AutoAssembly 2011

Yeah - like - so? - I know it's terribly late, but I've just come out of hibernation and found out it's as wet and horrible here as when I went in during February. Want to argue with me? Bear with a sore head and all that? And I got out of bed on the wrong side today.

Expect a whole swathe of stuff to appear forthwith, though you're probably best skipping to the last couple or so posts.

Sue me.

I'll be on the reception desk again this year and I know who you are :D

Auto Assembly 2011 Confirms Latest Guests And More...!

We've had another couple of quiet months publicly for Auto Assembly, but as ever, we've been working frantically to make 2011 our biggest ever convention and we're ready to unveil our latest serious of announcements...

We've got loads of things to announce and update all of you with on Europe's largest Transformers convention including an announcement on two more guests making an appearance this year, an update on a great panel that we'll be organising and another update and surprise about Auto Assembly 2012...

Rather than tell you all here, you can see all of them announced here in our latest new video on our Youtube Channel here:-

http://youtu.be/aKpyV4GHQfY

And that's not all... we're having a bit of a video frenzy on Youtube this week! We've uploaded more footage from last year's convention and for those of you who weren't there, or if you want to see some of Saturday night's programme, you can now see our Cosplay Competition in it's entirety right here:-

http://youtu.be/wvS8XgxlrT4

We're going to be uploading some more exclusive footage shortly including Garry Chalk's concert and the latest of our superb script reading sessions featuring Garry Chalk, Scott McNeil and comic artist Nick Roche!

We're doing a lot more work on the convention at the moment as well and our Committee Head Simon is making inroads into catching up on all the paperwork following all of the personal issues he has had to deal with over the last 8 months and as well as working on some great stuff for Auto Assembly 2011 that we'll be announcing soon, we have some fantastic plans ahead for Auto Assembly 2012 and beyond and you can expect to hear more from us on these shortly...

You will have noticed that our website hasn't been updated for some time and this has been a direct result of Simon's personal circumstances, but the site has just undergone a major content update as well and you'll find all the latest news and updates on the convention there, including our new promo poster / flyer which you can download.

Finally, if you have booked for Auto Assembly 2011 and still waiting for your confirmation emails, we are processing the final batch of these and they should be issued shortly. Please check your spam box as well as your inbox as we are aware that some mail addresses (most notably hotmail and yahoo) do have some problems receiving email from us.

We are also trying to finalise the despatching of the AA2010 Non-Attendee Packages. The delay of these has been frustrating for us this time around and has been out of our control. We are looking to see if we can include extra items for everyone who has placed orders for them, but it is our intention to ship these in the next 3-4 weeks at the latest.

Anyway, for those of you who want to attend Auto Assembly 2011, tickets are available now from our website. Ticket prices are £50 for adults and £38 for children, students and senior citizens, with under 5s admitted free. One day tickets are available for the Saturday or Sunday (although these will NOT get you into the Friday or Saturday evening programmes) and these cost £30 for adults, £21 for children, students or senior citizens and under 5's as always are free. Family tickets will be available shortly.

The convention is taking place over the weekend of 12th - 14th August 2011 at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre, Birmingham, England.

Tickets for Auto Assembly 2012 will go on sale later this year.

For more details on the convention, to see a full list of all the guests and activities taking place over the weekend, or to book your tickets, visit the website at http://www.autoassembly.org.uk

We hope to see you all in August!

*****PRESS RELEASE May 12th 2011*****

Auto Assembly Releases Script Reading Videos Online...!

We've been working hard with our Youtube Channel over the last few weeks preparing lots of new videos for all of you including a lot of major news videos that we will be uploading over the next couple of weeks, but right now we're pleased to announce the first in a series of uploads coming over the next couple of weeks featuring archive footage from the convention itself...

The first of these is online NOW and we are proud to announce the re-release of our first ever script reading from Auto Assembly 2009. Featuring a brand new 25 minute Beast Wars story written by man-of-the-moment Simon Furman, this was a fun script that played strictly for laughs and featured performances by our voice actor guests Gregg Berger and Ian James Corlett and comic artists Nick Roche and Simon Williams, supported by fans who auditioned for the remaining roles.

