Some minor news regarding a UK DVD relase of the Japanese G1 cartoons

Post by Nevermore »

Grifter_Prime, a regular user at IaconHub, contacted Metrodome, the company which currently owns the rights for UK releases of the G1 cartoon. Here's what he says:
they said...Yes we have all three series. I am hoping that subtitling with the original Japanese is an option for a potential DVD (with another disc option for the English audio to be turned on or off) although we are awaiting confirmation from the lab about what audio is on the masters we have.
Looking for a complete Energon Sky Shadow (from Superion Maximus).
Offering: Binaltech Hound, Swindle, Ravage (Corvette), Skids.
Can buy in stores: Robot Heroes Tigatron/Inferno, Ricochet/Predaking.

Sounds like they're prepared to do a proper job with options... :)

I'll most likely import these if/when they're released. There were rumors of Rhino releasing the Japanese series in R1, though I haven't heard anything about that in some time.

The joys of living in a country where a large proportion of Transformers fans aren't a) massively distrustful of something not made in the US of A* and b) Acknowledge Transformers were still made after Rebirth screened.

Best option would be the original language with subtitles, as long as the Star TV dub is included as an extra, those guys unique aproach to the English language deserves to be imortalised on shiny disc. Realistic extras would be a charecter guide (giving the western names as well) and possibly an exclusive comic featuring the Japanese charecters (though I suppose that depends how well the comic with Gen 1 season 2 does).

Typical though, I decide the Jap shows won't ever be released over here and buy bootlegs off ebay, then this gets anounced. Then I declare Stepper won't be reissue 15 with in minuets of it being anounced. Perhaps if I type "Beyounce hasn't moved next door" my luck will hold ;)

That'll be probably what we will get, this'll have a limited sales appeal so I can't see them going crazy with the extras (the above was just idle daydreaming on my part). Then again, I'd never have thought they'd have gone to the effort of new subtitles (assuming they know all the episodes don't already have them) so I'm ready to be suprised.

I'm worried about the comment about checking the audio track though, it'd be a disapointment if they only have the Star dub after all:\

wel even if w eonly get the star tv dub i wouls pick it up anyway if only to get victory and masterforce
as you said it wil have limited appeal only
so why woudl they bother with subbing the whole series if they have a perfectly good (hah ! ) at hand ( perhaps i dont know if they do )

they wil just need to transfer the episodes to dvd and flog em off

and i would stil buy em

hardhead singin karaoke ?
this i must see ( and hear * cringes*)

the problem with the star tv dub is that they sound flat dull and liveless as if they are just reading words on a paper in the same monotonous voice

also it sounds as if there were only a few actors avialble
i dont really care that the G1 voices arent used
i accepted the beast wars voicesa long time ago ( ad they are better then the orginal series ) and gary chalk is as much optimus prime as cullen is

but the voice acting in the star tv dub is justgod awfull

if your wondering i only have head masters
and if you cut your self you wil think you are happy

Hardhead singing was in Headmasters, guess your ears were bleeding to much to notice by that point;) Except for a brief two second cameo by Chromedome in Masterforce the Headmasters charecters are never seen again:(

No idea of the episode (the titles and charecter names are a bit of a blur to me due to Star TV's idiosyncratic aproach to them), but I'm beting Doctor Sprengler will be able to tell ya when he reads this:cool:

Sadly the Star TV people couldn't be arsed to come up with a English language song, so it sounds like they leave the original audio in, denying us what would have been a priceless sight of a star TV dubber trying to sing as well as they act:cool:

Well it would be really good if it happened.

Even if they re-released them with new actors that aren't as *shuddering* as those were.

I'll be happy with the subs if it happens.

I was chating with the bloke doing the filming for Metrodome at Auto Assembly, according to him they are actualy looking at the possiability of doing new dubs, though personaly I would have thought it financialy unviable, unless there was a chance it could be sold on to Rhino (or even a cabel station).

i purchased i think the first 6 of the headmaster series from amazon uk in pounds
i could careless what it costs
it soothes me to see that they didnt just let such a complicated story die
i really dont like the voice overs
but i will survive for the animation and storylines sake
its top knotch and worth reviving and puttin out on dvd in the us
