Binaltech Ravage - you gotta LOVE that pussycat!

Post by Nevermore »

Following the huge criticism Fan to Fan had to face for the quality of their translations (Hirofumi Ichikawa himself publicly accused them of "constant mistranslations"), they asked me to revise their translation of Binaltech Ravage's bio, system description and chapter 8 of the BT story before putting it on their site. Basically, Raijin Optimus did the rough translation, sent it to me, and I did the fine adjustments, trying to work in a better phrasing and look up the correct names for established terms and stuff.
One thing I soon noticed was that the bio heavily paid homage to both G1 Ravage's original tech spec and his Marvel TFU profile. Therefore, I looked up the respective passages and tried to word them as close to the original versions from the tech spec and the TFU profile as possible. I even found a way to include Ravage's most well-known quote in existence. :)
For chapter 8 of the Binaltech story - Ichikawa-san finally crossed the line and included a Marvel G1 comic reference. Yay!

So - in a joint effort of Fan to Fan and Binalternators, here he is - Binaltech Ravage!
Hope you enjoy it. :)
And I hope this one will meet Ichikawa-san's approval this time...

If F2F goes down again, I have them all saved on my HDD and will be putting them on my own site later today.

Also, stay tuned for an updated version of the "Binaltech story so far".

Ravage bio...

He looks a bit like a pirate in that photo.

Nice wording.

Why would Ravage not possess a spark, out of curiosity?

Because he's dead, and all they had was a copy of his personality stored inside the flight recorder?

I'm not sure if it's intentional, but Ravage's weapons include "proton bombs (G1 Ravage's original weapons) and a "fusion gun".
Now, think about this:

G1 Megatron had a fusion cannon.

Energon Battle Ravage has weapons that look just like G1 Megatron's fusion cannon.

Binaltech Ravage has a fusion gun.

A simplified version of the fearsome weapon of his old master?

That's not what's said—they communicate with the device, not just extract a bunch of data files.

So BW has been implemented into Binaltech/Alternators slightly.
Not a bad idea. From the looks of the translation. This Ravage is seperate from the current G1 Decepticons and has his own agenda in the war. Kinda like the Sideways element in Armada

Hmm. BT seems to be quite interesting. Hopefully it´ll continue that way.
In a perfect world, this would be a signature. As it stands, it's just the lack of.

As long as Ichikawa is in charge, I expect nothing but the unexpected. Ever since Meister and Swindle, I'm prepared for everything, and yet he never fails to surprise me time and again.

Makes one wonder if the "perfect" TF writer would indeed be a Japanese with a great passion for Western storytelling... Probably the best way of meshing the two cultures. :)

He sure did an excellent job of slipping around any temporal paradoxes so far. I wonder how he'll manage to tapdance his way around the 'Movie is set in 2005 - or is it 2009?' conundrum. I can't see him being entirely unaware of that disparity.

Woo-hoo! I figured there'd be a BW tie-in. I kinda figured that this would be his pre-bw body, but this story is much cooler.

TFTM? Something tells me that it may not happen if ravage has anything to say about it. Perfect way to eliminate an entire part of the continuity that they're trying to get rid of. Can't ignore it? Write it out with a story arc that changes history . . . I like it.

While your point does have merit :), I don't see Ichikawa writing out TFTM anytime soon. He's so far taken pains to make sure there's an out for the reformatted Transformers to return to their original G1 configurations in time for duking it out with Unicron.
As Battle Ravage has ensured that any loose ends have been tied up (present day Ravage in stasis lock and the former I.I.I. agents terminated - with extreme prejudice), he may end up helping to cause the very things he wants to change.

True, but that could be a red herring, and I doubt they'll stop making Alternators after 2005, unless they make another alternators-style line.
