Photos of some of my more unusual Gobots/Machine Robo

Post by Cliffjumper »

Just some quickly taken photos of some of my more usual toys, in case anyone's interested in seeing them...

European Secret Riders

Just got Twister this morning, he's pretty damn cool. they both stand at about the same height as Perceptor in robot mode, and are pretty good, well-made figures. Shame they can be so damn pricey, really :(

Combinators

Kick the Duocons' arses.

Dread Launcher Re-Volt

This is what America got instead... big horrible plasticy thing. It's about the size of a TF G1 combiner... I mean, a launching pad for a bird?

Buggy Winner

http://counter-x.net/gobots/photos/unus ... ymode.html
Got this beastie this morning as well, from the Battle Hackers line. Automatic transformation (as seen on the back of the box - very cheap and cheerful (and fun)

Light & Sound Robo Machines

SOS is a genuinely ace little figure (still the only good-looking transforming Ambulance ever), but the others are rather good fun too.

Machine Robo Rescue Figures

Good goofy fun - I love "Super Fitor" and the way the Police drones look like Cy-Kill :)

Designation... in Japan, they're all non-sentient mecha, so that's the Machine Robo Resue (organisation) Submarine Robo (type). Web Album Generator tends to run words together for file names :)

The yellow chap's great... I was a bit afraid he was going to be a bit big, but he's about the same size as a regular Gobot, and that sort of size simplicity is cute rather than cheap. Diecast on a 1988 figure, too...

Helitranser still seems a nice figure, the other (jet & transposrt) not so good. :o

How difficult to find and/or expensive is that ambulance?

I've seen a lot of bootlegs of those Robo Rescue toys lately, I didn't know they were related to Robo Machines.

The Jet and the Drill are about the only ones where it's anything like obvious - MRR is basically like Car Robots to Transformers, total junking of past concepts with only a couple of names and rough designs held over. Couldn't tell you how good the knock-offs are, though, sorry. That said, if you can stomach spending $15 on shipping, the originals go pretty cheap from Hong Kong/Singapore sellers - I'm pretty sure, not coutning shipping, mine came to about $5 each. A warning, though, is the novelty in each one wears off pretty quickly, though the "middle" figures are pretty good :) Pics of the whole lot can be seen here - http://www.sunrise-inc.co.jp/mrr/products/index.html - I badly want the giant police truck and huge bullet train :)

SOS... isn't common, but isn't expensive when he does come up. Mainland Europe ebay auctions, especially Italy (where Robo Machines actually did alright).

Oh, and I should have put "Tanktranser" instead of "Helitranser" :o
The Jet combinator really is the poorest of the lot - he's just like a Duocon, just slightly better made, and very frusrating to put together. The tank one isn't too bad, just a bit disappointing compared to the helicopter.

I'll need to keep my eyes open for that SOS then. Too bad my experiences buying from Italy aren't very good. :(

Not propably interested enough to buy those MRR figures individually, even though some of those look nice. Especially "MRR Submarine" and "K-Boy", "Fire Team" with some reservation.

I know what you're trying to do posting these, and it won't work. I've got quite enough addictions as it is, not tempted to get some of these at all, thank you very much.

I would kill for that train. The ambulance-or-whatever team looks nice in combined mode.

What's the Secret Rider's special gimmick?

Working winches (well, for Tork and Twister... Tritrak just got a friction motor and got chucked in). Either that, or being big and chunky... ;)

Nice - love the idea of drones for arms and legs, as opposed to entirely different machines.

You've got to love the ambulance/'copter drones - stop-motion chorus line animations ahoy!

I dunno, I've got to say I haven't picked either of the three up for months... When you consider where MR/Gobots was in the 1980s, stuff like the CG Robo/Light and Sound figures or MRR is... a bit disappointing. The toys aren't much more advanced than they were 20 years ago, just bigger and cheaper. The combining aspect especially wears thin, and the "torso" figures lose a lot through the big plugs for connecting the drones.

The Police one's probably the biggest pain of the lot - it's not that clear on the photo, but the wheels on his toes are about half of the area touching the ground... And seeing as you have to have his legs at a slight "V" simply because of the width of the drones, thisd gives him a massive problem with standing up.

New Shinkansen Robo is the bomb, however. Deal went through no problem.
