Fake TF's in the Entertainer UK

Post by tarikq »

Image

Was in the Staines Entertainer store yesterday and I found this sitting next to the classics, its a blatant copy of the RobotMasters OP. As you Can see there are two others shown on the packaging, one being Mirage (Rijie) and the other one I cant rememeber the name of.

The quality of the toy was really poor and instead of having piping to light up the eyes the head was a clear blue plastic!

The best bit is that on the back it says to join the allied forces and fight the Nazi's!

How come The Entertainer can get away with selling this stuff amd has anyone seen any of these elswhere?

I found those figures at The Entertainer in Sutton Coldfield (Birmingham). They do seem a bit dodgy as theres an Opimus Prime rip-off, along with Robotmasters Wrecker hook, G1 Onslaught & Hotspot and some wierd amalgamation of the two.

If I remember right, they 'get away with it' because they're licensing it out from a Hong Kong KO house, which doesnt' adhere to international copyright laws (And, they argue that the minor chages they make remove it from trademark infringement, which ISN'T as strongly protected internationally).

Interesting that, for many, it's the only way they'll see the RM figures. Wonder if they'll do the others...

Hmm. If that's true it might explain the origins of my Devastator KO.

Which after reading the cardbacking was created by someone in China for Dollarama.

Thanks. I just decided, on thinking about it, that the old wording was a little harsh if someone really didn't know that they were making a mistake.
