denny O'Neil to develop a background story for those "fascinating toys"! Yet, since I didn't find any confirmation for O'Neil's involvement anywhere on the web, maybe some of you can help me? Was O'Neil actually involved and if so, how much can be credited to him?
