Cybertron Downshift?

Post by Nevermore »

http://www.hasbro.com/transformers/defa ... =DOWNSHIFT

Placeholder page, found by TFW2005 member AsswhompSupreme the same way Metroplex, Brimstone etc. were found before. Confirms name usage, could be for Universe Downshift (Energon Downshift repaint), but then, "Snow Cat" didn't work in any combination.

EDIT:
Looks like we found him.

The name "Downshift" possibly being used in Cybertron?

Could be either the Clocker or Hot Shot repaint, which would make the Universe release a bit superfluous. But, I rather like the trend of dramatic repaints being new characters (or at least different characters) rather than power-ups!

so 2 Downshifts this year?

meh, I can understand they have to use a name often, but at the same time??

it looks more like they have no inspiration or that ALL other names have already been taken (all other names that could be invented as wel then :p)

It's not that so much as that any new name that they can come up with takes a lot of research and legal fees to properly protect and secure these days. Makes more sense, financially, to reuse a name 'not currently fielded in the main line' than it does to secure a new one.

That doesn't mean, however, that it's okay to have a combiner team named 'Prowlus Maximus' where all five pieces and their Minicon partners are all named 'Prowl'...

LOL, you never know, there are a lot of Prowls out :p

personnaly, I think the US should make less strict rules about toynames, (not toyline names but individual characters)

just like humans, there are many with the exact same first and last name, what would happen if I decided to register/trademark my name? I'ld sue every other dude with my name (just kidding off course)

The rules themselves are actually rather lax. The problem is the 'lawsuit battle', where a company will simply try making the fight itself, legally, just too expensive to maintain, even if they're clearly in the legal (if not ethical) right.

Some would say this is awful sharp Karma, since Hasbro and Parker Brothers engaged in this an awful lot back in the 1970s to other game makers and toylines. Look up the 'Anti-Monopoly' game for more information on the practice, and how we legally got where we are on such matters.

I should have been a little more careful with phrasing. We've been told that the line will largely be repainted, and there's no emphasis (other than Galvatron again) this time out on 'repaint = powered up version' as there was in the previous three lines.

Also, we know that the scouts and deluxe figures are 'light' in assortments, though they're the best sellers in the US. Given all that, repaints of them seem inevitable.

But, no, no one should take this to mean, for certain, that Clocker is 100 percent going to be repainted at this point, and that that repaint will be Downshift. It's /likely/, but not definite.

So Cybertron Wheeljack is based on a '70s Chevelle convertible or made up?

Either way he looks kinda cool.
Reminds me a bit of the Alt version, because of the way it transforms.
Ah...forget it!

Chances are he's not going to be called "Wheeljack".

Good design, needs paint scheme. This one may be a good model for a repaint to wheeljack colors and design

Curious to see what the paint scheme will be, but I'm loving the design. The shoulders seem to incorporate Wheeljack's Alternators shoulder style, and the Seventies-style muscle car take looks great. Hope it isn't that ugly green and orange though.