Previously uploaded to Youtube in three parts, it has now been remastered as a single part video and in High Definition, you can watch this much loved script as only our convention attendees were able to! You can see the full video on our channel here:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqSQoOSc8gw

The script readings have become an Auto Assembly tradition since 2009 and are a part of our Saturday night programme which is exclusive for those who attend the convention for the full weekend. In 2010, our script was again written for us by Simon Furman and featured Garry Chalk, Scott McNeil, Nick Roche and Simon Williams and will be available on Youtube in the next seven days so keep checking the channel to see what you have missed out.

If you are considering attending Auto Assembly 2011, this is a great way to get a teaser for what you can expect from our 2011 script! Again, Simon Furman is at the helm and David Kaye and Gregg Berger are both confirmed to take starring roles. Who else will be performing? You'll have to come along to find out...!

More convention footage will be uploaded shortly including panels from Auto Assembly 2009 and 2010, and Garry Chalk's acoustic concert from Auto Assembly 2010! We also have more massive announcements and news videos coming soon so keep an eye out for our next video shortly including our next guest update...

Tickets for Auto Assembly 2011 are available now from our website. *****UPDATE June 16th 2011*****

David Wise To Attend Auto Assembly 2011!

With just two months to go before Europe's largest Transformers convention, Auto Assembly, you may be lulled into thinking that all of the preparations are coming to a close and that we have made all of our major announcements. Well think again!

We are now proud to announce that we are being joined at the convention by our third guest of honour, none other than G1 script writer David Wise! David was responsible for writing more episodes of the original television series than any other writer and wrote episodes including War Dawn, The Rebirth, Kremzeek, The Girl Who Loved Powerglide and many others. In addition, he has also worked on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek and countless other shows. David will be with us for the whole weekend signing autographs and will take to the stage on Sunday afternoon to answer your questions. He will also be involved in some other events during the weekend which we will be announcing shortly.

For more information on David's appearance, and to hear a message from the man himself, check out our official announcement video on youtube here:-

http://youtu.be/KZWUpiiYUzA

David's appearance has been made possible thanks to an incredibly generous sponsorship package from UK dealer Toyz And Gamez. They have worked with us previously on our 2010 exclusive variant cover of IDW's Transformers Issue 9 (copies of which are still available through their website at http://www.toyzandgamez.co.uk) and we can't thank them enough for making David's Auto Assembly debut possible.

David joins our growing line-up of eleven guests which includes eight comic guests including Simon Furman, Nick Roche and Andrew Wildman and our other guests of honour - Gregg Berger and David Kaye who recorded this special message for us the other day about their appearance at the event:-

The convention is taking place over the weekend of 12th - 14th August 2011 at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre, Birmingham, England and tickets are available from the website now. *****UPDATE July 5th 2011*****

Fan Sales Table Returns To Auto Assembly 2011!

A surprise hit at Auto Assembly 2010, we are proud to announce that we are bringing the Fan Sales Table back to Auto Assembly 2011 but better than ever. If you have any unwanted Transformers that you want to sell but are tired of spending hours listing them on ebay, then this is for you...

Once again, we'll have this sales table set up for all attendees to bring their unwanted toys, comics and other TF and non-TF items to be sold on their behalf all weekend. Just drop them off, name your selling price, and let us do the rest! All we ask for is a small 10% commission which goes towards the convention funds and that's it! There's no minimum or maximum limit to the number of items you can bring to sell and you can collect your money or unsold items at any time during the convention.

Last year we had an incredible range of items - G1, Animated, Cybertron, BinalTech, Beast Wars, and loads more and plenty of DVDs, comics, books, video games... something for everyone. We already have some items confirmed for the table with more being added daily and you can get your items pre-listed now by visiting the Auto Assembly website and downloading the list and information pack.

Ticket sales for the convention are doing great right now and we're on track for this to be another huge success. Over the next two weeks we will be making a lot of announcements about the convention so stay tuned as we enter the final pre-convention rush so get your tickets now if you haven't already before everyone else decides to!

