Obsidian's Lament - a post Beast Machines story

Post by andersonh1 »

I thought I'd expand my posting horizons a bit and post this story here as well as other boards. I've wanted to see a follow-up to Beast Machines for some time, and finally decided to sit down and write one. After reading Pun-3X's comic I was inspired to produce the story in photocomic form, and so I did.

At the time I started, I had very few Beast Machines Maximals. I acquired some more over time and added them to the story, but you'll see beastformers from Beast Wars, Armada and Cybertron over the course of the story. I needed post-reformatting Maximals and Predacons, so it was necessary to pad out the cast with non-BMac figures. I think it's worked well.

As per the request in the posting submissions thread at the top, it's okay to add this to the site if you want.

For those of you who've read it before, this is the revised version. Not much has changed other than the format, but some dialogue has been tweaked to make the story flow better.

Cool seeing some of your stuff posted here. :) This is definitely one of the best stories told in this kind of format (use of toys).

Fantastic job. Now I have two stories to follow up on here in the creative section; Pun-3X's story, and now this one. I really like the look that you are shooting for here. It has a nice abstract feel to it. The shift in perspectives wonderful too, with Obsidian playing as a protagonist of sorts. Looking forward to the next installment.

Wow! This stuff is great! I love the look, absolutely perfect - and very unsettling! Excellent characterisation (and choises!).

(Oh, and you won't know me - I spend far too much of my sparse free time reviewing toys here... lol!)

Well looking forward to the future installments!

Thanks. It took me some time to re-make the layouts, but I wanted an 8.5 x 11 sized book format. I'll get around to doing a cover eventually. :)

What I also love about this story arc is how cool it makes Obsidian come across. You really developed his character beyond the show, mostly by allowing us into his own head during the story.

It was enjoyable to try and develop Obsidian's character from what we saw onscreen. He and Strika only get five or six episodes (can't remember off the top of my head) and while there are some good character moments, they are few and far between. They seem to enjoy their job, and enjoy mocking their opponents, and also seem to lack personal ambition. They are interesting antagonists, which is one of the reasons that I made them the main characters.
