Interesting. I'll look forward to this. Wonder why Costa's off the book?

But took how long? Should have done that long ago no matter what kind of contract they signed.

Let's not get too excited. It's only two issues.
As a professional tanuki (I'm a Japanese mythological animal, and a good luck charm), I have an alarm clock built into me somewhere. I also look like a stuffed animal. And you thought your life was tough......

Though... on the book, or on for just two issues?

Regardless, makes those issues [22&23 or 23&24?] almost a definite purchase for me, after letting myself slide out of touch with the series after about issue 12....

EDIT: got distracted, wrote this before Heinrad's similarly-concerned post

Holy Schmidt! Maybe hiring John Barber wasn't just a random act of quality. There is a lot that James Roberts can do with two issues.

Maybe try editing comics some time, it might make for a similarly-novel experience.

Getting Roberts on this book is like putting a plaster on someone who's just been decapitated. Junk the shite, and give him the same ludicrous freedom Furman had a few years ago, because he won't abuse it. Until reform's put in place, this comes off as a fan-pleasing exercise.

If it's a standalone two parter then I'll give it a look, otherwise I'm not bothered by jumping into the ongoing story whoever's writing it.

Much the same way I'm feeling, except from the issues I've seen there isn't a story to the ongoing so picking up occasional stray issues isn't really a problem.

There IS a story! It's just very small and scared to come out....

Seriously though, what happens if the reaction is much better from all corners to these two issues? Do IDW just go back to Costa afterwards and pretend nothings happened? (we know they'll do that with continuity aspect anyway :) boom boom!)

If it sells better than the Costa issues chances are he'll be given the old heave ho, if not no matter how good the feedback is what's the point from a business point of view?

That's assuming Roberts would want the job full time of course.

I would dearly love to ANY reason to pick up a Transformers comic again. Although I wasn't a massive fan of Dreamwave's output, there was some semblance of development and drive (and also enjoyment of what they were doing - I've not really felt that from IDW, where its just the latest in a looong line of licensed titles) that IDWs output has seriously lacked. Costa has proven himself an able character writer, great at short sharp character stories (his Spotlight issues have generally been good) but struggles with an ongoing narrative. Along with IDWs poor editiorial decisions and the childish, cheap 'will-this-do?' antics of Titan over here have made Transformers comics a real turn off to me, which makes me sad. Rare gems like LSOTW make me doubly sad that turns like that are the exception, rather than the rule.

I'm not gonna lie; I jimped at that news.
Although, in turns of comics I'm still somewhere in the mid-eighties. Hopefully I'll catch up by the time Roberts' issues are anywhere I can get hold of them.
