Horses not beaten to death yet (WARNING: not to be taken seriously)

Post by Nevermore »

In the past few years, everyone and their mother have already come up with a gazillion of "working concepts" for Hasbro to reissue G1 Megatron (paint the barrel orange, paint the entire toy orange, release him in robot mode and don't mention the gun mode) or Fortress/Brave Maximus (improve the materials, release him as a model kit) in the US.

We had 1.000.000.000.000.000 discussions about whether Rumble and/or Frenzy are red, blue, green, pink or neon orange. Each time, someone believed he found the "ultimate proof" one way or the other.

I don't know how many people already believed to be the "first" to come up with a way to explain the conflicting origins of the Constructicons, incorporate the "Primus" and the "Quintesson" origins into one "combined" origin or even to determine the original identites of Cyclonus and Scourge.

Likewise, I don't know how many people complained about Altertnators Ravage existing, Dead End not being Sunstreaker, Windcharger's barrel missing, Decepticharge's deco and name...

And then there's the people who will never tire to complain about names changed for trademark or other reasons, such as Alternators "Silverstreak", Alternators "Meister", Alternators & Energon "Shockblast" or Energon "Downshift". And of course, they will always boast about naming them "the way they are supposed to be named", and then refer to the toys as "Meister (I refuse to name him that!)".

However, those horses have all been flogged not only to death, but there's not even a corpse left to be beaten anymore.

So I thought it'd be time to cut them some slag and come up with entirely new horses to beat to death. :D

I'm gonna make a start:

Hasbro/Takara should reissue G1 Shockwave, Sky Lynx, Omega Supreme, the Deluxe Autobots and the Deluxe Insecticons!

Yeah, I know they don't own the molds, but they could just remold them slightly like they did with RiD X-Brawn!

Or they could just ask Bandai!

Or they could get the licenses for Shockwave from Radio Shack!

Or they could just come up with new molds that just HAPPEN to look exactly like the original ones!

What's your new horse you'd like to see beaten to death?

My horse? In the alternators line, why so many autobots and next to no decepticons? Also, lately, why do the companies now insist on haveing the title "Autobot" before the character's name (example: Energon's "Autobot Ironhide")?

Loss of trademarks. Often, when they've lost a trademark, they'll use a different name (such as "Rodimus Major", "Shockblast", or "Meister"). In other instances, they'll use a prefix of some sort ("Autobot Jazz", "Autobot Tracks", and "Battle Ravage").

You mean "Energon Ironhide". And that was supposed to indicate the upgrade, like "Energon Starscream" or "Energon Hot Shot".

The non-upgraded versions were just "Ironhide", "Starscream" and "Hot Shot". Had nothing to do with trademarks. ;)

Plus, the "Autobot" prefix has nothing to do with a trademark they "lost"... morseo that a term is deemed too generic to be used as a trademark these days, hence they add a prefix, such as "AUTOBOT Jazz", "BATTLE Ravage" or "CONSTRUCTICON Devastator". You can't trademark "Jazz", or at least you can't expect to be able to easily defend the name in court; but you can trademark "Autobot Jazz" and it's all yours for the next two years.

"Shockwave" they lost to Lanard, hence "Shockblast". Though Lanard have abandoned the trademark since, but too late for Hasbro, and they apparently decided to go with "Shockblast". "Bluestreak" is lost to a company named Gendron ("Toledo 'Blue Streak'" is their trademark - and yes, that can be deemed "confusingly similar"), hence "Silverstreak".
Currently, Hasbro are trying to reclaim "Bumblebee".

No-one, probably. Otherwise they couldn't reclaim it.
