Egg like transformer?

I was cleaning up some of my crap here at home, and found this toy, dont think its a real transformer, maybe a knock off or gobot wantabe.. Anyway, had it for ages, mid 80s im guessing...

Its a gray egg shape, with some guess you would call it red on top to look like hair. It opens down the middle, book like, and you transfroms into a Mastodon like animal. in both forms it would fit in your middle of your hand ease!

Anyone know what this is or could tell me more about it?

There were knock-offs as well, so those designs probably came out in various colours.
