Just for "sh!ts and giggles", what the hell is the name of this symbol?
And I dont mean"The And Symbol" as the name.

Faith is deciding to allow yourself to believe
something your intellect would otherwise cause
you to reject -- otherwise there's no need for faith.

It's just that through all my wandering in life I've never come across the name for it. It occurred to me earlier, the best way to learn is to ask and so I did. And now I know.

Heh. We were told the same thing in school for that and other things as well where I went to school. Ampersands and calculators! Evil things!
I always got a laugh, though, because invariably there was always someone in the class that was too smart for his or her own britches and asked "If we're not supposed to use them, then how come people use them so much?" LOL It was funny because the teacher was then forced to come up with a logical explanation, although some just dodged the question and said "People use them when they're not supposed to; or 'they use them too much'". It still begs back to the question too, if a word or abbreviation is used so much that it becomes commonplace, then who or when does it become acceptable?
...And how many times were you told by your English teacher not to use the word "ain't"? They say it is not a word, but some friends and I went so far as to get a dictionary from our own school library that contained the word "ain't". Hard for the teacher to argue it then. True it isn't a true contraction (as in "isn't" is a contraction of "is not"--the contraction is the simplification of two existing real words), but who cares? Everyone knows what you mean, or gets the gist of what you mean when you use it, so why not make the word an accepted one into the language. Besides, how many people do you know that uses perfect diction and grammar in their speech?

Maybe if we all signed a petition to have the apostrophe taken out (aint) it then could be considered a "real" word instead of a made-up contraction.
