Is this the sequel to Headmasters? Or is there one in between?

Its not a sequel as such, just the second of three full series created in japan between 87 - 89 masterforce is the best of them. Each series stands alone from each other with only peripheral links to each other

I'm pleased they've gone for just calling the three Japanese series the Japanese series. The UK?Aus release "Takara Collection" always sounded a bit odd, like calling the US series Transformers: Hasbro.

The Masterforce dvd set has been out in Australia for years, why is it taking so long for it to come out in the US?

Yeah, the only memorable scene I can recall from Masterforce was Turtler (Snaptrap) calling the other Seacons with some crazy "ai yi yi" war whoop. lol.

If Shout! Factory is using the same source material as the Australian DVDs then it might be worth skipping. I imported the Madman Australia release a few years back and the video quality is barely VHS quality. When you play it on an HDTV it looks like utter garbage.

EDIT:

And if I am not mistaking, Shout! Factory has included the Headmasters title on the Masterforce cover. I guess since the text is Japanese, most won't notice?

I just noticed that myself. Maybe they will have noticed that error before release and correct it. Even if they don't, it won't deter me from getting it.
