Devastation #3 Teasers [Nick Roche Artwork]

Post by Aardvark »

In case you don't know, Roche is filling in for Su (His wife's having a baby -- congrats) on Devastation #3. He posted some teasers on the IDW message board.

You can check 'em out here along with his humorous post.

Wouldn't say any of them constitute as spoilers -- but I will say that they look awesome.

Alternatively -- mirrored images:

Bloody hell, Ratchet's Silumucrum has been eating the pies since we last saw him...

Hate to say it, but that single frame of Ratchet transforming is more dynamic than the rest of *ation to date... I was a bit worried that having a fill-in when we're so used to a uniform look for the series was going to be jarring. I'm now sure it's going to be jarring, but in a "I know this bloke called Geoff I used to work with in the UK, why don't we get him to draw #61?" way.

Yeah, has the potential to backfire a little because people really like Roche. (Although he's now committed to Who comics.)

Still, if it goes the way of the last American Who comic he'll be free again in about two years...

Totally agree with that.

That single page, and with Hot Rod striking that pose, has conveyed more character and action than anything yet to be seen in the -ation series.

Though I have the uncontainable urge to ooo and ahh over Roche's Ratchet, the cruel little hints I've heard about this issue (Furman's blog, various baseless rumors, etc) have teased of something most terrible that might occur.
Big dumb jerk :(

Aww, okay, maybe just this once.

Ooo.
Ahh.
SPOILER! (select to read)
And if it turns out to be true, at least he's going out in Roche-esque style

Nice. I guess I still prefer Su's stuff (though, with only 3 sig-size samples, it's probobly a premature judgement), but it's a refreshing contrast.

The Su image is slightly different from how he normally does the larger full page images. A fair amount of detail in both front and background, but still not too much to appear busy. He utilizes the background space nicely, but still allowing the characters to be the first thing the eye catches.

Hmm. Never noticed that Blitzwing had boosters for feet before.

edit: It's Ruffalo that's doing the art for the 4th issue? Not too shabby, his style fits in nicely with what Su has already established, as does Roche's work.

I love the look of Hardhead's earth form. Can't wait for this to come out.
