Behold, DX Raideen - dating from 1975, this is believed to be the first ever transforming robot toy.

He's a bit weird, truth be told :swirly:

Um... What is that supposed to be? A jet? A bird? A robot rolling on it's face?

Looks like a robot on his face to me.
No longer looking for RID Dreadwind, but I still need Smokejumper. I'm also in need of Mammoth Nemesis Prime's tail piece, as my figure lacks it. Send me a PM.

Is that a genuine 1975 one or a later reissue? It looks in good nic if it's the former.

I *think* - and I'm still picking this stuff up - it's the '76 edition; the first one had white thighs. The paint's a bit more tarnished than can be seen in pictures.

Bit ****ing difficult seeing as he's on his back, really - it's not like it's particularly hard to follow, unless you're backwa.... Ahh. I think I see our problem.

Why does it have to look like anything again? "Robots in disguise" is HasTak's schtick; why would a mystical robot from Mu bother looking like anything in particular when it can level mountains?

Hell yes! Expect subsequent review to be full of clumsy references about him being justified and ancient, it being cheaper than burning a million quid and so on...

Very nice..I've always wanted to see one of these in person. How much did you have to pay for it, out of curiosity? Is it total plastic or is there some die cast in there too?

Got mine for about $30 - not really sure how good that is. And he's more diecast with a little bit of plastic - only the folding parts that cover the arms and the horns are plastic. Weighs a ton for something about 5" tall...

KLF? As in the Doctorin' The Tardis people? Took part of their schit from a childrens toyline? The obvious jokes about their associate on their biggest hit would be... to obvious wouldn't it?

I did just read something mildly amusing on the DWF [or whatever its calling itself these days] about their lead bloke doing some project in Derby and specifically requesting 17 Who fans as backing singers for it, only to get annoyed when all they did was ask him about that song...

Now that's an informative page.

I hope you were thinking in a bad Russian accent when typing that. It's tradition. Though I should have said "Their biggest hit under the name "Timelords" shouldn't I?

Was their any tie in media with the toy?

Yup - there was a cartoon that's probably exactly the same as every other Super Robot show, and he was one of three Shogun Warrior toys to actually get into the Shogun Warriors comic.

If that is the true vintage right there, $30 is not too bad for a piece of history. I always enjoy going into antique malls and scavenging through toys because I never know what I'll find. And also, sometimes people don;t know what they have and they just sell it to sell it. But great find Cliffy  And yes, why bother with an alt mode when you can level mountains, tis true.

Yep. That does seem to be the case, but this one's opening is to marching band music!

The animation is very impressive. They could teach some of these newer cartoon series over here in the states:up: a thing or two . I'm going to have to find this series now :)

Awesome - not quite as good as Denjiman sharing a tune with Rawhide, though: -
