How long have you had your current email address?

Post by Notabot »

Clogs' discussion of spammers got me to thinking about this. I know people who change their email address almost as often as they change their socks, and I realized that I've had the same one for quite a while. Turns out I've been at the same, active address for over 10 years now.
So how long have you been at yours?

The Yahoo! account behind my flashy domain one is about 5-6 years old. I get minimal spam, TBH.

Nice... I'm on my third Yahoo! one, a legacy from when they used to have a fairly severe (in retrospect) storage limit, and you had to basically move on when you'd used your 5MB or whatever. Used an ISP one once, but it was a nightmare sorting everyone out when I switched.

Same here pretty much, though I was on the internet over a year before I actually got an email address. I remember paying about $100 for my dial-up modem, installing it, being all excited, then realizing I had no idea what to do with it. I wound up calling the store I bought it from and, after talking to 3 different employees, got the number of a local BBS. It was completely lame, but I thought it was so cool that I could see something on another computer all the way across town and play trivia games. (And get hit on by a pedophile, though that wasn't as cool :() And it only took about 2 minutes to connect, and the connection actually worked about 60% of the time. :) Ahh, the good ol' days!

I remember by-the-minute billing - the comic scans on this place probably cost me a few quid, to be honest. Considering I get tetchy when a ~250MB video takes more than 10 minutes to download, I'm amazed I ever had the patience to persist with dial-up in the first place.

About 7 years now, ever since I started using the internet. Has also stayed as my username for all accounts in [non-porn ;)] sites over the years.

Had mine since January 2000. You think the Yahoo limit was severe back then, I'm sure Hotmail's was 2Mb.

I think Yahoo mail is great. It's gone down on me four times (matron!), but other than that it's been tip top, and it's spam filter is excellent. And it's free POP3 which is great for all Outlook/Entourage users on dial-up.

I remember the nice wording when I signed up, something like "It's yours for life, take it with you wherever you go..." I always thought that was a nice touch, you know, a nice little bit of friendliness in a porny expanse of black nothingment.

What's the maximum amount of time you can leave a Yahoo account dormant before they automatically close it down?

Had my home e-mail addy for maybe 6 years. My work e-mail I've had since I moved to an office using the 'new' generic computer system, which has to be about 8 years.

Typical Capricorn, me: very conservative. I would still like to meet my mystery clone-spammer with some extreme prejudice on hand.

I got my Hotmail with MSN a while ago, and I had my Verizon Yahoo address for a few years before that.
No longer looking for RID Dreadwind, but I still need Smokejumper. I'm also in need of Mammoth Nemesis Prime's tail piece, as my figure lacks it. Send me a PM.

I've had my Hotmail address since 2000. I think the oldest email I have saved is from November of 2000.

I've probably had mine for about five years now, not long before I started posting here. The address is a bit embaressing to me now being last second desperate choice based on a nickname a old friend has for me but which must make me look a loon to anyone else.

About six years. Using a domain makes it easy to open/close aliases as needed. Also have older throwaways.

I've had the SociopathicAutobot gmail for about 4 years now. The real name work/school account is a year old.

However old Gmail is. I got the gmail account as a beta tester, back when it was hard as hell to get to be a beta tester for gmail. I can't recall exactly, but it seems like at least 5 years, but I have a terrible concept of time.

My first email address was deleted by Hotmail a few years ago, so the oldest one I have now is from July 2000.

I've moved addresses a few times due to spam or closing down old websites, I generally try and keep the spam-ridden ones for a while until everyone I know stops mistakenly sending things to it and then just leave them.

I've had a hotmail account since 2001 but it's only used for MSN and not actually email. I have had my current gmail account for about six months now, though the new webdomain email is what I use (all the gmail forwards to it) and I can use it through the website.

Gmail you get minimal spam I find, my old yahoo one which still works gets minimal spam now, but there was a time it got hammered forcing me to find another address.

My main email address I've had for between 12 and 15 years I think. It was when i was still in school, before I was in the sixth form I think, which was 12 years ago and I know I've been able to hang on to it since then. My latest email address has been a couple of years.
