Discovered some good TFs in china

Post by Addl »

As I do not really collect anymore and do not follow newer toy lines after RiD in 2003, I am only looking for any kind of G1 resurrection (universe generations, masterpiece, exclusives, etc.)

So while shopping for baby wear, I saw 7 interesting tfs:

Reissue comm. series sideswipe 35 eur
Reissue comm. series rodimus prime 44 eur
Alternator rodimus ford gt 30 eur
Reissue piranhacon 30 eur
Tf universe Autobot blaster 75 eur
Masterpiece Optimus prime with trailer 290 eur
Masterpiece nemesis convoy black prime 160 eur

How does this sound to you compared to prices in your country.

I plan on getting nemesis prime and sideswipe.

MP Black Convoy is wayyyy to expensive in that price, regular price is lower than that number in dollars.

Pirannacon and alt. rodimus sound about right, the gestalt is on some sort of sale.

ja, they have about 10 of the Pirannacon sets. Does not seem to sell good here in Shanghai.

Anyway, thanks. Seems like tough prices... not what I expected from China, but then they are originals and imported from Japan. Maybe only the Bootlegs are cheap?

I also remember seeing today:

Protectobot Hot Spot 30 eur
Swerve 20 eur
Powerdive 30 eur
Springer 20 eur

... and found on the net, that they seem to be "Asian Exclusives"

Those prices sound about right or maybe even cheaper for those figures.

Piranacon didn't seem to sell well at off [they probably have leftover BBTS exclusives].

The MP Optimus with trailer is the MP10 version, or the MP4? Either way it's expensive, but I'm just curious. Or is it the hasbro version of MP10? [with a mini spike figure?]

Swerve, Springer, Wheelie, and that bloody daft Cliffjumper are coming to the US as TRU exclusives at the very least (and supposedly have been spotted on the West Coast already). Might end up in the UK or Europe as well at some point. Or you could get one of us US dwellers to send one overseas for less then you could probably import one.

Or he could buy them right there and then for 20 euros each, about 24 USD maybe?

Let's not kid ourselves, those TRU exclusives, along with the FE ones, will cost around 18 USD, and then there's shipping on top of it. ;)

I thought the Euro was worth more then that. Then that's not a bad deal over all. I haven't looked at exchange rates in ages so I'm not surprised I'm a lot off.

Thanks guys, but so far I have not decided on any "generations" figures.

I just was surprised, that these seem asian exclusives, but they have so many here and even in eBay.com you find dozens.
... some exclusive...

Sorry, but I do not know which mp prime they have, as they hat the figures on display in the shelf, no packaging.

The black prime on display was much bigger mold, than the trailer version. Does this help?

Oh?
I hoped they were a neat newer version of the G1 robots...

Is classics better? I was the impression, universe classics and generations are pretty much the same.

They are but the figures have been getting progressively worse since the promising first set of Classics toys. The "Asian exclusives" - largely figures from the live action and Prime lines with unconvincing head sculpts slapped on mixed with a few random recolours - are possibly the nadir. The engineering has got sloppier as has the quality control, with Jazz and Windcharger basically being translucent. A lot of people have drooled over them because they have old trademarks slapped on them but Transformers fans are less discerning than hookers.

I'd recommend the Bumblebee, Mirage and Starscream/Ramjet moulds from Classics, Sunstreaker/Sideswipe from Universe and not a lot else - all have been reused multiple times but the more recent the version is the less chance there is it'll have paint applications, plastic that isn't shit, joints that work and so on.

I'm really liking Wheeljack, Cyclonus, Scourge, etc. and some of the more oddball choices such as Sky Shadow -- and IIRC I paid more than retail prices for most of the Classics/Generations stuff I've picked up. Those lines and Masterpiece are mainly what I collect when I do toys.

Windcharger was noticeably poorer quality IMO.

Having owned Tubby Tracks I can kind-of see how the mould would work for Wheeljack but if he's made from the same white plastic as Jazz - so weak you can spit through it - that'd be a downside. I've generally found the lazy finishing has let down some promising engineering and for the Autobot cars at least having all the alt modes just being vague car-like shapes rather than Porsches, Lancias and Datsuns is a shame (if obviously unavoidable in this day and age).

I'm more leaning towards the Diaclones being the ultimate versions of most G1 characters just for their finishing, their quirkiness and their individuality. But I am majorly psyched about MP Sideswipe - if he's going to be the first of a series round up all the 84/85 Autobots I'm going to be a very poor man. But then I said that about Alt/BT and it didn't take that one long to degenerate into mindlessly name-slapped recolours, Cat-Car and child pornography.

EDIT: Classics Jetfire is monster, to be fair, not least for managing to get both the Macross and Sunbow models on the same damn toy and still be really good.

Wheeljack doesn't have similar plastic to Jazz, thankfully. He's rather gorgeous for a "simple" US release, to be honest. He and Kup are just about the only generations toys that hang out in my shelves, occasionally Perceptor.

Sideswipe\Red Alert could be the beginning of something great in the line, if the heavily hinted Prowl is anything to go by.

Please, for the love of Gort, please let there be a Datsun MP mould. I'd be in for Prowl, Bluestreak & Smokescreen like my life depended on it.

Mmm - one where they get the shape and the colours all right would be fabulous. I love Alt Smokescreen but I'd kill 15-20 people for a straight update of the G1 version.

Cyclonus is great fun, he just looks right in every way.

Jetfire is almost perfect, it's just a shame they obviously blew the money on the helmet and backpack they'd have otherwise used to stop him having a pair of arms hanging off his sides in jet mode.

Heavily hinted, plus the following facts:

1) They already have the license from Nissan in the form of alternity Megatron, with alternity Galvatron coming out the coming months
2) The Datsun can be repainted into three separate characters with extremely few mould differences between them

Eek. Remind me never to buy a second hand (and who knows what other part of your anatomy) MP Smokescreen from you at any and all points in the future.
