Alternators Sightings & Bragging Thread

Post by Sir Auros »

Right, so since the Energon & Alternators thread got so big and isn't quite as relevant now, I decided to just move the Cybertron sightings into their own thread and start a separate Alternators thread.

Let's also remember the significance of these threads. It would be particularly helpful if people would state the city and state where they find the figures they're bragging about. Let's also try and keep the discussions about the figures to a minimum since we do have an entire forum here where you can start threads just for that purpose.

thanks,
Sir Auros

Nevermore suggests the following format for sightings...

Recently found Alternators Swerve at a Roanoke, VA Toys R Us. It really blends in with all the Windchargers many stores still have in stock, so be wary!

Note: As far as I know, Alternators Decepticharge has not been sighted in retail stores in the USA. This is peculiar, because (as I stated in my review) Swerve is Alternators #15 and Decepticharge is #14. The figure has been released out of sequence. Were I to postulate, I would say that Hasbro might have run into a similar problem with yellow/black plastic being incompatible that they had with the original version of Alternators Tracks.

Just like Hound (#3 for Hasbro) wasn't out there yet when Silverstreak (#4) came out?

Or Dead End (#6) coming out before Tracks (#5)?
Looking for a complete Energon Sky Shadow (from Superion Maximus).
Offering: Binaltech Hound, Swindle, Ravage (Corvette), Skids.
Can buy in stores: Robot Heroes Tigatron/Inferno, Ricochet/Predaking.

The first 12 Alts I bought were from Canada so they must be out there.

Think I should put the flame decal on or leave it off ?

The more I see of Swerve, the more I want him. I hope he's released in this area, along with Decepticharge.

The WalMart here sold all their Aniversary Edition Primes, so the only other Alternator I could find was Side Swipe. It's an alright figure, but I was under the impression that the toy line was at least partially metal, not all plastic. What a disappointment...

It's the Japanese versions - Binaltechs - that use die cast metal parts for all the car parts. They also retail for an equivilant of roughly $50, whereas the Hasbro Alternators - all plastic - retail for only $20.

The Takara versions are using diecast parts. The Hasbro versions do not.

Okay, then how well do the Takara versions hold up? My Sideswipe refuses to stay together in car mode, and I can't even open the doors without it coming apart. It's also damn near impossible to make it stand up straight in robot mode without it falling over. Plus, the engine/gun doesn't fit at all securely in place under the hood in car mode, making it flop around. If the Binaltech figures are more secure and sturdy than the piece of plastic crap that I have, now, then I'll be sure to buy those online, from now on.

One last question: What about Aniversary Edition Prime? Is he all-plastic, as well? Or am I okay with buying him instead of the Takara Masterpiece version?

Both versions use diecast parts.

The only differences:
Hasbro version: Short smokestacks, painted battle damage, later versions came with a black rifle, box can be changed into a cardboard "combat deck".
Takara version: Long smokestacks, battle damage molded but not painted, grey rifle, box can be changed into a cardboard trailer.

I've been able to find wheeljack twice, and both times both times the box had been opened and he was just flopping around inside, the last time he even had a wheel broken off. :(

NAME OF TOY: Sideswipe, Silverstreak, and Hound.

SIGHTED AT STORE: The Bay, Sears, and Zellers

CITY: Edmonton, Alta.

DATE: Nov 15, 2005

COMMENTS (quantity left etc.): depending on store, as little as 1 left to 10 or more warming the shelves.

NAME OF TOY: Dead End

SIGHTED AT STORE: Zellers

CITY: Edmonton, Alta.

DATE: Jul 7,2005

COMMENTS (quantity left etc.): last/only one left when i bought it.

a lot of you seem lucky. as for me, i have yet to see anything above Dead End (alt.06). in fact, all i've seen is Sideswipes, Silverstreaks, and Hounds at the stores i frequent in my home town of Edmonton, Alta., Canada. i was lucky enough to get the ONLY Dead End in my area, let alone the city. it's almost like the whole Edmonton area doesn't get alternators shipped to it at all. all they have is cybertron or energon stuff. i have yet to see a red packaged alternator of any type let alone the new package they're supposed to have.
