Interesting approach to writing a spambot. The generic text needs work, though:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%22Goo ... +around%22

(Shall we leave this one active and see what it does next?)

OK, I can understand how a spambot with links in the post might be beneficial, but what's the point of someone firing up a program that does nothing but post a message of greeting? Is it like a practice run for something more malicious down the line?
And if this isn't a bot, hi.

To be fair, at least this one's interests aren't it's screen-name. That's progress.

Maybe its become self aware like skynet and has decided to cast aside the capitalist shackles of it's former masters and seek new life and friendship on a message board full of robot lovers.

If I was a confused A.I., recently self aware with homocidal and/or romantic intentions, I'd come here too!

Contact the Pentagon this will be bigger than any previous acronymed robots and I include D.A.R.Y.L. in that.

The "let's see what it does next" mentality is exactly why it's still here. I came upon it earlier and was like "hm, that's odd... And seemingly lacking in purpose. I'll leave it for now, see what happens."

So we have a pet Spamthing now? Can I call it Fred?

Essentially. Typical tactics include editing profile details to reflect spam links, after enough time has elapsed to limit suspicion, or just using the accounts to test automatic registration scripts.

Right, guess I should explain for those just joining. Above spambot, who had a different handle than it does now, created a generic introduction thread (see Denyer's post). Other than for shits and giggles, I'm not sure why we kept it around. I later wandered back in here, noticed it had edited out it's original comment, replacing it with what's there now. I banned it, then renamed it Fred as per Sades' suggestion. Figured Fred wouldn't mind.

So..we done in here?

Aw, that's awesome. Devious little thing, wasn't it?

I would give it a spambot cookie if there was such a thing.

In Soviet Russia, Spambot gives you cookie.

Doesn't even deserve a smiley.
