To compete with Marvel’s Transformers comic book series that is. I wonder if DC would’ve followed Marvel to the British Isles & used Go-BOTS to launch a DC UK There was that Go-BOTS cartoon also (“Challenge of the Go-Bots”). Remember that? Rene Auberjonois (ST DS9’s Odo & M*A*S*H’s Original Father Mulcahy) spoke for/acted as the cartoon’s Dr. Braxis. Would Go-Bots comic books have given Go-Bots more of a niche in the marketplace & helped it last longer?
Were the Go-Bots of G2 Transformers the same thing as the 1980’s Go-Bots, just having been assimilated into TF by Hasbro/Takara in 1993? Or are G2 TF Go-Bots something entirely different? The 1980’s Go-Bots toys were groovy & not half bad. I remember I had one which turned into a yellow bulldozer. The name now escapes me. Also, didn’t Go-Bots have more female robots than G1 TF?
Remember Puzzler? Puzzler was Go-Bots gestalt, their own version of the Voltron idea. TF applied the Voltron idea multiple times (Devastators, Superions, Bruticuses, Defensor, Piranhacon, etc, etc) . I might be wrong, but I think both TF & GB just copied the gestalt thing from Voltron, resulting in Voltroniformers (the aforementioned TF gestalts as examples) & the Voltronigobot Puzzler. Then of course there were the Rock Lords. What exactly were the Rock Lords anyways
Your take on this here topic now folks>

Have you read the existing Challenge of the Gobots UK annuals?
Combining robots are older than Voltron:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecha
(Leaving aside that Lion Voltron doesn't transform, just combines. It's in the same style as Getter Robo and Dia-X.)
http://tfu.info/subgroup/gobots.htm
However, since Gobots were acquired, they've been written into fanservice bios for a Minibots recolour set:
http://tfu.info/2004/Destron/BugBite/bugbite.htm
http://tfu.info/2004/Cybertron/Pathfind ... finder.htm
http://tfu.info/2004/Cybertron/RoadRang ... ranger.htm
http://tfu.info/2004/Cybertron/SmallFoot/smallfoot.htm
http://tfu.info/2004/Destron/BadBoy/badboy.htm
http://tfu.info/2004/Destron/Treads/treads.htm
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys ... d8838cc1ba
The bios were officially written, but not used on the set IIRC.
And to answer the original question, had DC created a Gobots comic, it would probably have done as well as the MOTU one. (i.e. Lapped by Star.)