The convention is taking place over the weekend of 12th - 14th August 2011 at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre, Birmingham, England and tickets are available from the website now. For more details on the convention, to see a full list of all the guests and activities taking place over the weekend, or to book your tickets, visit the website at http://www.autoassembly.org.uk

THE BIG ONE!!!

Auto Assembly 2011 is closing fast so we thought it was time to bring you another pre-convention update to let you know all the latest news about the convention and give you all some important updates...

Guest Update

If you haven't already seen online, we've now confirmed all of our guests for the weekend. We think we have one of the best guest line-ups ever at Auto Assembly and we will be joined by:-

Gregg Berger - voice of G1 Grimlock
David Kaye - voice of Beast Wars Megatron (amongst others!)
David Wise - G1 cartoon writer
Simon Furman - legendary comic writer
Andrew Wildman - comic artist
Geoff Senior - comic artist
Nick Roche - comic artist / writer
James Roberts - comic writer
Simon Williams - comic artist
Kris Carter - comic colourist
Liam Shalloo - comic colourist
Jason Cardy - comic colourist
Kat Nicholson - comic colourist

There will be plenty of panels taking place all weekend and all our guests will be on hand to sign autographs and meet all of you. We'll have a full programme on the website shortly and there will be one in your packs on the day.

Fan Sales Tables

Yes, it's back! Have you got any unwanted toys lying around that you want to sell? Then the Fan Sales Table is the place for you! You can sell anything on the table as long as it's legal and connected with Transformers! Just bring them along with details of how much you want for them and we'll sell them on your behalf with just a 10% commission going to the convention. It's quick, easy and with a captive audience, there's no better way of selling your TFs! Full details and a current list of what will be there is on the website.

Volunteering

Some of you have already come forward to volunteer to help out with the convention but we need more! We have a great new way of working with out volunteers this year, splitting everyone into dedicated teams spread all over the convention. If you want to get involved, you'll be assigned to a team helping out with a specific part of the convention. We can't pay you for your work but you'll get early access to the convention, and we're putting together a bag of goodies just for all of our helpers...

You can download the forms on the website NOW!

Competitions

All of the entry forms and details are now online for all of our competitions this year! Whether you want to come along as your favourite Transformer and enter our Cosplay Competition, if you fancy your chances as a budding writer in our fiction competition, or see yourself as a comic creator in our all-new Mosaic Competition, you can find all the information you need on the website.

We'll have prizes on offer for all the categories, with the winners being announced on the Saturday night... and prizes being awarded by our special judges. The Writing Competition is being judged specially for us by David Wise, James Roberts is judging the Mosaic Competition and the Cosplay is being judged by... well you'll have to enter and find out!

Ticket Collection

We mentioned previously that you will all need to collect your passes from the convention itself this year. Well, we are just finalising details for the system for doing this, but pass collection will start on the Friday AFTERNOON before the convention starts! We will be assigning times during the afternoon based on your ticket number (which will be in your booking confirmation email) so you will know when to come along and pick up your passes, goodie bags and attendee packs.

Just bring your confirmation emails with you, hand it over, we'll check you in and hand over your stuff! Don't worry if you can't make it to your designated time though as you will be able to attend ANY later time slot - just not any earlier ones!

Postage Charges

We have had a few emails come to us and seen some comments online about our online booking system and the fact that it is adding a charge for postage and packing at the checkout stage. Even though we are now arranging for all of you to collect your passes at the convention, some of you have now asked what this charge is now being used for.

As the bookings page states, this isn't actually a charge for postage and packing at all. To offer online booking facilities via PayPal, we are subjected to paying fees to PayPal. This equals 5% of the total that we receive so we add this to the total at the end. However, PayPal doesn't have an option to describe this amount as a "surcharge" or anything else, just "postage and packing" so this is how we have to describe it. Any postage costs we pay are always deducted from the ticket price itself but this extra "postage" charge is actually taken from us by Paypal and we don't see a penny of it!

