Just a couple of thoughts about them

firstly Carnivac do we know what happened to him after the events of Where Wolf ? etc Did he stick with the Autobots?

secondly Chainclaw did we ever see him in the comic with his Shell? and where do we think he got his shell from in the first place giventhat in the Marvel continuity the other 3 pretender beasts got their shells off Skorponok.

informed theories welcome .

Maybe he was a prototype and no more were made ?

Yeh, he turned up in Divide & Conquer.

Cheers I remember he turned up shelless in that alternate timeline story the one with the flag but I couldn't remember if he had a shell or not in the Doubledealer story.

Yup, all that potential in him being part of Earthforce (effectively Dinobot a few years early) and his only subsequent showing is as a jokey one page cameo.
