TF the Movie

Post by Scarrita »

This thread will probably be moved cuz I wasn't sure where to post it, anyway:

Does anyone know if TFTM is ever going to be released in letterbox format.
I have the DVD and was disapointed when it wasn't LBXed.

As my first act as a GD mod, I'm moving this to G1 because it's about the G1 movie.

I'm not sure, but I don't think that there are any new TF:TM DVDs coming out, other than what's already been released.

I think a letterbox print turned up not long before Maverick released the UK version [but it wasn't released]... Erm, I'd say the next release will be letterbox, but as Rhino's release in the USa is still quite recent, maybe not for a while :)

I heard that the letterbox edition does not exist and will never come out. One reason being that the film was made for TV even in the theatres. therefore it does not exist, well never say never:rolleyes:

What does letterbox mean?

Widescreen, morales...

And I think TF:TM was initially made in letterbox, but the majority of the prints delivered to theatres weren't LBX...

Widescreen format, same as the movie theater.

A regular TV has a ratio of 1.33:1
While theater screens have a much larger ratio.

Sorry if this is an over-explanation.

Oh so its called letterbox cuz it kinda looks like a letter box? Wide and rectangular.

actually there is a difference between letter box and wide screen

I'm only mentioning this because I have both a widescreen edition and letterbox edition of Jurasic park. Widescreen has more "black space" at the bottom than letterbox does. In theaters in might be the difference in a lens.

Denyer and Mirage both know a bit about the TF WS/LBX print... Mirage should turn up when it gets dark, and Denyer might pop in when he gets a break from arms-smuggling in Korea... Basically, I gave the argument that it wasn't made in a cinematic format before, and one of them proved me wrong... Apparently, only Mavericks' laziness prevented it from making the UK DVD...

Hopefully Denyer and/or Mirage will clarify what they said to me soon [hint bloody hint; Mirage don't make me drag you out of General for this...]