Refunds / Exchanges

A few of you have been in touch with us recently as you are sadly unable to join us for Auto Assembly 2011 for one reason or another and have asked us for a refund on the price of your ticket. As you may all be aware, we operate a "no refunds" policy on tickets for the convention, the same as most events and because of the non-profit making nature of Auto Assembly, we are in the position of having to allocate and use funds almost immediately after they are received.

Saying that, we are now looking at developing a policy for Auto Assembly 2012 which we will announce in due course, but what about those of you who are affected this year? We can offer a limited number of options for those of you who are no longer able to attend for those of you who have booked PRIOR to 30th June 2011 but this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. These are:-

1. You may transfer your pass(es) to another person. To do this, you must send us a copy of your confirmation email along with full details of the name, address, date of birth and email address of the new attendee by no later than 24th July 2011 at no extra cost. After that date, transfers will be subject to a processing fee of £3 per ticket. We must stress that we can not assist attendees in finding someone to replace them - you must do this yourselves. The final deadline for ticket transfers is 6th August 2011.

2. You may transfer your ticket to Auto Assembly 2012. If you chose this option and are subsequently unable to attend next year, no further changes or substitutions will be accepted.

Refunds will not be granted under any circumstance. Day passes can be upgraded to weekend passes for an additional charge and please note that ages may be checked when transferring tickets between individuals or from Auto Assembly 2011 and Auto Assembly 2012 and additional charges may be incurred if an attendee's status changes.

Please note that non-attendance at Auto Assembly 2011 will result in tickets being forfeit. Refunds or transfers will not be issued to attendees who chose not to attend the convention and tickets can not be subsequently transferred to Auto Assembly 2012. Also, passes for Auto Assembly 2011 can not be transferred to a third party at the convention itself.

Bookings

We're edging closer and closer to setting a new European record again... we've just taken delivery of a stock of 10,000 flyers for a major pre-convention marketing campaign to let all the late on-the-door attendees know about the convention and we know that there are still people out there who are undecided so if you know anyone who is thinking about coming along but not made their mind up, now's the time to tell them!

We still haven't announced everything that we're working on... we're saving some of the best bits until last!

See you all next month!

*****UPDATE July 11th 2011*****

Auto Assembly 2011 Booking Deadlines!

Auto Assembly 2011 is just 32 days away and as the excitement grows many of you are making last minute preparations for your trip to Birmingham for the convention...

However, as always, a large number of you still haven't bought tickets for the event yet. As seems to be the trend with Auto Assembly over the last few years, 25%-30% of the tickets sold for the convention are done in the last 4-6 weeks and this year is no exception!

Many people have emailed us asking what the closing date is for bookings this year. As many of you know, we are not sending out passes this year. Instead, we are running a pass pick-up system at the convention itself for all attendees, staggered to ensure that everyone gets their passes and goodie bags quickly and effectively and can get into the convention when it opens properly as fast as possible. All you will need to do is bring a printout of your booking confirmation email with you to the convention - it's that simple!

Because of this, we can accept bookings later than ever this year. We will have our full PC suite and pass production equipment with us at the convention and while we are departing for the hotel a few days before the event, we will still have full internet access so we will able to accept and process bookings right up until the evening of Wednesday 10th August 2011!! Bookings MUST be received by no later than 10:00 pm GMT and be paid for by PayPal using your credit/debit card or PayPal balance. For bookings made this late, we can not accept payments made by echeques.

As soon as we receive your booking, you will receive a confirmation email with your ticket number and you will need to bring this along to the convention with you so you can collect your pass and goodie bag. Details of pass pick up times will be made available online shortly, as will our convention information pack.

This year, we are being joined by no less than 13 guests from the world of Transformers including three guests of honour - David Kaye, Gregg Berger and David Wise, and some of the top British comic talent out there - Simon Furman, Nick Roche, James Roberts, Andrew Wildman, Geoff Senior and many more!

We have all the usual dealers tables, guest talks, free autograph sessions, rare toy displays, a massive video games area, free workshops, a fan sales table where you can sell your unwanted toys and merchandise, and much more, with a few more surprises to be announced soon...

