What would you like to have happened after the events of Watchmen? (untagged spoilers)

Post by Prowl1984 »

if you haven't read watchmen leave this place and never come back...unless of course you've read it...then you can come back.

OK, first off, i'm not trying to find a better or different ending to watchmen, it's perfect as it is, conclusive with a slight bit of ambiguity. i'm just interested to hear peoples theories about what would have occured after.

We know that Veidt's plan initially worked but would his vision of Utopia realistically come to light or would the publication of Rorschachs journal ruined it?

Nite owl and Silk Spectre have changed their identities but are they still carrying on with heroics or trying to put it all behind them?

Did Dr.Manhattan actually go and create another human race somewhere in the universe and thus give us Battlestar Galactica?

will i ever stop asking questions instead of answering them?

no?

I think it’s better not to know what happened at the end.

I don’t really want to think about it because either way it’s a crapsack world.

very true, and like i said the ending was perfect in every way, i'm just trying to get a bit of a "what if?" thing going on. i found myself getting so attached to all of the characters that i found myself wondering what happened after, not necessarily wanting or needing to know, but just curios

All I wanted was Dr. Manhatten to blast everything into scrap and get it over with so he could start again. That would've been cool. But the ending is just right as it is; I wonder what the film will do to it?

rumors are that the psychic squid thingy has been replaced with a nuke going off at the end, easier for cinema going audiences to comprehend but it kinda defies the whole point of Veidts plan

I’m sorry but if they do that it will be ruined. I know I sound like a fanboy complaining that Storm isn’t claustrophobic enough, Wolverines too tall and Optimus Prime doesn’t have a faceplate (and he’s a gorilla) but the whole point of the faked alien invasion is that it is something extraterrestrial that the US and Soviet Union band together to stop. If it were just a nuke then the US would assume that it was the soviets and it would cause WWIII.

Where is your source?

If it's the trailer only, it's probably wrong. It's not the best quality, but the explosion in the city has a distinct "energy" feel to it, rather than a nuke-esque mushroom... it simply looks like they've added in a bit of property damage for drama purposes.

Shocking isn't it? I mean the mere notion of the film adaptation of an Alan Moore work spectacularly missing the entire ****ing point. What kind of world could that happen in?

SPOILER! (select to read)
Hmm, that doesn't sound like they just use a nuke in place of the squid (something which wouldn't work in plot terms, as the Americans would just assume it was the Russians, and bye-bye world) - I'm guessing from the hints Adrian somehow uses Jon to trigger the explosion (which would explain why the explosion in the trailer looks nothing like a nuke). The whole squid development backdrop is just the sort of thing that'd have to be cut out of the film to keep it lean, and without the backplot, even if Adrian does the exposition, it's a hell of an Asspull (personally, the actual creation of the squid is probably my biggest problem of the comic)... I dunno, if a plot element had to be tweaked, it's one I consider fair game, as long as the film solution is smart
My biggest problem is that the thing looks like MTV-meets-The-Matrix action figure porn. I'll deal with any other problems if I'm actually able to watch the thing without wishing a death on the Wachowskis.

Bottom line is that if you want something exactly like the comic, go read the bloody comic.
