Simon Amstell - Possibly the funniest man on TV.

Post by Jetfire »

Never mind the Buzzcocks has been brilliant whenever I watch it, I might say it has possibly overtaken TopGear a my favorite British TV show.

Simon Amstell should never ever be allowed on primetime just to avoid all risk of him losing his piss taking attitude to comedy. No matter who is on he doesn't hold back and nicely rips into anything. BBC2 should be a mecca to his followers and is perfect for him. He is amazing.

I find him incredibly funny BUT for me a little bit of him goes a long way.

I do like him for the same reason I like Jimmy Carr, his sharp quick witted retorts. Usually I dont find Jimmy Carr funny, but in a live show situation (Ive seen him live 3 times) Jimmy is the king of comebacks.

I think Simon looks pretty stupid with the hair hes got atm, but still, Never Mind The Buzzcocks is v funny.

Its the same for me, its great how he can just non-chelantely ripp people (especially with the Preston from Ordinary boys incident). Even though I find him funnyer than Mark Lamar I actually prefer Lamar as a Buzzcocks host and ideally I'd like to see them host alternatley or co-host (one can dream).

Lets face it. Buzzcocks is basically the Simon Amstell show:

He's OK. Buzzcocks is really missing Bill Bailey at the moment. Simon Amstell and Phill Jupitus aren't funny enough to carry the show on their own. This season is by far the weakest.

I found God. Then I lost him. He'll probably turn up down the back of the sofa someday.

I thought he was great on T4 and really enjoyed his piss-taking of Donny Tourette. I think he's at his best when a guest is able to fight back a bit. Makes him work for it a bit more if you know what I mean. Anything that forces someone away from the pre-scripted banter if fine by me.

I do prefer Amstell to Lamarr on Buzzcocks but I agree that this season has suffered thanks to the guest captains. They need to grab a permanent replacement for Bill Bailey for the next series.

I think Buzzcocks is just as funny, but less varied in its humour. It's certainly pretty much the Simon Amstell show now.

But is that how it will end? I have a feeling it might as I dont picture anyone taking over in the same way he did and if someone does then the show will aleays be remembered for the Amstel years.

You say that but the same was and is said by people about Lamarr, and how he could never be replaced and the show would be a load of crap after he left, the simple fact is, if they find a decent enough host if Amstell decides to leave then after a bit people will just naturally move on.

Some still feel the same way, my girlfriend is not an Amstel person and wants Lamarr back but I think everyone else is settled and used to Amstel.