Looking at the bookings we have received so far, we are amazed to see how many new people are joining us this year. Over the last few years, we have seen our attendance rise by about 20% each year, but so far about 40% of the people who have booked for Auto Assembly 2011 are brand new to the convention. While this is fantastic news and is putting us well on course for a new attendance record again, it also means that a lot of you still haven't booked yet!

One thing we've always loved about running Auto Assembly is the atmosphere and the fact that it doesn't feel like an event - it's more like a big gathering of fans who share a common interest and often a place where friends can come together from all over the country. In fact, we're sure that many of you have made friends at the convention if you have attended regularly over the years and will do for many years to come. If you haven't then we're sure that there are plenty of people like you just waiting for other fans to talk to!

Whatever category you fall into, we'd love to see each and every one of you at the convention this year. If you've already booked, maybe you'd want to introduce some of your friends to Auto Assembly and what it has to offer?

With just FOUR WEEKS until Auto Assembly 2011 things are stepping up a gear again! We said we still had some big announcements to make and some surprises up our sleeves for all of you regarding the convention, and here's the first...

We are pleased to announce that Titan Books, publishers of the UK Transformers comic, has come on board as an official sponsor of this year's convention. Titan have very generously supplied us with an astonishing 650 copies of their UK comic for us to give away to attendees this year as part of the goodie bag! I'm looking forward to it as ever. I might get The Vault book signed by everyone this year, I think that'd look kinda cool.

Any objection to me shifting this to news? That's where the other convention threads are and it's probably better suited to multiple press release posts than GD.

Auto Assembly Launches New Fanzine - CT Alpha

We're in the last couple of weeks before Auto Assembly 2011 and currently putting this year's edition of The Cybertronian Times to bed. It's shaping up to be another cracking edition, in a similar vein to last year's sell-out edition and we can't wait to let you see it on the day, although we aren't going to be stopping with that and sitting back and relaxing, oh no! There are times when a year's gap between Auto Assembly and new editions of The Cybertronian Times is a bit too long. With that in mind we are putting together a new ongoing fanzine to help tide you over in those months where AA seems just too far away, so later this year we will be launching CT Alpha, an ongoing companion to The Cybertronian Times...

So why tell us now you ask? The answer is fairly straightforward... Instead of just churning something out, we'd like to offer you the chance to help shape the look and feel of the magazine. So at 11:30 am on Sunday 14th August 2011 we will be holding an open forum for you to come along and do just that at Auto Assembly 2011! We'll be discussing the fanzine, and getting your feedback and some of your ideas and if anyone is interested in contributing then they can let us know. Now we know there is lots already taking place at the convention, and and we have a fairly packed event so if you can't make it and still want to pass on your ideas to us, we'll have contact information available on the day for you.

Now there will be all sorts of questions going through your heads right now, mostly about how often it will come out, how many pages and how much is this going to cost me? We are going to have to be coy about some of these details for the time being and more will be revealed at the discussion itself. However, what we can tell you just now, aside from a promise that each issue will have more than 16 pages in it is that the first issue of CT Alpha will be released on 19th September 2011 and will be absolutely free. That's right - FREE!

We are looking forward to seeing you there at the discussion forum at Auto Assembly 2011, and sharing some great ideas with you.

Auto Assembly 2011 is taking place over the weekend of 12th - 14th August 2011 at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre, Birmingham, England and tickets are available from the website now. Auto Assembly 2011 Bookings Close In 3 Weeks

If you haven't already pre-registered, it's time to hurry up! Pre-registration for Auto Assembly 2011 closes in just THREE WEEKS at 10:00 pm GMT on Wednesday 10th August 2011!

The convention is fast approaching and if you want to get a personalised name badge and have some of the better, more limited free gifts in your goodie bag, as well as earlier admission to the convention, then you need to book your tickets online as soon as possible. We will have tickets available on the day for one day and full weekend passes, but as you will need to complete registration forms when you arrive, these will take longer for you to get into the convention.
