Quantum of Solace

Snappy...

Shouldn't it be "a quantum"?

There should be an "A" in front of the title. Unless it's a villians name...

When nitpicking grammar, it helps to be able to get "villain's" right. As well as to make sense.

Worth noting that the original Fleming title didn't start with A.

On reflection, it could be "a quantum of solace", "his quantum of solace", "your..." et cetera.

I'd be amazed if there's anything of the story in there except perhaps character names- It's a very dilberate attempt to do something different with the character (Bond goes to a dull party and is told a story about a failed marriage that makes him realise that even outside of spy circles there is often more going on with people than is apparent). If they just wanted a cool title I'm surprised they didn't go for The Property of a Lady. Still, we're only two films way from them having to go back to making up their own titles or remaking the old films (more likely than them ever using any of the Gardner/Benson ones anyway).

It's actually quite a smooth move. All they need do to justify it is have a character say "well, I hope you find some quantum of solace in killing him" or whatever.

Seriously, it's as sensible as Tomorrow Never Dies or The World is Not Enough.

They were never going to be able to make Risico work as a title...

Oh, I'm looking forward to that bit. I'm assuming it will refer to Bond finding solace over Vesper's death. I suppose they could do a Living Daylights and stick the short story into a random five minuets, perhaps change it to be about Vesper and the captured boyfriend (but it will have to change a lot). This is assuming it is a direct sequel as rummored of course (and that report seems to confirm it).

I love TWINE as a title, as well as being pure Fleming it sums up the darker aspects of the film perfectly (with the idea of not being able to find satisfaction). TND is not only bloody awful though, which is what happens when you name your film after a typo (It's supposed to be Tomorrow Never Lies, which despite still being crap at least makes sense in terms of the plot).

Oh, I've no problem with TWINE as a title... it's just got minimal relevance to the story. I always expect it to be the villain's motivation or something... one of those power-crazed mottos... but of course it ends up being James being all noble (and referencing OHMSS).

Then again, very few of the films have titles with much to do with the plot...

Behold, the first trailer!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1klscL-tFGU

Who else is thinking that they just picked this title so they could repeat the "Make 007 from the two o's in the logo" trick from Casino Royale? In which case my money really is on The Property of a Lady as the next one...

Spoilery stuff (for both the trailer and the end of the last film if you haven't seen it):
SPOILER! (select to read)
I'm liking the way it's looking to be a set up for SPECTRE, though if it is them I don't expect Blofeld to appear properly till the third/twentythird/3A film.

Not to sure about the Licence to Kill vibe, hopefully as in the last two films Bond's renegade actions, whilst officially disallowed, will be working to M's agenda even if he doesn't know it at the time. Kinda ironic that with all this talk of being more faithful to Fleming's style that the Brosnan ones the books had him getting over Vesper's death pretty much straight away (the start of Live and Let Dies has him more pissed about the scar the SMERSH assassin gave him).

It'd be nice if Felix isn't so laid back this time as well, he looked to be asleep at a few points in the last one.

you ruined it for me!

but seriously- i am geeked about the new bond movie- i was raised on bond, kung fu movies, and oddly so-bad-they're-good 80s action flicks- so bond can rarely do wrong in my book... and daniel craig is a bad ass bond- brosnan was fairly good- but craig knocks him down and kicks him in the gut imho... but connery is god, so make of it what you will...

Sod the actual proper title song, they should use this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMoJRLStD9c

Bloody brilliant, funny and works as a song. And it's good to know Adam and Joe aren't dead even if they can't get on TV any more (Adam's song isn't as good IMHO, but wins points for rhyming "Quantum" with "Want 'em").

If Movie mags that get forced upon you in cinemas can be believed I'm disappointed they're getting the title in the film by simply calling the terrorist group "Quantum"...
