How would you classify Spidey as an anti-hero?

Anti-Hero?

At Marvel?

I don't really care for any of Marvel's anti-heroes because they're almost all cliched crap.

If I had to choose I'd say Wolverine because he's the had the best written stories.

Now if we got into this about DC's characters we could get into some really, really great anti-heroes. Aquaman as written by David, Hawkman as written by Johns, Ennis' Constantine and Jesse Custer, Ellis' Spider Jeruselem (Does he count as anti-hero? He's my hero...) I could go on... :eyebrow:

Marvel doesn't really stand a chance against DC's characters, the best writers in the industry do their best work for DC.

What about Garth Ennis' MAX Punisher, or his new Ghost Rider series for Marvel Knights? Any Ennis fan should read these.

You ought to read Hellblazer and Preacher. I know Denyer can vouch for Hitman.

I've never seen his Punisher work get the kind of praise that Preacher or Hitman get...

It's not the most complex narrative compared to Preacher (which I did love, btw :D), but The Punisher has all the good old-fashioned ultraviolence and twisted humour you'd expect from Mister Ennis.

I recommend the first two volumes of his Marvel Knights run and the MAX series (my favourite story arcs are In The Beginning and Up Is Down & Black Is White, and the new six-parter The Slavers is coming along nicely).

The new Ghost Rider series is superbly written and the artwork is just beautiful. It's only been three issues in, but Ennis has seldom let us down before. :)

agreed. when thinking of the definition of a super hero, you go for superman, but for a hero... its spider-man. as he overcomes not only personal problems, but also enemies and lack of recognition, even hatred, by the city to save the day.

Why is everyone ignoring my fabulous play on words?

Oh and on topic Wolverine and possibly Gambit.

Or all of X-Force/X-Statix, coz they're essentially tossers with super powers!

Because whilst funny, there's really no where else to go with that joke... Unless there are dozens of Ant based Marvel hero's of whom I know nothing that is.
