They could've put chrome to good use on Octane by chroming the entire tank-melee-blade-thing, but no, they chromed his guns. Boo.

The guns are fine, everyone has chromed guns nowadays. But you're right on the Melee Blade, goddamn, what was that for, so it would stick out like a sore thumb? Or were they trying to make a bumper on the truck?!

Somehow I have this feeling they had a great idea for Octane, then when they put it all together there was a massive empty spot on the underside of the plane. When the "oh crap" occurred to them, they decided to cover it in plastic. And to cover that debacle, someone came up with the great idea "Hey! Let's make it into a melee blade! Fans will love that!" Then Takara just coats it in chrome to make it even worse.

See, now the way I see it, chroming the melee blade would have made sense on the truck mode, as the weapon becomes the fuel tank, and that might have made it look more... I don't know... 'realisitic' probably isn't the right word, but you get my drift. As for on the tanker plane mode, well... meh...
As a melle weapon, it might have been of more use if they'ed designed it so the claw-ish bits could fold out...
Mreh. *Shrugs* My fig is already on the way from Hasbro, so at this point I couldn't really give a rat's how shiney the Henkei one is. :p

Japanese magazine scans with comparisons of Henkei Prowl and Sunstreaker with their Hasbro counterparts:

http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=1799

I can't exactly make out Sunstreaker's license plate, but it seems to say "82" (presumably a Diaclone reference).

EDIT: Nevermind that, the "Hasbro" version shown is an old prototype, as seen on the back of the toy's packaging.

Henkei Lambor and "Destron Octone" in packaging.

"Lambor" is Takara's traditional name for Sideswipe.

"Octone" was Octane's Japanese name in 1986. "Destron Octone" is the Tkara counterpart to the likes of "Autobot Jazz" or "Decepticon Brawl".

This makes the third Takara toy to sport a faction/sub-group prefix, following "Cybertron Perceptor" (Transformers Collection) and "Stuntron Wildrider" (the recent Henkei/Gentei exclusive).

Funny, and coincidental, that Octane's package actually covers up the weakest point of his plane mode. (It's not intentional, since it's the same type of cover that Sideswipe has.)

Except that the character art changed to Octane. ;) Maybe they blew it up just to cover that part of his plane.

First look at Lambor, Streak and Destron Octone.

Apparently Takara really dropped Sunstreaker's engine/jetpack because it's not Geewun accurate enough.

I repeat: TAKARA DROPPED AN ACCESSORY FROM A TOY BECAUSE IT'S NOT G1 ENOUGH.

In those pictures you can see the backpack on sunstreaker, the wings that were plastic , have been chromed. and are folded inward, instead of outward like they should be.

I might pick up a Lambor, actually, just to make him that bit more different to my Hasbro Sunstreaker. That said, I may just pass altogether; Universe is a little too pricey in the UK for me to really justify buying a toy I already have in a different primary colour and with some bits turned backwards. I'd rather spend my hard-earned on a figure I don't already basically have...

I applaud Hasbro for making a minor retool different than just the head by designing the toy with two different possible transformations, though.

I've always thought they should do that more. With the Energon combiners, have one tank-guy wear his treads out like wings, one flipped back. Same with the A-10s. I realize it would mean writing up new instructions for at least a few frames, but it would certainly be a nice touch.
