Comics, yes
Mostly in album form and English translations.
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (read n+1 times, still great)
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Ranma 1/2
Maison Ikkoku "ducks"
Evangelion
Dragonball (Swedish translation, pages are not mirrored, yay)
These I´ve read recently. Plus about everything I can find from libraries Unfortunately libraries have only mainstream manga. If someone knows nice manga scan pages, I´m all ears.

Yeah I had a look on amazon.com for the Akira books and had volumes 1 and 2 for about $AU 60, which isn't too bad I guess...not including postage and handling to get them from America to Australia. Might think about it when I actually have some money
Would be better if someone has posted pages online (someone who has a LOT of time on their hands! )
