I know energon cubes were more recently shown as reddish purple in TFA. But the color of energon itself within the cubes?

For that I would suggest Beast Wars as a reference because that was crystalline energon in an unrefined state. If I recall that was more bluish or bluish-white.

Well, the energon tubes that Wheeljack and Bumblebee were grabbing in the beginning of episode 1 is kind of yellow orange.

In the energon series, it was yellow or orange when unrefined. I think in G1 it was purple (the decepticons were drinking it, so I'm assuming it was refined). Of course, there are also the red and green energon stars. Heck, it practically comes in a rainbow of colors.

Also in g1 they squished the cubes down into sparkly paving slabs.

Standard, G1-brand drinkin'-Energon, like wot they kept in cubes, started out as being an iridescent rainbow colour for most of season 1, until it settled into the pinkish-purple that it's been pretty consistently portrayed as since. Presumably, though, it was purple because at the time, it was a Decepticon-only thing (and all the Decepticons' junk is purple - bases, energy blasts, gizmos-of-the-day), before stories started depicting the Autobots using it during and after the movie. Note how the Autobot conductors seen in MTMTE were the standard Autobot-orange.

G1-brand purple Energon appears in Animated, and the crystals and various Energonny things in Beast Wars are all purple was well, albeit a more blueish purple at times.

The Energon of, er, Energon, was a golden ore. When properly processed by the Autobots to remove its harmful traits so it could be converted into useful forms (like liquid medicinal baths, solid-energy stars or weapons or plasma beams for their Energon towers) it turned red. When munched on by Terrorcons and converted into stars and weapons and things within their bodies, it DIDN'T lose its harmful tendencies, and turned green.

Depends on the series, and what type of energon it is.

Standard energon is, in my oppinion, neon pink. Crude energon (as seen in War for Cybertron) is Blue-White. There is also red, yellow, purple, and black energon as seen in the Energon series. In its native form, energon has no natural "visible" colour, as it is nothing but altered stellar radiation.

Aside: given that G1 couldn't keep Rumble and Frenzy's color schemes sorted out it may be safest to say that energon does indeed have a color ... but nobody's quite sure what it is. ;)
